I know I'm not the only tall bastard on here who can't comfortably fit in the EX coupe because of that damn moonroof and maybe I've watched too many episodes of Pimp My Ride and Overhaulin', but it's gotta be possible to take that moonroof off and weld a sheet of metal to cover the hole. Of course you'd have to replace the headliner with one from an LX couple and then repaint the roof...

Has anybody done it or thought about doing it or looked into how much it would cost? Would it be cheaper just to turn an LX V6 coupe into an EX?

Sounds like a backwards pimp.... lmao.

Its a shame this bothers you. The 06 LX-se is basicly a ex without the moonroof and ambiant lighting. and afew trim peices.

Im a soild 6'3", 260 to 70 lbs and am comphy in our ex. Can even wear a ball cap with room above my head. All be it,, its not much. :) a potato chip -- k-boy hat would be out of the question,, would never wear one anyway ) A classic pfedora would not work either. And I do wear one of those from time to time. I dont like it that the ex has no rock function for the seat bottom. Only in v-6 or leather I think,,, grrrr. Wifes escort had that function as well as our old tracer. I dont like the seat back reclined alot but I like to rock the whole seat back. Gives me added thigh support and more room.

I sure hope you find a solution for this problem. I have seen where it has been a concern of yours from day one. Would hope this dosent ruin your life with Accord.

I think the coupes have less headroom than the sedans. I'm 6'0" with a long torso and I cannot drive an EX coupe - in order to have enough room for my head, I have to lean back so far "ghetto style" that I can't reach the steering wheel or gearshift.

I like to sit very upright anyway - I like my arms and legs almost straight out with my back as vertical as possible.

This is why I bought my LX-SE coupe - I wanted the EX, but the sunroof was a deal-killer for me. I am *very* happy with my LX though :D

Yeah I'm 6'6" tall and although I was technically able to drive the EX V6 coupe, every bump in the road was messing up my hair  so I opted for the LX V6 instead. It's a great car don't get me wrong and it saved me some cash, but I hate the fact that I can't get the options that I want because somebody at Honda thinks that having a hole in the roof increases the value of the car. Dual-zone climate control, navigation, outside temp gauge, onboard computer, leather seating, heated seats... all of these things are useful options and then you have a moonroof that serves no useful purpose at all. It just doesn't fit and it certainly doesn't fit me.

I almost got the LX-SE 4cylinder with manual transmission instead until I started researching the feature differences. Things like 4-wheel disc ABS and EBD, traction control, steering wheel mounted audio controls and in-dash 6-disc changer, not to mention the glorious V6 engine for only a couple grand more sold me on the LX V6 (maybe it was 4 grand... I don't recall). :naughty:

I thought about doing the same thing, but I think to get the v6 with a manual you have to get the EX w/ leather etc.

I don't do automatics or leather seats, so the LX-SE 4 cyl was the only one for me. The other features like Traction Control - I've never needed them before, so I don't need them now :)

The cool thing is... we wanted different things, but the Accord was able to fulfil both our requirements :)

I have an EXV6 w/moonroof, and my neighbor has the HAH, no moonroof. From looking at them and sitting in both, all you would gain is about 1/2-3/4". Is that little amount worth it to cut the car up?

If it's that big of a deal to you, maybe you oughta see if a local dealer will trade with you, and the money spent on cutting up the car could go towards a price differential.

Good luck!

The difference is much more pronounced in the coupe, the sunroof loses you almost 2.5" of headroom.

One of the things I noticed at the dealer was that between the LX and an EX V6 (both sedan), there is a significance difference in headroom in both the front and rear for me. We initially drove the LX, and it gave me the impression that the interior was HUGE. I was IMPRESSED, it felt like the car had grown by leaps and bounds. I was disappointed when I got into the EX V6 later and found out it was not a whole bunch bigger than my car :(

I think that trying to remove the moonroof will cost less overall than simply retrofitting all these options. I think in particular, it would take a small fortune to integrate the OEM nav/climate and onboard computer. And just factor in leather and heated seats maybe $1000 if you're lucky and do installation yourself (buy OEM stuff from wrecked cars/junkyards/ebay). Not to mention, you could probably sell your sunroof and all that to some person who wants to retrofit it on their LX for a few bucks.

Of course, the flip side of the coin is that you could retrofit SOME of this stuff on your car and it'd be unique. I imagine you could use an aftermarket nav (some of which might have that onboard computer you wanted), or you could just build a car computer and run Microsoft Streets and Trips with a GPS receiver. The dual climate - I'm at a loss as to how to retrofit that, but we all know anything is possible with money. Just remember you won't be getting the money back when/if you sell the car, and it might create headaches if ever you need to file an insurance claim.

The coupe definately has less headroom than the sedan. We have both with sunroofs and there is perhaps 2" more clearance in the sedan.

You pretty much hit all the points I thought about, although the insurance claim never crossed my mind. It would really suck to throw a few grand into the car and then have it totaled and not get any of that money back. I suppose I'd be better off just saving up for an Acura TL or a BMW 3 series. Regardless, thank you very much for your ideas!

I am in agreement. It is simply time to evaluate a different car that fits your needs, regardless of brand. Custom work to the roof will not aliviate the shortage of headroom for you.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there since I have plenty of headroom in my coupe without a moonroof, I can only assume that customizing an EX would achieve the same effect. However the cost looks to outweigh the gains unfortunately.

I have been evaluating cars for the past year and a half or so which is what lead me to the LX V6 coupe and I'm not complaining about the car I have. It's wonderful. I just wanted to put the question out there to get other people's opinions and experience with that kind of modification.
