hey guys, i was having an issue on my car where the pedals would vibrate when accelerating from 40 - 70 mph. took it to the mechanic and after test driving it he told me it's the cv shaft. $450 to do both sides. what do u guys think? good deal? is this something that's gonna get worse with time? is it dangerous? lol i would like to not spend $450 right now... thanks :)

Its possible. CV shaft should be worse if you load them, try a highway entrance ramp accelerate out the end of it. If they are shot, most likely it will be a lot worse since you are loading the CV shaft a lot accelerating through a curve.

You do not say miles, but if your over 100k and the boots are torn, its likely thats true. Now if the boots are in tact, and you have low miles.... Id be hesitant.

$450 for both does not sound so bad.

did your mechanic say the shaft was bad or the joints or boots?

Can you expand on what actually vibrates? the accelerator pedal? Never heard/experienced that.

as far as the cost, it seems fair. I'd say if you trust the guys work, it not a rip-off.
The axle assembly are about 50/side, new at rockauto. It took me (not a mechanic) about 60-75min to swap one side out. My local garage charges 120/hr. So I'd say it's within reasonable...hope that helps.
