Do any of you ask exclusively for stick on wheel weights rather than the hammer on ones when you do a balance?

View Full Version : Stick On Wheel Weights shadow85 10-01-2009, 07:47 AM Do any of you ask exclusively for stick on wheel weights rather than the hammer on ones when you do a balance? andrewd523 10-01-2009, 07:56 AM I never thought about doing this, but that is not a bad idea. I always cringe when I see those weights that are hammered in. next_milenium 10-01-2009, 08:15 AM Reputable shops and dealers will use the stick on weights on alloy wheels even if you don't ask for them. L's TLS 10-01-2009, 08:20 AM ^^^ yea never had a hammer close to any of my wheels lebomb 10-02-2009, 06:46 AM Stick on are the only way to go for appearance, not to damage your wheel and also the weight can be centered on the wheel and not off to one side. Atomic Robot 10-02-2009, 08:37 AM I never even thought about this until recently because there have always been hammer-on weights on the wheels of our cars. When I got the Accord I thought that the weights were missing, then I saw the stick-ons inside the wheel. Then I got pissed at myself for not realizing that there was an alternative to the ugly hammer-ons. From now on I will know to instruct a tire shop to use the stick-ons. I use a local tire & service shop that gives you "lifetime balancing" when you purchase tires. We bought tires for our Odyssey there and the next time it's in for an oil change I'm planning to have them re-balance the wheels using the stick-ons. 09^CBP^6MT 10-02-2009, 08:43 AM FYI if you plan on driving faster than 130mph add a layer of good duct tape over the stick on weights to keep then secure to the wheels. The only issues I have ever had with stick on weights is working the brakes enough to MELT the lead stickies right out of the wheel, and they tend to fly off at 130+. None of this done on an accord of course, but just helpful info for other applications. Furple 10-02-2009, 11:34 AM My stock rims have the hammer ons and I don't mind it because there is only a tiny little lip and they are not painted wheels. My summer wheels are silver painted and have a very small step lip. For sure hammer on weights would ruin them and look terrible... 09^CBP^6MT 10-02-2009, 11:36 AM The ridgeline wheels also have the lip and get the hammer weights BTW. |
