View Full Version : Non-Accord 15" Alloys on a 7th Gen LX
andysinnh 09-23-2005, 11:53 AM OK - on my never-ending search for a set of alloys for my 15" michelins (to free up my 15" steelies for snow tires), I finally landed a set of new Honda wheels to put on the '05 Accord LX. They fit great, ride like a dream, and look pretty good. Check out the attached picture and tell me if you like 'em or not, and whether you can tell what vehicle they're an accessory wheel for (yep, quiz time!) :D
I opted (again) for this 15" route due to finances. The cost of a set of 16" takeoff accord wheels was $500 at least plus shipping, and if I went TSX takeoffs it'd be even more. So for a little over $200 I got these. I'm pretty happy!!!
andy
ps - put a set of Viking Stop 5000 H-rated snows on the steel wheels while I was at the tire shop - $67 each out the door. They're rated pretty high in Europe and made in the UK, so we'll see how that goes.
andysinnh 09-23-2005, 12:00 PM And it's from ???
04blkpearlcoupe 09-23-2005, 12:16 PM I think they look good! I'm gonna just guess that they're from a Prelude.
andysinnh 09-23-2005, 05:28 PM Nope - not a Prelude. Ok - they're the accessory wheels from a CR-V. If you go to www.handaccessories.com and look under the first gen CR-V you'll find them. They want $99 each - a Honda dealer on eBay is asking $229 "buy it now" for all 4, new in the box. I think he has more, and can dig up the auction number if anyone's interested.
andy
BenjiBoy650 09-23-2005, 10:00 PM I figured out that they were from a CR-V lol. They look kinda like the JDM Ody wheel.
RTexasF 10-08-2005, 12:57 AM Looks darn good to me
rookie 10-08-2005, 01:59 PM What was that auction number? :lmao:
andysinnh 10-08-2005, 05:57 PM Not sure if :lmao: meant you wanted the auction number or not, but he's got more at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8005913826
andy
BenjiBoy650 10-08-2005, 06:04 PM That guy has some GREAT deals. If those Prelude alloys weren't painted red, I'd snatch up a set. There's a 01-02 MDX wood/perforated leather wheel on there too for what $180? It fits 6th gen Accords, and it's $400 new
Also note center caps cost money! They'd probably ask you for 50 bucks if you wanted those center caps from the dealer.
andysinnh 10-08-2005, 06:53 PM The other place that has great deals at times is Baldwin Auto Parts. I just got a new lip spoiler for my 05 LX for $180 plus shipping - new in the box. For those with a pilot that are into "bling", he's got a set of new bumper garnish for like $265 at this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUMPER-GARNISH-HONDA-PILOT-2003-2004-2005-OEM-NEW_W0QQitemZ8004769412QQcategoryZ33654QQssPageNam eZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

andysinnh 10-09-2005, 05:35 AM PK - if you mean the wheels that I1 just bought, look at the picture at the top - it's an 05 LX with those exact wheels - fit like a charm.
One other note -there's a lot of mis-information on the web about center bore size, and it would lead one to believe that the old V6 Accord 5-lug has a larger center bore than the current ones. Here's the deal - if it's a 5-lug Honda/Acura, it's a 64.1mm center bore - with only 1 exception, and that's the 2nd generation Acura Legend, which for SOME reason has a 70.3 mm center bore......
andy
Bigbucks1959 10-09-2005, 05:43 AM OHH Yeh..LOL
Nice Color Too. :lmao: :lmao:
I got a little confused after reading this in a current auction:
"THIS IS A GENUINE HONDA 15" 5-SPOKE WHEEL KIT. THEY ARE ABLE TO FIT ALL 5 LUG ACCORD, CR-V, PRELUDE, CL, RL AND TL MODELS UP TO 2004. THEY COME AS A SET OF FOUR WITH THE CENTER CAPS. THEY ALSO HAVE HONDA "H" ON EACH CENTER CAP SO YOU KNOW THEY ARE GENUINE HONDA.
2004??????????
:dunno:
Thoughts?

They will fit a 2004 but this auction is already closed :thumbsdow
Don't know how many sets he had but unfortunately the well appears to be dried up.

Bigbucks1959 10-09-2005, 06:48 AM Actually, there is an auction gong on now....withe exact verbage I just sent thru.
My concern is the rims fitting my 2005 LX Accord.

Unless andysinnh is great photoshop expert and is faking the pictures he posted of these wheels on his 2005LX(I doubt that) , I would say yes they will fit your 2005LX also..;)

andysinnh 10-09-2005, 07:16 AM The wheels fit any Accord 5-bolt hub, so they should be all set.

Inspector1 10-09-2005, 07:28 AM When I get mine I'll post some pics!
Thanks again andysinnh for posting your findings!!! :)
I was about to buy a set of steelies and covers for $235 and then saw that I could buy a set of Honda OE Alloy's for $285. No brainer for me :)

andysinnh 10-09-2005, 03:21 PM Well, the guy is in Virginia and I live in NH. I ordered them on a sunday evening, he shipped them on Monday and I got them on Wednesday - he gets 'em out pretty quick - and they send a UPS shipping confirmation with each box.
BTW - each box has the new center cap AND a new valve stem - the kind that attaches with a nut and rubber grommits.
andy
Bigbucks1959 10-09-2005, 04:18 PM Sounds Great.
Now I have to schedule an appointment to have my tires moved over.

Inspector1 10-12-2005, 04:09 PM Yep received mine today as well. A little disappointed that they a 6" wide and not 6.5" like stock. They are 50 offset also. They will fit and I will install my snows on them until this set wears out then I will buy a set of 70 series tires for better wear.
That is one thing I would note to you guy's is watch your tread wear close if you have 65 series now.
Looks like most dealers have had these around since 2000 so thanks to that all the faces have marring from cardboard dust in the plastic bags...
See Image.....
But still for the price
Inspector1 10-12-2005, 04:10 PM but a little Menzerna Final polish and thats gone...........................

