WOW! I can't believe the DA would even bring charges on so little to go on!! When our daughter was raped, (followed home, held hostage for 3 hours) even with the name, work place & car & sheets the police wouldn't touch it. Her bruises, scratches, & rape kit weren't enough. :dunno: He could say it was with consent. She was 17 & had just moved into her first apartment.

We had it taken care of.:naughty:

This poor guy ONLY has her word to convict him & she was very drunk.

Santa Barbara sure has it's issues, but this is a surprise.

On the other hand, there's no way anyone can tell just by "how nice" someone is whether or not he's a rapist! Kinda like the "stranger" we tell our kids about. The usually don't have that "monster" look. Rapist are usually just like the rest of us.... except they have a problem with power & HAVE to have it over a woman. It's not even about sex. Just power. That's why they include raping 80 year old & 8 year olds.

The one thing the courts DO get a few good points is that they didn't seem to put the girl on trial. Her life shouldn't have a thing to do with it. If the evidence pointed to the ex, they really should've looked at him more.

I hope he gets a new trial!

I'm very sorry that happened to your daughter, but I would be very reluctant to post something like that on a public forum. Just looking out for you.

We stayed within the limits of the law. I wish we could've at least made him pay for the years of seeing a shrink she's gone through!! She's open about this ordeal. Now.

She'd just been out to coffee with friends. He followed her for 20 miles to see where she lived! Her apt. wasn't in a bad area. I think that's one reason it's been difficult for her to be out on her own though. She's lived with us more as an adult than we expected. Following us all the way to TX!

As tempting as it was, he wasn't shot, lynched or raped. All of which my first choices. Last I knew he was alive & well.

As a parent, this is a hard thing to deal with. You want to fix it. I think the girl in this case believes what she's saying. She likely can't imagine the guy she knows would treat her so badly. But the DA should've gone on the evidence, not emotion. They could've told her simply that the evidence doesn't support her claim. It happens.

How on earth did they manage to convict on such flimsy evidence, and with a BAL of 0.2-0.29 no way should her word be admissable?! They let scum go free (sorry to hear about your daughter princess)...

I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter Princess. I don't know what you did to him, but I probably would have done the same. I am a future police officer, and while I know that crime will always be around, no matter what, I hope that I can stop things like this from happening to someone elses daughter, or mother, or sister.

I hate to say it, but from living in my hometown, ive grown insensitive to cases of murder, rape, and other emotional jerking stories only to listen and contemplate on the logical ins and outs of a situation. It just GRINDS MY NERVES to death because all it leaves me in an infinite looping question... "For what reason would they try to put someone in jail if there is no logical reasoning in favor of the prosecutor?" (other than brownie points) So why are they intentionally putting someone in jail?

There's a huge loop in logistics dealing with the law system in that city unless you come out with blunt, obvious statements. Ironically, these statements will be deemed "alleged opinion" when stated of a person's character compared to "opinionated facts" of the person's character (positive or negative)

Its a negated truth...but some Americans do have to watch their own ass twice as much...
