I just bought a 97 accord with 84k miles on it and it only has one regular key. I was wondering if I should order the keyless entry. I order one for my gf for her 2001 LX and it didn't work. Someone said they didn't all come equipped with keyless entry. I'm going to do a search about oil, but I imagine it uses 10/40 since it has over 80k miles.

Only the 1997 Special Edition came with keyless entry. You could add it, but I think it would be a pain in the ass. As for the oil, throw some Seafoam in the gas tank and crankcase a couple days before you do the oil change, and then change the oil with some 5W-30 synthetic. If the engine runs loud, use 10W-40 synthetic instead.

Ok great, I will do that. Can I get Seafoam at pepboys? I imagine it has directions on how much to add to crankcase and to gas tank.

An article mentioned it is easy to install a car alarm on a honda accord because it's wiring is set up to do it easily. An alarm comes with keyless entry built in. Has anyone out there installed one themselves? It seemed simply when reading.

I noticed I can't lock the door I am holding open when pressing the door lock switch. I'm guessing it is a safety feature so I don't lock my keys in the car. My gf's new accord does not have this feature. Is this an actually feature?

My 1997 Accord came with an aftermarket alarm and it unlocked/locked the doors with the clicker. Probably your cheapest/best route...gives you keyless AND security in one and probably for about 100 bucks.

What about the 2001 V6 LX, did that one come with keyless entry?

I once owned a '97 Accord LX sedan, and I loved it! Sad thing was the car was falling apart, so I traded it in for an '03 EX-L V6 6 speed coupe. The '03 has all the technology of the '97 plus more. Here's the features you have with your door locks. First off, you know that you have power locks. You can lock and unlock all your doors with the press of a button. Next, if you shut off the engine and open the driver's door, you will notice that you can lock all the other doors except the driver's door regardless if the key is in the ignition or not. This is a safety feature so that you don't accidentally lock your keys in the car. What I used to do is when I got out of my car, with the driver's door still open I'd pull on the handle on the outside (doesn't make a difference whether use the inside or outside handle) while pushing down on the lock tab. That would lock all 4 doors in my car. It's a neat trick if you wanna lock your car.

As for your girlfriend's Accord, only the EX trim includes keyless entry, but all 6th generation Accord keys have immobilizer chips regardless of which trim level the car is. You could install a factory keyless entry if you wish, but have fun doing that!

Great, thanks for the info. I will use that trick from now on, but if I lock my keys in then I'm going to say "darn that Antarctica" , hehe jk.

I used to keep a spare key for my 97 Accord in my wallet. It was flat and fit perfectly.

I was at AAA and they made me a free plastic key, but it didn't work. Then I went to home depot and they made me a key and that didn't work. He put my key in a slot and it wouldn't fit, but my gfs 01 honda key did fit and it looked identical to mine. But I guess it is slightly different. I'm not sure where I can make a copy now.

NO. For all Gen Six cars, it is a (rather expensive) dealer-installed ACCESSORY. Else some (add-on) aftermarket system.

Try Wal-Mart. That's where I made a spare copy of my key at.
