That might explain why the local Kia dealer runs an ad with a guy in a gorilla suit jumping around in front of a Rio.
Atomic Robot 10-28-2009, 08:08 AM KIA dealers in CLE have done several "buy a Sedona/Sorrento, get a Rio free" deals. I've seen very few Rio models on the road around here, but a decent number of the vans/suvs.
Vixen89 10-28-2009, 08:14 AM Kia is so yuck! Even my dad refused to get me that car, and he drives the 80s lincoln town cars. lol
stevencrosbie 10-28-2009, 08:30 AM Or...you can drive a new Hyundai Genesis sedan and see how crappy the Honda is :)
Gosha 10-28-2009, 08:34 AM I will be going to the dealer to snatch one of those up, trading the accord in. kia is all about performance which I like, looks much more aggressive than my coupe also. Can't go wrong with a kia rio!
Kingfrog 10-28-2009, 09:00 AM Or...you can drive a new Hyundai Genesis sedan and see how crappy the Honda is :)
Somehow I am not at the point where I would even pay over $25K for ANY Hyundai never mind $35k Trade in is still abysmal
aeoporta 10-28-2009, 12:22 PM he he would i ever drive in a kia or hyundai, um no i love my life. heres to driving dirty
08exaccord 10-28-2009, 12:37 PM LOL i wouldnt wana pay over 4,000 for any Hyundai aka Known as a disposable car in my area :), it would drop my self respect and my reputaion in the area haha " man why you driving a hyundai! what happen to the accord" lmao...besides its korean and i would never trust there cars even if it looks better then a mercedes or drives better then a enzo. I just dont like that company or Kia...

Hmm, I think you're in the wrong thread bud haha.
Atomic Robot 10-29-2009, 04:27 AM Or...you can drive a new Hyundai Genesis sedan and see how crappy the Honda is :)
Hyundai quality is vastly better than when they first entered the U.S. market. They learned a lot running WRC back in the early 2000s (I believe they pulled out after 2003). I think it's helped Ford as well.
I know Honda has been into Formula 1 in the past but recently sold their team. Probably never happen, but I'd love to see a Honda WRC team!
catbert430 10-29-2009, 06:34 AM Wow! A car with a base price of $11,495 is not as nice as a car whose lowest base price is $21,995.
That's a real revelation.
ry05coupe 10-29-2009, 11:09 AM This thread was a joke. Ofc these two cars don't compare, I just wanted to put everything into perspective for people and make a little fun of kia.
Way to point out the hidden difference between the two cars. :thumbsdow

FWIW, Hyundai/Kia will likely rival Toyota, Honda, and others for sales globally in the generations to come. Innovation/engineering/technology will remain far from Korean ambitions, but reliability/dependability & cheap/inexpensive will be their hallmark towards taking claim of market-share. . .
stevencrosbie 10-29-2009, 05:44 PM While many of Hyundai's vehicles follow that trend, the Genesis sedan does not (new V8 Honda can't decide to make...).
I don't think much about the 8th generation is all that Class leading or innovative. Remember, Honda followed Hyundai's lead in warranty length, stability control, side airbags, and a few other standard features in the Sonata.
It is about value and to me, Hyundai provides a lot of value for the vehicle. Much more than Toyota or Honda.
I'm not the only one moving to Hyundai's band wagon.

While this speaks of Ford....we all can see that Hyundai is the only company who is radically gaining customers while the others all lose....
The percentage of Ford's married buyers has gone up only 4%, while the percentage of college graduates has remained flat.
At fast rising Hyundai, by comparison, its share of college grads has jumped 37%, and 70% of its buyers are married now, vs. 57% a decade ago.
Osiris_x11 10-29-2009, 06:42 PM stevencrosbie, point-being I don't need you nor no one else on D.A. telling me how "crappy" my Honda is, ok? I bought it. If it is, then I surely don't belong here. I wish for you to realize the spirit of what a forum and a community is. Apparently you have failed in doing so. If you disagree, point something out to prove him wrong.

Yeah The Hyundai is a great value, no doubt......IF you never trade it in and drive the wheels off of it...When trade in values rival the Hondas and Toyotas of the world I would seriously consider paying more than $15K for a Hyundai.

lol, you are dead wrong. This IS an ANONYMOUS BULLETIN BOARD! Just about every forum on the internet is. If you are so offended just remember this is the interwebs and all you have to do is click the red X.
The spirit of a forum is to help and be help in addition to facilitating open discussion about any topic pertinent to the community. In this case the thread is poking fun at the countless complaints of forum members about their accords.

shogun 10-30-2009, 10:23 AM I've driven the RIO as a rental just to get me to the airport & back (cheapest rental rate). The vehicle is definitely for buyers who want a new car but don't have the $$ for anything better. It reminded me of the YUGO!

FWIW, stevencrosbie is a very good friend of mine, and we don't always jive w/ each other regarding social/political/D.A. issues. It doesn't change the fact that we both have lots of respect & regards towards each other & that we may agree to disagree on occasion. And yes, we express such to each other w/o recourse as that's what true friends do.

