01coupe

I'm relatively new to the Honda family. Previously, I've always owned american V8's (mostly Camaro's and Trans Am's) but decided last May to get something more reliable and fuel efficient. So I scooped up a 2001 Accord EX (2.3L 5 speed) 2 door coupe. Anyways, to my point...
The car has decent acceleration, but coming from always driving automatic V8's sometimes I find myself wanting a little extra power. I'm not expecting V8 power whatsoever, just maybe a little extra pull when I start banging gears. I would always go the air intake and catback exhaust route in the past, but will it be very noticeable on an inline four? Hate the high-pitch rice sound, as well..
Any other suggestions? Not looking to buy an H22 (YET), just some cheap upgrades. Thanks in advance!
