Hi all,

(Please bare with english, Im french-canadian :))

I would much appreciate your feedback on this.

Over the past 15 years or so Ive owned a renault 5 1985, accord ex-i 1987, excel 1991, civic 1999, sentra 1990, sentra 1994, sentra 1999, crown victoria 2003 and a Corolla 1999. all of those stick, except for the crown vic.

I recently came to one conclusion: of all those car my favorite one, by far, was the accord.

Im currently looking to trade my corolla for an accord and that is were I need your help.

What is the most intersting years/model (stick of course !) for the accord 98 to 05 reliability wise (mechanics and body)?

Thanks a lot for all your responses and comments !

Cheer.

Many of the 6th gen with AT and early 7th gen have had a lot of problems with their transmission(especially the V6s) but since you're looking at a manual Accord, I would say it doesn't really matter what year it is, just be sure you carefully inspect the car prior to purchase and make sure the owner has not abused the car( ie take a test drive, check car's history etc)... maybe also try to avoid the first year of each model years (the 98' and 03') if possible. Basically, there is not much to worry about if you're going with the manual Accord. :D

having driven all of the gens (in stick) and having owned a 3rd gen (same as your lxi), a 4th, and 7th, the 5th gen is the newest accord will drive most like your lxi. The 6th and even more so the 7th gen are more cushioned and disconnected.

Another car that will ride and drive more akin to the 87 you had is a acura integra (Still a honda), they made them in 4dr up until 2001 I think. The 4dr i a good choice since "tuners" tend to not want them as bad, so lower value.

all the gens are great though!

Buy the cleanest used car you can, I think all Accords are fine cars.

Since you're looking at a stick (good choice, Honda makes great sticks), I'd go with the 7th gen (2003-2007) V6 with the six-speed manual. The gearbox is excellent, pretty much the best Honda's ever put in a car.

Granted, there have been some issues with third gear not wanting to engage, or popping out after it does. Honda has a TSB out on it, though, so that means if your car does it, Honda will fix it for free.

That TSB does not mean honda will fix ot for free. It is not a recall just a notice to inform dealers of a known problem.

The 04 to 05 Accord EX with the 5 speed is a great choice in i4 form. There is much less to maintain on them vs. the 6th gen 98 to 02 accord and they get great gas mileage. Past 05 is good too, I just included the years you're looking for. :)

Good choice and good luck, I'm jealous!

This one gets my vote too :)

I'm kind of partial to the 2005 Accord, but with what you're saying you want, I'd suggest a 2003-2005 Accord 4cyl 5speed or a 2003-2005 Accord v6-6speed. Watch out on the 03's though, some problems that the 04,05 don't have.
