Hi all,
I am hoping someone here can help me. I have a 1991 Accord EX W/ automatic trans. Few days ago it was raining and I was driving around town. When I started to excelerate fram a red/green light the car would not catch 2nd gear when it tried to shift. It would just free rev. I pulled the car into a parking lot and turned the car off. I waited about 1 minute and restarted the car and there were no problems for about 15 minutes and then it started all over again. I had to do this 2 or 3 more times to get the car home. I pulled the codes from the computer and got code 41 from the check engine light and code 15 from the green S light. Can anyone please tell me if these codes (and the problem that goes with these codes) would cause this problem? When I checked the codes these are the only 2 I saw. How do I know if these were the only 2 codes. If there is more than one code with the codes cycle or do I need to do something to get to the next code?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Robert...

I only have access to the European Accord Service Manual, but it looks like The transmission code (15) is for a disconnected mainshaft speed sensor (sounds like VSS? Not positive). Code 41 is for the heater O2 sensor.

do you mean that first gear sticks and when it should shift it just keeps revving out first gear or do you mean that it goes from first to basically neutral?
first check trans fluid
see if it is dirty and see how much is in it
because it sounds like your trans is starting to slip

First gear does not stick. when the trans tries to shift it basically goes to neutral. Trans fluid is at normal level and is not dirty.

Well it looks like bad news for the honda:wavebye:. Sent it to a trans. shop and they told me the trans needs to be rebuilt:bawling:. They want 1500.00 - 1800.00 to rebuild:headbash:. I do not think it is worth the money to fix it so I think I will look for another car and try to sell this one for a few dollars.
Thank you all for trying to help. I wish things turn out a little better.

Where are you located? Depending on location, I may be interested in purchasing the car.

well you can get a 5 speed swap for like 300 on a honda forum and get it installed for like 300-400
or you can check craigslist and find an auto trans for 150-200 and have someone put it in unless the car isnt in good shape and you want another car

So did the tranny shop tell you what was wrong? I mean if they know it needs to be rebuilt, shouldn't they be able to tell you why? Sounds to me like the second gear clutch pak isn't engaging. That's not terminal, could be as simple as a faulty gasket at valve body. Or perhaps a faulty shift solenoid. I'm uncertain how this particular transmission shifts (vacuum or electronic) either way, always bear in mind that these days people are hungry, not saying they're pullin one over on you, but it might not be as bad as it sounds.:dunno:

Unlike the older, conventional Planetary gearboxes, on most Honda ATs, it is actually a HYDRAULICALLY-shifted manual transmission. As a general rule, the electrical servos/solenoids don't give a lot of problems.
Symptoms alone will often NOT provide a clear diagnosis. A transmission is sort of like a box of Cracker Jacks: You don't know what the surprise is until you open it up. :D
