Hey guys,

I have a 2009 accord 4 cylinder, and i want to install double exhaust, I couldn't afford the v6 model!

1) Do you think this will cause any "back Pressure" thus slowing the car down even more?

2) There is already a cut out for the second exhaust on the drivers side, which is now obviously covered by a piece of plastic the come off easy to install a second muffler and tip! so it looks as if its all set up, should i do it?

3) People say that the V6 dual exhaust is not a "true dual exhaust" thus if you block on exhaust the car will still be performing the same, so then im thinking it wouldn't be a problem for the V4

thanks

1) yes, though one person has said they found a way so it doesn't
2) if you want.

People have done both. Someone on this forum even put a fake exhaust pipe to give the impression of a double exhaust.

I did a dual exhaust... 2 magnaflow mufflers on my I4... at first I did notice some back pressure... but I believe the engine adjusts itself (I've been told this by a few people)... I've driven another manual I4 with stock muffler and it's about the same... but mine looks/sounds 100x's better I think...

I will be posting pics/sound clips soon...

So anyone have any ideas what kind of exhaust will sound SICK (sick in the cool way :P) on the I4? Not ricer and neither make it sound like an old fart can when you hit 3000 rmps.

What company should i go with?

Either of you guys looking for a dual exhaust in the DC Metro area? I've got my stock one taking up space in my garage. We could work something out for local sale/pick up. I just haven't had time to put it up in the classifieds. I'll try to do so this weekend, thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

For you I4 guys, take a look at the picture below. This is the OEM V6 exhaust system. (I removed a bunch of the cat-forward stuff since it is irrelevant to this conversation).

IMAGE 1

Similarly, here is the I4 exhaust system (minus the irrelevant cat-forward stuff).

IMAGE 2
23286

Now, I'm not sure exactly what you hope to accomplish by adding the second muffler. If it's just cosmetics, then you could probably get away with just buying part #13 (the L muffler - in grey) and all the little attaching pieces. You would be able to connect that to your underbody and for all intents and purposes, it would look like a dual exhaust, but the left muffler would not be functional. Obviously you wouldn't be able to connect it to your stock exhaust because you lack that Y-pipe, part of which is in grey as well.

IMAGE 3
23287

If you were really serious about this but didn't want to swap the whole down-pipe with premuffler (#14 in IMAGE 1), you may be able to cut and weld from this point back, although it would require you to buy the whole down-pipe assembly to cut from anyway, so I don't recommend it.

IMAGE 4
23288

The only way I see achieving a true, functioning dual exhaust is to swap out the whole system from the cat-conv back to the mufflers (IMAGE 1, part 22 all the way back). I'm willing to part with my OEM set-up, but an I4 would need to buy parts 8 and 9 because I'm still using mine for the magnaflow. You would probably also need to buy parts 20 and 23.

The hanger mounts for left (driver) side muffler need to be welded onto frame. Honda does not do this for all trims, only V6 and there not bolt on type.

Exactly its just for cosmetics of the car. The only problem is if you only bolt on #13, in the winter guess what? Only 1 pipe will be smoking out cause the other is not functional. Now i guess u can install it with the y pipe so this way the smoke and fumes come out both pipes ... right?

Great post btw

a stock v6 exhaust will not bolt up to the i4 ...and i found all the muffler shops wanted wayyyy to much money to simply hang a muffler ...so i did it myself with the help of a freind for around 20 bucks

Guys, im just looking to do a cosmetic add up. i dun need the mufflers to work. so i understand that u guys said, just get part# 13, that cost approx $135 as mentioned above.

do u guys have any idea for the labor charge to install the mufflers??

also, in i4 back bumpers, the area whr the right muffler is placed, there is a little curve in the bumper following the muffler insert. if u get wht i mean. but there is no curve on the left side of the bumper. can body shop do that too? how much will those cost?

i need to make an est budget for installing those cosmetic. i.e left exhaust price i already know. i just need the approx labor charges which is to install the non working muffler and to make the curve on the left side of the bumper. information would be usefull .thanks guys.

Look very well, because for the 09 accord there is a little curve cut out all u have to do is remove the peice and you have a hole to stick in ur muffler nad tip!

The coupe has the same rear bumper on the I4 and V6 with just the little cover plate blocking the left side exhaust cutout. The sedan I4 and V6 bumpers are different and the I4 bumper doesn't have the cutout.

The OEM v6 exhaust mates to the I4 just as it is indicated here. I did it without any problems. I bought the left shield the rubber mounts and the muffler shop mounted the v6 system by welding just in front of the v6 resonator without issues.

Jeebus there are a million threads on this.

The ONLY way to go for the i4 is custom. Go to a shop and have them fabricate u a Y-Pipe . You just order the muffler (magnaflow, etc.) and 1-2 resonators and the shop will do the rest.

I'm selling mine since I got my Magnaflow Cat-Back installed. I'll include everything behind the cats. All pipes including y-pipe, both mufflers, and both exhaust tips. I removed the resonator and mid-muffler and replaced them with straight pipes but I still have the stock ones if needed(IMO I think it sounds better without them, gives a nice growl). Basically it's the full stock cat-back exhaust system for the V6 coupe. I'm trying to sell it for $250. PM me if interested.

And you had absolutely no issues with engine performance, back pressure...etc? how long have you had it on the car?

It has been five weeks now. I have filled up several times now and the fuel economy is still consistent at 28 mpg. I am an easy driver so I find the acceleration remains the same. No engine lights or poor performance. Why should this be any different than an aftermarket loud muffler with a four-inch tip?

Anyone who has done a muffler upgrade want to sell me their old muffler and tip. I need it just for cosmetic appeal.

Welcom to DA, suggest you post a WTB in the Classified Section as it might result in better response.
