View Full Version : New 09 LX-S Owner, Couple of Questions
ViPaDawG 08-04-2009, 02:05 PM Hey All,
I discovered this forum through the magical world of Google, and I've been loving just reading what everyone has been doing to their cars.
I recently bought a new 2009 Coupe LX-S in BBP (i think that's Black Pearl? still getting accustomed to the lingo, so pardon any mistakes), and I love it to death.
I had a few questions.
I goto school in the mountains, and fog is sometimes terrible, so I am thinking about getting the OEM fog lights installed. My question is, can I get them installed on the LX-S? i called a few dealers here in the Northern Virginia Area, and some say you can, others say you can't. The dealer I bought my car from (Honda of Tysons Corner) is installing them for $400 (that includes installation and cost of the part itself). Anyone have experience and know if that is a fair price or not?
Also, I want to install some HIDs, and I'm thinking of getting them from Retro Solutions (35W 5000K), and if anyone in the Northern VA area knows someone who can install them inexpensively, or can help me install them, I would appreciate it.
Also, is there any benefit to adding a K&N air filter to the car? I have the 4 Cyl engine, so it's not terribly powerful, but any little bit helps, right? I'm the kind of guy who puts premium into my car, even if it doesn't require it, as I feel like there is definitely a difference in the way a car drives, but to each his own. Anyways, I'm thrilled to be apart of this community, and look forward to responses. Thanks!
sbowden99 08-04-2009, 03:44 PM Welcome to the forums!
I can't answer your substantive questions, but I would like to point out that the idea of labeling fuel as "premium" is a marketing scheme. "Premium" fuel simply has more octane. Octane is merely an explosive retardant.
Higher compression engines require higher octane to prevent premature detonation during the high pressure part of the stroke.
Our owner's manual recommends 87 octane. That's really all you need, and you'll see no benefit from higher octane (unless you're experiencing engine knock, in which case perhaps you should visit your dealer and have them check out your knock sensor).
Again, welcome. I'm sure someone else will be able to answer your other questions.
cheers,
--Seth

rwlib3 08-04-2009, 03:59 PM The LX-S does not come with the OEM wiring harness for the Fog Lights, so if the dealer is installing them, they'll have to install that too... would be interested to see that because a number of LX-S owners will want to get that done (or do it themselves)
I wrote up a DIY for installing aftermarket Fogs into an LX-S. Click the link in my sig...
Keep it to 87 octane and save the $$ for mods! :D

yeah right save the $$ for mods, $3 on your fillup wont make a big difference :P

haha, that's what I was just about to say. I dont know about you guys, but I think the engine is a bit smoother, and I'm pretty sure Premium gas also has a slightly higher level of detergents in it, which keep the engine cleaner, longer. Now, I know someone is going to be like, yeah, but they add one more box to the million gallons at the factory, but I dunno, like Ideol said, it's only $3, and I fill up like once every 2 or so weeks, so it's only $78 a year, which is fine for me, not that much of a waste.
Pirate 8 08-04-2009, 05:44 PM I use mid=grade gas which actually give me more MPG. Just a thought for your new ride:banana::banana:
morcheez 08-04-2009, 05:56 PM as for the foglights 400 seems a bit high but u are paying full price which is 280 bucks for the fogs themselves and at least an hour of labor at around 90 bucks an hour...im guessing they are running a harness for u ? i dunno since u dont have one already...you can go the route i went and get an ebay kit for around 160 bucks that includes all the wiring and even a switch that goes in the panel on the left side of your steering wheel where the vsa button is ...fairly simple install and while u have the front bumper off install of the hids u mentioned will be a breeze to
leggysoe 08-04-2009, 06:28 PM might wanna ask this guy: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=34982
jkcheng122 08-04-2009, 06:48 PM $3 per fill up is a lot, a few fillups here and there and you're looking at replacing some oem lights with LEDs.
ldeol 08-04-2009, 06:55 PM lol $3 a fillup, is well worth it. The extra $3 will give you more MPG, and a cleaner, smoother, fuel, with less clusters in your fuel line. Im happy with that!

Proof please.
ViPaDawG 08-04-2009, 07:59 PM Let's not turn this thread into a which gas you prefer. Each person has a personal preference, and no one is telling anyone else what gas to use.
Back to the topic (sort of), what are some cheap-er mods to do, that will make my car stand out. I was thinking about changing the lights in the interior to LED, is that something that's worth it? or should I skip it?

If you feel like premium gas makes the car perform better then you should definitely get the K&N air filter.
Use the search function to look up some of the interior LED mods to see if you like the look.
ViPaDawG 08-05-2009, 05:00 PM Ok, so I think I'm first going to get the Fog Lamps, and then install the HIDs myself in a few weeks.
One other question I have is, when starting the car, how do you guys go about warming it up? Should I let it idle, or start driving right away?
I goto school in Blacksburg, and during the winter, the temps in the morning at in the teens, so should I wait to let it warm up a bit, or what? Does it not matter? I only drive a short distance in the mornings to campus. any input on this is appreciated.
glen e 08-05-2009, 07:25 PM I go in for mods that are not particularly expensive (lease car) but add a little flair that only true mod'rs here would see....overall ithas to keep a "clean" look...see my sig...
