Does anyone know how to install the Honda aluminum shift knob on a 7th gen? I don't know how to make the shift boot flush with knob.

Thanks in advance!! :)

I just did this mod to my coupe.

I'm assuming you already removed the white plastic connector from the shift boot and installed the "ring and sleeve" attachment to the boot.

I noticed that the sleeve would slide down the shaft too far and leave a gap between the sleeve and the nut on the bottom of the shift knob. I got around this by wrapping a layer of self-adhesive velcro (the fuzzy side) around the thin part of the shift lever (about an inch should do it), so that the sleeve doesn't slide down the shaft as far. Now the sleeve is flush with the locking nut at the bottom of the knob.

BTW, I really like this shift knob, its extra weight makes the shifts a little more positive, IMO. it does get a little warm if it's left in the sun though! :)

Yep, we're in the delta region here!

ABOUT halfway between SF & Sac. It used to be farmland.....till the houses came..... :)

We're a suburb of the Bay Area suburbs.... a sub-suburb! :lmao:

Is there another way to cover up the plastic piece? I found that the knob doesn't fit nicely compared to the OEM knob. I'll post pictures

That's the very reason I haven't switched over to that shift knob.......the gap between the boot & the bottom of the knob.

Is that a Honda knob or aftermarket?

A $15 knob from Ebay. It came in Civic Type-R packaging. Haha.

Any other aluminum knobs that fit nicely with that plastic piece?

I don't think you'll be able to find an aftermarket knob to fit with that plastic piece.... you could clip the two tabs off and put tape or velcro (as Ben had suggested earlier) around the shifter to keep the boot up. Another, more permanent alternative is to cut the whole plastic part off, flip it down over the shifter and zip-tie to the shifter (removal of the plastic trim around the boot is necessary to do this).

Would the Honda aluminum knob have the same crappola or is it designed to accept the plastic piece----anyone know for sure?

Would a 6-speed knob off of a Accord V6, RSX Type-S or TSX fit?

It probably would but it would be the wrong shift pattern?

That's fine, you can ignore what the pattern says on the knob.

Momo makes the best shift knobs. Just make sure you buy the right thread size.
