Anyone know of any NJ Inspection Stations near south central Jersey (Marlboro) to get a car with tinted windows inspected.

Thanks

Thanks Kaitlina,
I know that, however, since the inspection is free, very few stations offer it. I was hoping to get the benefit of someone else's experience. :dunno: It's not even for me, it's for my daughter and my son-in-law, they just got married and moved to NJ and now has to register the cars there (20% tint)

Out of curiousity, whats the big deal about getting a car inspected with tints in NJ?

I have 20% tints on my coupe and I just got my car inspected last week, no problem!

You are right, in NY, no problem, however, unlike New York, NJ is a state run inspection which is free of charge. Two problems here:

Since it is free, very few independent garages offer it.
Since tints in NJ are illegal, you won't pass inspection if done by a state facility.

It's only "free" at the MVC (DMV). You have to pay everywhere else you go to get it inspected, whether you have something illegal or not. A lot of private garages do inspections, usually costs around $80-$100. It's not that hard to find one that will pass you.

I you live in New jersey the only way u can pass inspection is if ur 2 front windows are not tinted , the rest can be tinted, been there done that , i had to remove my front tints to pass and make sure ur third break light is not covered hope this helps...

Inspection is only free at a MVC inspection facility.

All independent garages charge for inspections. The price already posted is about right.

Tint on rear windows ONLY. NO tint at all on fronts, no tint lower than 4" from the top on the windshield. They'll measure it too.

However, if you pull out of the inspection place that will pass the tint, and get pulled over, and the cop sees the tint, they'll make you scrape it right in front of them. Not the tint, the inspection sticker. And they'll give you the $146 fail to inspect and a tint ticket too. Then the shop gets screwed.

Had a few customers that had to do it. The shop I work at doesn't want the bother (and it is) of dealing with those twits at MVC.

Im reffering to state facilities not independent garages, from wat i experience they only check for emissions not safety or things like tints, but i lived on Newark, so thats wat ive seen, indpendent garages in other cities might be more anal about it ......:deal:

No, they check for everything at the MVC. There's no way you can pass at all if you don't meet their requirements.

If anything, independent garages are the ones that are easier to get away with. They're the ones that you pay to get your inspection stickers. Usually, the ones that will let you get away with illegal mods charge you extra money. There's plenty of those shady shops in Newark.

I know for a fact there is a place that will pass tints somewhere on Oak Tree Road in Iselin (Not sure if you know the area). I dont know the name of the garage. Let me ask around for you and get back to you.

wow that ****s on the NJ inspection law thing, I paid $35 for mine, and I could have had a boat load of mods and it wouldn't have mattered ...

I remember on my previous ride since i had exhaust they told me it wouldn't pass so they just hooked up the sensor to another car's exhaust and passed me, :lmao:

Haha good one.

It ****s in PA too thuogh. Although there are more private shops that will pass for stuff, you have to get your car inspected every year. Ridiculous.

never heard of anything this extreme. and whose to say you didnt get the tints done after you went through inspection. in 08 i went from a state inspection facility getting my new sticker to the tint shop and had he front ones done:banana:

when i did go through inspection (july) i had both my front windows down (tint on back windows) and they didnt even bother putting them up to check them

I guess you found a lazy station. Lucky!

I can't tell you the number of cars that have come in with inoperative windows, if they don't roll up or down, they fail it. If they're rolled down, they roll them up.

i guess thats just a rumor then what i have heard about being able to pass with no front windows (pull the power window fuse before going). when i have to go through again in july i will try going with the windows down again and if i fail ill take it off then once i get the new sticker drive from the inspection station to the tint shop again. i may look into private garages first though

NJ has strict tint laws, I had to pay to get my Civic inspected thru a friend at a private shop. I never had problems gettingmy cars inspected with tints in new york (i miss it)

Should be around $100-$150 depending on where you get them done and how good the work is, I have a shop in Brooklyn that does mine, I have to get tints on my accord now, hopefully next month I'll get it done.
