heres a topic...the illinois tinting law is being voted on today...it allows for front and rear to be tinted up to 35% all around... :thmsup:

Aw well, if Daley and Stroger Jr. can do what they are doing with no problems, I can afford to have my windows tinted all round with 35% tint, with no problems ;-)

That's total bulls$it....where did you get the ticket?? Driving? or while the car was parked. I heard of lame-assed Chicago cops with nothing better to do, give out tickets for dark tint, on parked cars....

Welcome to Drive Accord. My brother lives in Wheeling, I am originally from Chicago area. 35% is great for Illinois. I moved up here to Pacific NorthWest from South Florida, where everyone has tint, because of 330 days of sunshine. Post some photos of your ride. Regards

If so yes, i was at advanced auto glass to get something fixed, and asked the guy if they do tinting so he told me to go next door, dont remember umbra but its there i think.

There is this guy who did my tints..has been doing it for 20 years... http://www.tinttou.com/ $230 for sides and back, 35%...good material that will last 10 years..Very enthusiastic about tinting... He will come to you in the Chicagoland area.

only problem is he requires that I have a garage or some sort of enclosure at my place...I live in an apartment complex and we only have a parking "lot"...
i would much rather have some guy come to me but i dont want the job to be half assed because wind blew some dirt and leaves between my tint film and window...

the House passed it...it needs to go BACK to the Senate now....this is annoying..............
I actually made an appointment just now to get tints tomorrow and now I have to call to cancel...argh..

:headbash:. Also i heard that even if the bill gets passed, it will take effect january 2010. I don't know if that is true or not. But i think it should be passed by oct 30th.

from what I heard, once the senate passes it by Oct. 30th, the governor should be signing it to take effect immediately...

and I have a feeling once it does get passes...every tinting place is gonna raise their prices

I know right. Its gonna suck. That's why i'm going to do it myself for under $50. Ive already done it on a few cars including mine when i "had tints" and its fairly easy..except for the rear window which ill give a shot at this time or just get only the rear windshield done professionally.

worst part is even if it does pass on Oct 30...I'll be traveling for work a whole week afterwards so I can tint it till I get back...
downsides of my point above:
1. price might get jacked up if I wait too long after the bill passes into law
2. more people are getting tints so I'll have to wait til the shop has an available opening..
3. I only have time on Sat. to get this done
4. I'll be late to the tinting bandwagon...

Okay I live in Schererville, Indiana but I work at Amtrak in Chicago. I have 5% tints all around except my windshield of course. So far I hvent been ticketed but I've been complimented by many cops. They just tell me to not drive like a jerk. They'll just add the tint violation to the reckless driving.

Btw, most tinting places in Indiana range 100-150 in window tinting no matter what type of darkness

just came back from my night drive
I can see through the rear windshield just fine at night

I did my tint from Umbra last year too. Highly recommend this place.

I had 15% back and rear windows already and just did 35% front last weekend. I don't know if cops will notice it, I don't want to take 15% off. Maybe do 35% 2 small rear windows and keep 15% back.

Have you check your tinted window in a bright sunlight? I did 35% front windows last weekend, today I looked at it closely and found streaks and smudge a few spots between the film and window. I can't clean these oviously.
They did a great job last year but not this time. I have to make another appointment with let him redo it.

I havent been able to check. I left on a business trip right after I got my tints...I'll check mine after I get back next week.

OK, I went back to Nino and he fixed the problem. No more streaks.
