I need to direct you to a few places in Louisiana. May change your perspective a bit.
princess 10-23-2009, 10:50 AM Although we live close, I've rarely even been to Houston... it looks better than other big cities I've been to. Wanna see ugly? Drive down I-5 to Disneyland. Actually it's just as ugly if you were to go north from way south to DL too! Graffiti everywhere. Some places are worse when you off the freeway. A few are better. Right in Anaheim, when you can almost smell DL, you're so close...suddenly there's an island of pretty. Clean streets, roadside plants, detailed lights, etc.
I don't see this area as "dirt" at all!! Oddly flat, but not dirt.:D It's just now beginning to brown out, but still has that lush tropical green look I love.
SW Houston area....isn't that from Katy east? Sugarland & west. Or something like that? This whole area, being at an angle throws me off. I'll never get used to the bottom of Galveston being called west instead of south.:dunno:
BlueBlahBleh 10-23-2009, 11:09 AM Welcome!
I visited the beach at Galveston about 15 years ago... it was pretty nasty.
Enjoy the website. This place is a treasure trove of Accord info.
Bowzer 10-23-2009, 11:12 AM Taken last week while at a conference in Galveston...seriously, I DID actually work up until that evening...really. These were at the "bottom" of the island where you can drive all over the beach. (That would be the west end for all you other G-Islanders. :D )
Let me say, with the summer drought now ending with plenty of rain, the mosquito's were doing a great job of making up for lost time in that marsh!
Bowzer 10-23-2009, 11:24 AM Okay...no more thread jacking for me today. My apologies 5thgenaccord, that doesn't happen often. (The rest of you...shhhh!)
princess 10-23-2009, 01:50 PM Galveston hasn't been too bad since we've seen it. Better before IKE. The water is brown though. The beaches get cleaned from time to time now. If they had more public potties/showers/tables/trash cans, maybe the people wouldn't act so primitive.:dunno:
Well, if someone has anything about the south & mean TX....we'll definitely talk TX. So I'm not sure it totally counts as high-jacking...:lmao: Just a TX welcome!!
5THGENACCORD 10-24-2009, 11:13 AM lol its all good... i don't like Galveston.. to nasty, i recommend that next time you wana go to the beach... U might want to try out Surf Side.. and no katy is not part of SW Houston... SW Houston is more of Alief which is where i am from.. and thanks guys! i will enjoy my stay here :)
princess 10-24-2009, 03:22 PM We went down to South Padre last May. It was a bit clearer & the beaches sandier. A long drive just to play for a day though. It only takes about 30 minutes to arrive & park right on the beach where we go at Galveston. I would take anyone with skin that's too sensitive to chemicals....:paranoid:
They have done a lot of cleaning & bulldozing along the shores. There's still some debris from the homes destroyed. We waited MONTHS after IKE to bother touching the water. We'd been there the very first time about 2 weeks before the hurricane. This year the weather was so dry our entertainment was watching trucks & cars get stuck in the sand. It was up to 2' deep from the dry weather.
My Accord has never seen a beach & likely never will.
searich07 10-24-2009, 07:45 PM 5THGENACCORD, welcome to Drive Accord, I lived in Houston back in 1962 - 1968, when Houston was beginning its growth. Went back in 2005 and discovered a town I never knew, a new Houston, it is big. Back in mid 60s I could drive from one side to the other in 20 minutes, it now takes over an hour. I was there when Land where astrodome was just grass land, and only visiible building in immediate area was Shamrock Hilton. Regards
Richard
5THGENACCORD 10-24-2009, 11:05 PM thnx much Sear:thmsup:,and Princess, i cant count the amount of times my car has seen the beach...... i guess i know where to park exactly on the beach lol.. because i never get stuck in the sand on Surfside Beach. but ya, thnx everyone
GTFan712 10-24-2009, 11:35 PM Welcome to DA!
There's tons of people in Texas on here. It seems like the area around DFW is a DA hotspot. We need to get some new members in the Metro Atlanta area. I want a meet.

Vixen89 10-25-2009, 12:32 AM You can always just move out to DFW GT!! LOL