Any mild compound should work 3m perfectit swirl mark remover 39009 for dark cars or 39109 for light cars.
Megs #82 or #9
I use a microfiber appilicator to polish out by hand.

andysinnh 10-12-2005, 05:37 PM The rim width is one of the things that kept me from buying a set of these a few months ago - I saw them but was nervous about going narrower. So, I took the plunge (like you) and had the factory 205-65's installed. I've run them for probably about 700 miles and I can't tell a lick of difference in how they handle vs the 6.5" stock steel wheels.
Actually, there is a difference - they're much smoooother than the factory steel wheels, and take the bumps much nicer since the wheels are lighter. The offset difference of 5mm is negated by the wheel width decrease , so they stick out exactly the same. I rotated the tires when I put them on the new wheels, and there is zero wear on the front tires in 900 miles. I figure if the offset/width difference was gonna cause any problems you would start to feel feathering after only a few hundred miles - so far, so good!
My wheels had some real slight hazing from being in the box, but a bit of Zymol wax/cleaner and they were perfect. Make sure you put the center cap applique on the center cap itself beforehand to make sure the 3M tape holds well (like don't do it in the rain, etc). And if you're gonna install the valve stems before you go, make sure you get 'em good and tight. The tire guys ragged on me since I didn't tighten mine enough. :lmao:
Let me know how they work - I"m real happy. Put on my lip spoiler yesterday, so hope to take some pics when it stops raining to post in the Gallery.

BenjiBoy650 10-12-2005, 06:51 PM I don't know if the V6 wheels are wider, mine are 6" :dunno:
andysinnh 10-12-2005, 06:57 PM V6 Gen 6 wheels are 6.5" wide - same dimensions as the gen 7. The 4-bolt I4 wheels were 6" wide. Overall, however, I'm not seeing a difference.....

The 3m and Meguiars are available in most local parts/paint suppliers ..........
NAPA/Carquest
Thats why I listed those.... Menzerna/Poorboys online
You want to use a polish compound on them 1st then seal with a polymer or acrylic sealant...... waxes(carnuba) will not last more than a month.
Treat your wheels just like car finish because they are painted and clear coated just like the body.
I1 :)
BenjiBoy650 10-12-2005, 07:17 PM V6 Gen 6 wheels are 6.5" wide - same dimensions as the gen 7. The 4-bolt I4 wheels were 6" wide. Overall, however, I'm not seeing a difference.....
I don't think it makes a big difference. Subaru upped the rear wheel width on the STi by 1/2 inch without changing the tire width. Said that it gave the sidewall more support = less bending = more grip :dunno: Doesn't matter on our huge sidewalls.
Inspector1 10-12-2005, 07:19 PM V6 Gen 6 wheels are 6.5" wide - same dimensions as the gen 7. The 4-bolt I4 wheels were 6" wide. Overall, however, I'm not seeing a difference.....
The tire wear with a narrower rim will show in the middle before the edges.
The 205/65/15 tires on my car now will fit rims from 5.5"-7.5" so it is not a safety issue as far as tire to rim compatibility.
Running a narrower rim gives the tire a smaller cross-section footprint
(side to side)
Which in turn is better for a snow tire.
Still a great deal to be able to run alloy's year round!!

If you are talking #85 Diamond cut 2.0 thats pretty abrasive, if you use that go real easy. I always go with the least abrasive then step to stronger if needed.
Some of the more abrasive compounds may need follow up with a milder abrasive/polish to remove any hazing left from the stronger one.
I1 :)
andysinnh 10-13-2005, 05:51 AM Earlier in the summer I tried a set of aftermarket wheels for the Accord. They were 6.5" wide, but had an offset of 40. After about 500 miles, I was getting feathering on the outer edge of the tires due to the increased stance of the tires. When I went back to the factory steel wheels, the wear ceased.
I had concerns about the 50mm offset of these wheels, but after running them for more miles than my previous experiment, there is no wear. So the offset was a concern.
The wheel width can (in theory) make for a thinner tread patch, but with the OEM tire size it makes little difference, since the width of the tread is roughly the width of the 6" wheel. If you ran a wider tire (where the tread was significantly wider than the wheel) I could see an impact here.....

rookie 10-21-2005, 07:33 PM Well, I got my wheels today - set of 4 off Ebay... teh CR-V ones as you guys did...
One thign that is a bit dissapointing is that - they are 25 lb each? Wow. That's I think more than the stock steel wheel! I guess it had to be heavier to support a heavier vehicle (CR-V).
Not a big deal really but - was hoping that I'd lose the car weight not gain it!
IMO the wheels look great though, I think I'll go and have them installed tomorrow - can't wait!
BenjiBoy650 10-21-2005, 07:51 PM I think you'll find most normal factory alloys are in the neighborhood of 20-25 pounds, higher for a bigger 17"+ wheel.

andysinnh 12-21-2005, 05:43 AM I1 - Nice wheels!
Of course, during the winter I've got the absolutely stylin' steelies with factory hubcaps - but given the salt we have up here, I'd rather be running the steels vs the alloys - the salt really pit's em out, especially near the bead area. But the nokian hakka 2's with studs are unstoppable. Now, with my new Pilot on board, the son drives the accord most time, and he's really happy with the handling in the winter. Plus, if he does do some winter snowbank rubbin', the plastic hubcaps will bear the brunt of the abuse and leave the alloys for the salt-free, snowbank-free conditions.
