Today, I parted company with my 1991 LX 4dr, purchased new in July of '91, and which served me well for almost 430,000 miles on its original engine and transmission.

Sadly, the engine finally expired on August 24th, half-way up Mount Rainier, and I had to make the difficult decision that replacing the engine, and fixing a number of less-serious but still non-ignorable problems, would cost me more than it was worth.

But...the saga of my former car is not yet over. I gave it to the Honda expert at my local mechanic (Greg's Japanese Auto), who already has a used engine ready to install himself, with plans to give it to one of the young members of his extended family who just got their driver's license. So, my Accord will live on, for a new owner who can always count on a mechanic in the family whenever things go wrong. And me...? Well, I made the only logical choice, and upgraded to a 6thGen with "only" 93,000 miles on it -- so, hopefully, it'll serve me a good decade or so...

IMO, Gen Four is one of the FINEST that HMC ever produced.

Wandering through the canyons of my (feeble) memory, I recall first time I laid eyes on a new 1990 Accord. Seems to me that Honda took the emblems off of the predecessor car, and stuck them on the Civic. Then put "Accord" emblems on an all-new car, much bigger, much more powerful, much more refined, even more sophisticated. It knocked my F-ing socks off.

Not long ago, as I pulled into a parking spot at Wally World, saw this lady exiting a 1993 Accord Coupe "EX." Utterly FLAWLESS. If I didn't enjoy this "J30" V6 so damn much, I'd trade with her, keys for keys! :yes:

wow, i can only wish my 94 will last that long. a good reason for me to never part with it!

agreed. 4th gens were amazing. mine had 266k when the rust overcame the sheet metal.

Fourth Generation Honda with 429,653 miles is quite an achievement. Make yourself a plaque with photo of car and mileage, and then hang on a wall or place on your desk. Regards

That many miles in rain soaked WA state makes the mileage even more AMAZING. 400k is a lot of miles!!!!
