View Full Version : Removal of Drive Belt Tensioner on 98 Honda Accord V-6

I want to replace the idler pulley on the tensioner, but after removing the two bolts which appear to attach it to the engine, the bracket doesn't want to come loose. Maybe someone has removed/replaced one and has some idea what might be holding it. BTW, on the 98 models there is not enough room to remove the idler pulley bolt because of the frame. Therefore, it appears that the tensioner bracket must be removed to replace the pulley. Anyone have a suggestion as to how the bracket comes off on this model vehicle. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. There is a third bolt in the center of the tensioner bracket(1/4 inch) which when viewed with debris over it appears to be a steel pin in lieu of a bolt. The diagram shows the bolt. My Hayes manual doesn't. In any event, the job is complete. Thanks again.
