TimeBombTown 10-09-2009, 03:22 PM This is a question for my fellow cloth seater. Is it just me, or do you get an electric shock every time you get out of the car and close the door? It doesn't matter what pair of pants I'm wearing...I always build up static electricity and get a nasty shock when I touch the metal of the door. I'm always making sure I touch the plastic or rubber...but sometimes touching the plastic gives me a shock too! Anybody else find themselves in my current situation, or do I just have an electric personality? ;)
Haha used to happen to me all the time in the old Protege5... I believe you can buy a strap that hangs under the car and "grounds" the car... otherwise I just learned to live with it... Shhhhhhocking.
Grab ahold of a metal body part of the car, set foot on ground, get out of car. As weather gets colder and drier, you get electrostatic. So ground yourself when you get out of the vehicle, problem solved.
TimeBombTown 10-09-2009, 03:53 PM Ah, that explains why I didn't have this problem back in July when I bought the car. I'll definitely try that out. Thanks, Ice.

Ohhhh is that why some cars have that rubber strap hanging to the ground? lol
8thGenInspire 10-09-2009, 04:09 PM not experiencing this problem haha but I always ground myself before I fill my oil :)
Osiris_x11 10-09-2009, 04:29 PM I need to sort this out also, though I get it more-so in certain vehicles in the household than others. . .
(I guess I gotta stop wearing PVC-pants w/ sheer metallic-tops & imitation-jewelry... sighhh! :naughty:)
mi08coupe 10-09-2009, 06:01 PM Thanks ever so much for that mental picture Osiris. On a related note, how do you blind your minds eye? :D:D
searich07 10-09-2009, 06:53 PM Kinda gives me a charge. Regards

09^CBP^6MT 10-09-2009, 07:00 PM Anti static spray will cure this. It is in the laundry soap section. It is made for dresses and such, so it should be safe for the seats. You can also use dryer sheets and rub them on the seats every once in awhile too.
09^CBP^6MT 10-09-2009, 07:30 PM Me either, but we are both in Cali. When I travel to cold climates it happens non stop.
08NighthawkI4MT 10-10-2009, 04:12 PM This happens to me every dam day and its not just a little shock either its pretty stong
Bruce Hawkins 10-10-2009, 04:21 PM I found some shoes are more prone to this problem (try different shoes). Touch the car open handed, not with your finder (pointy things arch better, more voltage, over small area, bigger arch)...
Navy699 10-12-2009, 11:28 AM I second what 09^CBP^6MT said. I used to have a '91 Accord LX with Ivory cloth seats (light shade of tan) and would use a can of "Static Guard" spray every month or so on the seats to keep from getting zapped. It worked like a charm and did not affect the color of the fabric at all over many years. You can find this in the laundry products aisle. It has a bit of a smell at first but it goes away after a few hours, especially if you leave the windows down.
