Wired them to the corner ambers...and I used those flexiable LED strips from an internet source

The black spray paint matches the housing pretty well in my opinion. People didn't even notice that I painted the inner housing.
The LEDs that I used are those flexiable LED Strips...the source where i got them from are on the link above. Just measure the amount you wish to have!

I didn't angel inwards...I angled it up along to where the corner ambers are! Just to give it a little bit of character. If you look at the actual/original black housing, I just followed the edge if it. I thought about having it to the edge where it's straight, but thought it was to plain looking if it were straight!

looks pretty nice...though if I were you'd i'd have tried to find LED strips that have more space in between each LED...the space gives it more character imho gj though

True.....cuz those AUDI's are pretty well spaced out! But it wasn't put into consideration i guess.....maybe for my next headlight project! hahaha!

Maybe if you remove every other bulb you can get them more spaced out. It does look like the inner part isn't at the front edge of the headlight housing.

I agree with you and that was my first impression of the pix. Still a good job, but I would have tried to get them more flush with the headlight housing.

It's pretty difficult and requires some precision though I think to make sure the headlight housing is resealed completely.

Yeah very jealous. Those would look nice as replacement for DRLs. Can our cars even be wired so that the DRLs don't light up while car is on but still function as high-beams?

This was originally my first thought, but after placing it there and turning the LEDs on, I didn't like the look very much in my opinion. Looked tacky! Because the LEDS would reflect off the lense and create wavey lines up the lense. I even got two other opinions and they all told me to do it the way I have now. But thanks for the input though!

I forgot to mention that I disabled the DRL so it won't clast with the LEDs. (I asked Mattchatwin) Just look under the fuse box located under the driverside and pull the fuse that says DRL. The high beams still work though:thmsup:

No sanding needed, just coat it with primer and use the krylon paints made for plastics

LED's doesn't like high temperature though. Some of the new Audi's I've seen on the road already have bad LEDs.

During the day, they look kind of like a cheap add-on. The 3rd brake light looks OK, but I would like it more if it spanned the whole top of your window-like a Bentley GT. It reminds me a bit too much of the strings of red LEDs you see on pickups.

Surprisingly I like the Amber Corners....or else I would of tint or take them out. As for the inside amber...I just cut the wire so that it would not light up with the rest of the headlight and have it just blink for turning. Cuz it'll look too tacky to have two amber out lights and white LED in the middle!

No worries dude....everyone has their opinions! The high mount LED for the brake lights I couldn't get the LED strip to go from end to end, it just wasn't available....it was either i go shorter or go WAY longer!

Doubt theres is glare with the painted housing, plus thats obviously a camera phone, he needs an slr to show what they really look like

Yeeeah...I don't have a proper camera to reduce that glare....the best that I can do is take day shots with what i have on different angles....

The grille is another really cheap mod- actually the stock grille with the addition of some chrome wheel well trim from PepBoys. I believe it was Morcheez who did it first (at least for the coupe). If you search "autozone grille" you should find various styles of it done on these forums. Here is the product I used-cut into strips to fit-already comes backed with really strong 3m tape. Comes rolled up like shown below, in a flat box for about 15 bucks IIRC.

- So I bought and "LED Flexiable Strips" in RED of course that is about 28 inch for $28.99.

- Shipping was about $5 USD.

- Comes with 3M tape where you can mount by sticking in on a clean surface!

- Considering its 28 inches long, you're going to have to center it by measuring it out

Well so far so good. I'm not running them all the time tho....only when I want, then I will turn them on. So hopefully the will increase the life span! lol

Well once I apply the brakes they do come on a tad bit quicker than the rest of the brake lights. But it's not a huge deal. Just as long as they all work!

I'm thinking of a way to incorporate the strip on the outside of the window, adhered to the rear-facing plane or under (kind of hidden in the shadow of) a roof spoiler. Various websites show weatherproof strips available.

1) Definitely brighter at night, basically lights up the speaker panels and rear seats! I took black vinyl, and tired to enclosed that LED as much as I can. So it helped a bit!

2) I would know how bright it would be through 20% tint? Still probably be noticable for sure. Think of how your actual vision is like at night when you drive. Obviously reduced a bit, but you can still see!!

i've been looking through oznium... looking for an LED strip of some sort that is water proof and very low profile (hard to see the strip)

I want to figure out a way to mount it on the OUTSIDE of my car... on the rearward facing side of my roof spoiler...

What do you guys think??

I dont want it to be huge/gaudy. I'm thinking about ripping the spoiler off the glass and trying to see how I could some how mount some RED LED's in it to make that my 3rd brake light...

I could probably easily run the wire for it down the glass channel the way I ran the XM antenna in my old TSX.

I tried doing it inside the car but Ijust dont like how it lights up the whole back deck.

More importantly i dont like how it looks with the dott matrix.

If I do it lower like on top of the OEM 3rd brake light then i can't get it even/straight... and it still lights up the interior of the car too much.

I'm trying to think about what other options there are interms of trim or something that i can use to block the light from spilling into the interior....

I really like the idea of doing something OUTSIDE on the roof spoiler... but gotta find something waterproof. and not too long. 24 inches max--- whole window is about 40.1"

Im not a big fan of most of the LED projects but this one looks very clean. Great work!

starbai: I saw your thread about the 3rd brake light mounted on the outside on your upper rear spoiler. It looks sick! I would definitely do the same, but I do'nt have the same rear spoiler as you! Because I agree...i am getting annoyed on how my whole rear interior lights up at night. Especially when i drive ppl and see there heads light up! So i'm trying to figure out another alternative!
