This actually occurred months ago but it has taken some time to irk me to this point. When I took my car in for the ubiquitous warped front rotor problem I asked for the tires to be rotated.

Mind you that all four tires were on the ground, the rotation only required them to be moved a few feet (since they were already removed & on the ground.)

I was charged $28 + tax to move the tires a few feet and mount them in a different order. I WAS PISSED!

I realize that the guys (& the dealership) needs to make money but this was BS. It involved 30 seconds of effort!

At the local Discount Tire store, tire rotation is free and balance & rotate is $19.95. Guess where I'll go next time?!

Usually if the tires are off for any reason, there's not a charge. Unless it's a flatrate shop it wouldn't help the person working on it see a dime more. Did you question them at the time?

And those dealers are probably the same ones who will tell you they want all "5's" or an excellent report when Honda surveys customers.

The nerve!!

Yep! I wonder if anyone actually gets "5" for service? Well, I do....but I kinda like my tech! :D I have complained about the appointments though. I had one scheduled that they cancelled last minute. They DID call, but it was still disappointing & some people have to arrange work around those things so I was kinda hostile!

And you guys wonder why I never go to the dealer.Local dealer asked me, "Did you buy it here?" I said, "Does it matter? It's a HONDA!" I hate that attitude. Should not matter where I buy it, the level of personal service should be the same.

But I am with you, I won't go to the dealer for anything except warranty work. Oil changes, rotations, brakes, that is all mine to do.

Our dealer is also very good. Crown Honda in Greensboro, NC.

It's the only gripe I've had with the dealer so I guess it's small potatoes compared to others that have gotten the runaround for real problems.

I change my own oil so they won't get that money.

...you pays your money; you takes your chances.......

..at 7500, I plan to use the dealer near UCD (oil/filter $27.95:carwash upon request)............unless I hear better within these threads.....

...I am still thrilled by the "perceptual style" reflected by this well-engineered vehicle from Honda............

..all the best, ez...........

Just be glad it wasn't a Volvo. When I had the Volvo I took into the dealer for Oil change and ask for the new tires that I had put on less than 2500 miles before to be rotated. Mind that I had replaced the tires at the shop I managed and had even purchased Volvo specific wheel weights when I balanced and aligned.

I went to the dealer to pick up from O/C and Rotate and they presented me a bill for 180.00  I spoke with the service adviser and he told me that Volvo's guidelines on rotation required balance and alignment.BS
I asked to see the spec sheet on the alignment and then pulled my hunter sheet out of the glove box to show him no changes in alignment were made by his guy's and then proceeded to show him that the wheel weights had not been changed either.... so basically when they balanced tires they made no changes and alignment was just checked with no changes.
I said I only asked for rotate as per the work order and I would not pay for their so called alignment/balance.
He became very agitated that I had caught him in a lie and said there would be no charge  I said I would pay for an Oil change and rotation and not for the other Items I had not requested.
But in the 5 years since then I have told over 100 Volvo customers about there rip-off scheme.

People just don't understand that dealers make a very small margin on new car sales. Their money is made on used car sales and service!!

They'll always try won't they?

My gripe is not the amount of money involved, just the fact that they charged anything at all in this particular case.

Wow, sorry to hear you're having problems with your dealer. I went through a similar experience in NYC before I moved here to DC. I had a flat from a huge screw in my tire, got it replaced with a new, matching tire, and started to feel a pronounced shudder when braking, along with wandering whenever I was on the highway. I went to my dealer to get an alignment, with relative change to the condition of the car. I brought my car back, only to find out that when I brought my car in for its 30K service, the techs didn't mention that my rotors were warped. Because of that, they replaced them free of charge, a rarity for any dealer operating in the Tri-State area.
