View Full Version : Ordered DC Sports Header!
RTexasF 10-13-2005, 12:45 PM Today I pulled the trigger and ordered the stainless exhaust header.
Guess I'd better get an exhaust gasket on the way too, I'm not going to reuse the old one.
Let's seee heerre, I figure that I should have it installed by the latter part of next week and the band aids off of my knuckles the following week! :lmao:
psyshack 10-13-2005, 05:34 PM Way to GO!!!! 5mt allows one to really enjoy there car. 5at assures wife of a car. And bordem :)
04blkpearlcoupe 10-14-2005, 01:24 AM cool! I may be ordering one soon too.
RTexasF 10-19-2005, 06:20 AM It arrived yesterday - - Time to go bust some knuckles!
04blkpearlcoupe 10-19-2005, 10:25 AM :dude: thats hot!
VTECaddict 10-19-2005, 11:49 AM :dude: thats hot!
yeah it is!
RTexasF 10-19-2005, 01:53 PM As I feared, I can't budge any of the exhaust bolts without airtools. I've ordered an exhaust manifold gasket from the dealer and will take it & the header to an exhaust place tomorrow for an installation bid.
Bummer! :grumpy:
psyshack 10-19-2005, 05:22 PM Spray them with some liq. wrench. Let them soak for about 1 hour on a cold engine. Then take a punch and a small hammer. Pop the nuts or bolt on a flat a few times. Not hard,,, just hard enough to get some vibration thru them and take off.
RTexasF 10-19-2005, 05:27 PM Hey Buddy.
Been there, done that, no budge, no move!!!!!! Even torched them to no avail. Another problem is I have to re-use some of the hardware so some items require care.
psyshack 10-20-2005, 03:55 AM Bummer :(
Get all new hardware. Then get Barbaric with it. Then use high temp antisieze when it goes back together. Like it would kill a auto maker to use the stuff when they build.
Ive never had problems with Asian cars exhaust bolts or nuts. Its always been the American iron that has given me fits.
RTexasF 10-20-2005, 05:56 PM Took it to a place today for an estimate. Estimate a bit high in my opinion but the shop has a very good record.
I'll be there @ 8AM tomorrow for the install. It's only about 10 miles from here but I'll need to leave at 7am in order to make it on time. Traffic here & everywhere else, just bites.
Mv774 10-21-2005, 10:41 AM so... how do you like them?
RTexasF 10-21-2005, 11:22 AM VERY pleased! Gains are across the board with mid & upper RPM affected most. I did not reset the computer, I'll let it figure things out over the next hundred miles or so.
The torque increase is quite noticeable, higher gears pull more readily and less throttle is required than before.
I LIKE IT!
Once I'm through playing boy racer I'm certain my MPG will increase to boot.
ericrwalker 10-21-2005, 11:30 AM I have been reading your thread here and I kept wondering why someone would put this on their car. I can see now that you are saying it gives more power and better gas mileage? Really? why is that and how much does something like this cost?

RTexasF 10-21-2005, 11:38 AM eric,
An engine is nothing more than an air pump. Once restrictions from intake & exhaust are removed or lessened, it's more efficient at it's job because it can "breathe" easier.
Pricing varies widely, google it and you'll see what I mean.
ericrwalker 10-21-2005, 11:53 AM Will google it, maybe ebay it too. Thanks

:notworthy schweet!!! I am ordering mine today hopefully. Need to get to the store before it closes!
Mv774 10-21-2005, 12:31 PM so, why didn't you go ceramic?
i know it might be to late now but i think some header wrap would be good i heard SS likes to look nasty after awhile
go to www.summitracing.com and search for THE-11002
RTexasF 10-21-2005, 12:55 PM The ceramic is light steel unlike the SS. I'm in it for the long run. Header wrap voids the warranty.
They likely will discolor but that's why God made metal polish!
Mv774 10-21-2005, 10:14 PM well i never looked at it like that. im suprised that header wrap would void anything
ffiallo 10-21-2005, 11:20 PM Awesome! Would it fit an 05 EX-L sedan A/T? I think I read that it was only for the coupe?? How much did you pay for the header and for the install. Please comment on the mp/gal...
Thanks,
RTexasF 10-22-2005, 01:04 AM As far as I know it will fit but you would need to check with DC Sports. Read my sig....I own a sedan not a coupe.
As I explained to eric earlier in this thread you will need to google for information on pricing and check local shop rates. Plan on about two hours labor.
Estimate $600 to $700 overall.
