Okay, it is on a 05 Element EX. I had a great experience with my dealer so I decided to give them a referral (also I get $100 for it). They gave me KBB good trade in value with my car and also my honda was at invoice, so I thought I could help my coworker.
I was helping my coworker to trade his 04 Saturn Ion 3 for a 05 Element EX. I know everyone here is Accord owners, but I was wondering what are your opinions. My coworker, actually I am his supervisor, had a day off and I decided to help him out on haggling for a new car. He can't haggle very well and I hate to see him get burned again, so I decided to be a good friend and help him out and keep my haggling skill sharp :lmao:
Here are the basics:
-MSRP with dealer crap was $21770 plus tax and dealer added junk
-KBB "good" trade in value on his Saturn was $9365 with only 7400 miles.
-He owes $9352, so it's pretty much a wash
-Invoice on the Element was $19375
-Dealer cash incentive was $500
-Able to get the selling price to $19100 (granted it should be 18875)
-Here is the kicker, the dealer offered $6000 for his trade in. :thumbsdow
-I stood firm and said no freakin way the trade in was $6000.
-Manager came in and gave me some mumbo jumbo about where is his profits blah blah blah. I don't care about his profits. He then offered $7000 for his trade in.
-I said that he is going to make his profit from the 1% or so interest from my friend's finance, selling of the Saturn (the retail price was $12000), and also most likely the interest from the new buyer of the Saturn. Needless to say, I stood firm and told him basically that $9365 or no deal.
-Manager said no deal and we walked away. Eventhough I mentioned to him that I already gave them a referral and now here is a second one. That's two referrals in less than 6 months.
-I told my friend that they will call him tomorrow or sometime this week to give him a better offer, but I told him stay firm at $9365.
-The next day, the dealer called and offered $9200, but he said that he is not willing to go under $9365. On that same call, the dealer agreed and valued the trade in at $9365.
So he got the Element at 19100 with a trade in at 9365 and I will be getting my referral money within a couple of weeks. :naughty:
