MrDemonicAngel 10-14-2009, 09:04 AM I just thought maybe we can keep a thread going for Chicago drivers...for any topic...help...meets...just for laughs...
well I'm in Wheeling...used to live by Schaumburg tho...
I see tons of 8th gen accord driving around but noone seems to want to talk in the forums...
heres a topic...the illinois tinting law is being voted on today...it allows for front and rear to be tinted up to 35% all around...
chicagochris 10-14-2009, 11:29 AM Cool ;-) I am in Lansing, drive downtown lots... ;-) Love LSD late at night. Also, I just got all my windows tinted 35% all round woot!

Aw well, if Daley and Stroger Jr. can do what they are doing with no problems, I can afford to have my windows tinted all round with 35% tint, with no problems ;-)
Love the outer drive ;-) Esp that really tight turn after the lake point towers. :-)
1-VT3C 10-14-2009, 02:11 PM Hey guys. I'm in Schaumburg. I had 35% tint in front but got a ticket while back, so i just removed it. I'm just glad they have a bill to allow 35%, i hope it doesn't get vetoed again. :headbash:

That's total bulls$it....where did you get the ticket?? Driving? or while the car was parked. I heard of lame-assed Chicago cops with nothing better to do, give out tickets for dark tint, on parked cars....

Pulled out of lifetime fitness on east higgins with my windows more than half way down. Cop follows me for about 5 seconds and i knew i had it coming. I get the ticket waved eventually, just had to take tint off, take pics, and show it in court. Im pretty sure the cop was doing a safty check because he looked at my rear first and then went over to the front to see if i had my license plate, then comes to my window, my windows were not all the way down so he notices the tint.
searich07 10-14-2009, 05:03 PM Welcome to Drive Accord. My brother lives in Wheeling, I am originally from Chicago area. 35% is great for Illinois. I moved up here to Pacific NorthWest from South Florida, where everyone has tint, because of 330 days of sunshine. Post some photos of your ride. Regards
Richard

I know which lifetime that is...the cops around there really don't have anything better to do...every other weekend they set up road checks at night...so annoying...
well as far as the tint law goes...its been pushed to tomorrow...hope it passes...i'm iching to get my tints done...
Have you guys heard of Umbra window tinting company in schaumburg? wise rd....i was planning on taking my car there but wanted some feedback of that place...

Schaumburg/hoffman estates cops are real strict.:headbash: Yea i hope it passes!! and is the umbra tinting right by advanced auto glass? If so yes, i was at advanced auto glass to get something fixed, and asked the guy if they do tinting so he told me to go next door, dont remember umbra but its there i think.

There is this guy who did my tints..has been doing it for 20 years... http://www.tinttou.com/ $230 for sides and back, 35%...good material that will last 10 years..Very enthusiastic about tinting... He will come to you in the Chicagoland area.

only problem is he requires that I have a garage or some sort of enclosure at my place...I live in an apartment complex and we only have a parking "lot"...
i would much rather have some guy come to me but i dont want the job to be half assed because wind blew some dirt and leaves between my tint film and window...
MrDemonicAngel 10-15-2009, 01:25 PM Tint law has now PASSED~!!!
EDIT:
the House passed it...it needs to go BACK to the Senate now....this is annoying..............
I actually made an appointment just now to get tints tomorrow and now I have to call to cancel...argh..
1-VT3C 10-15-2009, 01:56 PM :headbash:. Also i heard that even if the bill gets passed, it will take effect january 2010. I don't know if that is true or not. But i think it should be passed by oct 30th.
MrDemonicAngel 10-16-2009, 05:02 AM from what I heard, once the senate passes it by Oct. 30th, the governor should be signing it to take effect immediately...
and I have a feeling once it does get passes...every tinting place is gonna raise their prices
Dark Shark 10-16-2009, 12:15 PM I'm in Frankfort.
I don't have tints because everyone I know gets pulled over for 'em. I think the bill is a good idea though.
1-VT3C 10-16-2009, 12:51 PM every tinting place is gonna raise their prices
I know right. Its gonna suck. That's why i'm going to do it myself for under $50. Ive already done it on a few cars including mine when i "had tints" and its fairly easy..except for the rear window which ill give a shot at this time or just get only the rear windshield done professionally.
MrDemonicAngel 10-18-2009, 08:25 AM worst part is even if it does pass on Oct 30...I'll be traveling for work a whole week afterwards so I can tint it till I get back...
downsides of my point above:
1. price might get jacked up if I wait too long after the bill passes into law
2. more people are getting tints so I'll have to wait til the shop has an available opening..
3. I only have time on Sat. to get this done
4. I'll be late to the tinting bandwagon...
OMGVinnyd 10-19-2009, 09:51 PM Okay I live in Schererville, Indiana but I work at Amtrak in Chicago. I have 5% tints all around except my windshield of course. So far I hvent been ticketed but I've been complimented by many cops. They just tell me to not drive like a jerk. They'll just add the tint violation to the reckless driving.
Oh and I drive an 08 accord ex i4 basque red. Anyone wanna meet up?
OMGVinnyd 10-19-2009, 09:57 PM Btw, most tinting places in Indiana range 100-150 in window tinting no matter what type of darkness
MrDemonicAngel 10-20-2009, 06:12 AM welcome Vinny...
thats alot cheaper than here...$220...but i'm still not driving down to Indiana just to get tints...
MrDemonicAngel 10-27-2009, 04:52 PM anyone know where in the suburbs i can get my HID installed?

I'm at an apartment with no garage and its against the lease to work on a car. Do either of you have your own garage?
Also, I've never done anything with a car that involved electricity except for switching LED bulbs...is that ok?
I was originally waiting for my buddy to install them but hes a full time student with a full time job and one part time job...he never has time...
so if either of you or maybe "BOTH" of you (quicker and a mini meet) are still willing to help me...let me know...I'm hoping to have these installed by this weekend...=P
I'll have time...Thursday night anytime after 5pm..Friday almost all day starting 1pm...Sat and Sun...completely free..
Rozco 10-29-2009, 04:49 AM Whats up with the tint law now, has it been passed yet?

senate didnt get to it at yesterday's hearing...most likely today we'll know
Rozco 10-29-2009, 05:36 AM I heard about that, but I totally forgot, I'm going to do 5% all back and 35 in front regardless of the law but it would b nice for all of it to be legal!

It all depends on where we will meet, currently i am located in Streamwood and i don't know how we will make things work out. I am also full time student but i am free on weekends depending on how much homework i have. i have a garage but i don't know what my parents are gonna have to say about someone coming to the house and working on the car lol but we can arrange something i guess and its pretty simple my friend. If you want i can answer almost every question and you can just follow a DIY thread on here as many have done this already. Let me know whats up? Maybe desiplaya can come up with an arrangement as well.

I hate to admit this but the only "tools" i have are a + and - screw driver and a hammer.
I definitely don't want to burden anyone including your parents.
I'll see if desiplaya is available. And if he is...maybe you can also bring your beautiful accord...as I said...a mini-meet

How much did it cost , if you look at the Car shops forum I'll left a thread for the tint place my friend and his cousins went to and I went to before.
So if I get 5% in the back and 35% in the front I won't get hassled right by the cops?

you will...
the new law states:
35% in the back = 35% in the front
30-35% in the back = 50% in the front
<30% in the back = no front tints
MrDemonicAngel 10-30-2009, 05:04 PM just came back from my night drive
I can see through the rear windshield just fine at night

Hey Danny,
Have you check your tinted window in a bright sunlight? I did 35% front windows last weekend, today I looked at it closely and found streaks and smudge a few spots between the film and window. I can't clean these oviously.
They did a great job last year but not this time. I have to make another appointment with let him redo it.

I havent been able to check. I left on a business trip right after I got my tints...I'll check mine after I get back next week.
Thats kinda disappointing to hear...
Rozco 11-04-2009, 04:56 AM I wonder how 35% would look in the front with 5% in the back. Any one got any pics of that on a 8th gen sedan.