...
Until you sell it or trade it in. ....The more people buy them the less they will be worth down the line..Hyundai is a car to keep for 10 years then throw away. In that regard it is a great value.....But $40K for a Hyundai is a bit hard to swallow even if they use real wood....It's not a quality issue it's a PERCEPTION issue.
Honda and Toyota can put out crap for the next few years and still retain their coveted "reliability" perception and resale value which becomes even greater the longer you keep them...

Exactly, Kia's and Hyundai's might be great cars, offering great warranties for great prices, but I would never buy one! The last time I drove a Kia I was not the least bit impressed, it was a Optima/Magentis LX 4-cylinder. I had it on one of the worst winter days of the year, front wheel drive, no traction control.. There is a large hill close to my house and on bad days some cars can't get up it without sliding all over the place.. I always thought those people were idiots without snow tires, or just idiots in general.. I was one of those idiots.. the Kia was sliding all over the road, sliding back.. NOT SAFE

So you like the "across the pond" Accord better then the North American Accord.
Interesting....
wardenr 11-15-2009, 08:43 AM To All:
I vividly remember the first Hyundai Excel. Bottom price-tier entry, reasonably rugged, but a poor performer; just a throw-away, with no residual value. Many of my mechanic friends flatly refused to work on any Hyundai, sarcastically joking about them as an "Asian Yugo."
Things have changed, involving a paradigm shift, especially after the marriage of Hyundai and Kia. The Koreans have become very SERIOUS...about challenging the Japanese, head on. While not an SUV fan, the little Kia Sportage is very attractive...to those who don't want to fork out significantly more $$$$...on a CR-V or RAV4. Many of my neighbors have the new Hyundai Sonata...and are absolutely thrilled to death with it. After looking at these cars, I must say the materials and workmanship are most impressive.
Japan, Inc...you'd better wake up and smell the coffee. The "new kids on the block" have a game plan you may find tough to beat. :D

I do not doubt your post at all..
I would consider a Hyundai (Genisis 4 door) if and when their reputation equals Toyota and Honda and resale is respectable. I looked, but did not drive, the Genesis Couple but at 44 years old I don't want a car that screams midlife crisis. It is a little too much on sport and not so much on refined and in my opinion is trying to look more "exotic" than it is. Kind of like those fake expensive watches sold on street corners in NYC.
Honda Accord Couple and even the G37 doesn't present the same "image" of fake sports car for a guy at mid life. For the young and the Scion targeted customer, the car works very well......Then again I would not buy a Corvette at 55 either.

Stock tires = sucky snow performance. A good all-season or snow tire would have solved this, not any fault of Kia.
inspire08 11-17-2009, 09:44 AM BMW, Mercedes Benz, Honda, Acura , Kia, Hyundai they're all material things>(STATUS) replaceable>>> but not your love ones.

It had studs on it! Any car I ever purchase will have some sort of anti-slip/traction control. One good thing I can say about the Kia was it was good on gas.
Dreamacre 11-17-2009, 10:12 AM KIA/Hyundai need a great reputation for at least 20 years (like Honda), for me to even consider one. My son HAD a 2005 Kia Rio and it was a piece of crap.
If you like them, go for it. I think they are Korean JUNK!
I still LOVE our Accords.

ry05coupe 11-21-2009, 11:46 AM Drive a Genesis coupe 2.0T track or 3.8 track and opinions will change
Have you driven one of these? My father bought a brand new one, and traded it in 6 months later taking a $7000 hit on it. He didn't even care, just wanted to get rid of it. It was inferior in quality, had a clunky gear box, had NO pick up in 1st or 2nd, and for some reason held the revs 2-3 seconds after you shifted gears making it impossible to shift smoothly.
The car was and still is junk.
This was a 2.0T FWIW

samsonskeg 11-21-2009, 03:48 PM Im driving an 09 Saturn Aura right now and it sucks
Upset w/ Honda 11-21-2009, 03:48 PM I just washed/clayed/wax my door jamb areas today for the first time in 1.5 years. It was so nice outside. I also put the front end up on ramps and inspected a few things underneath. I may see about getting some shin-etsu grease to lube the door seals soon.
In terms of the underbody, there is a plastic shield that is in place. I was wondering where the AC condenser is? I could only find two sizable cut-outs in the plastic shield. Through those cut outs, I think i was looking at the bottom of the tranny case and I could see a pulley and belt through the other large cutout. (I don't have my service manual yet ;) ) It looks like everything is well protected under there.
Anyway, I love my Accord more each day and when I put more effort into keeping her clean and maintained! Love hurts! (and takes effort and patience:thmsup:)
anAccord? 11-24-2009, 06:13 PM It's the body lines. Near perfection. :)

fastball 03-12-2010, 03:01 PM I may see about getting some shin-etsu grease to lube the door seals soon.
I have a tube of this that I bought to lubricate the moonroof tracks on my Prelude a few years ago...... can it really be used to keep the rubber door seals supple? I thought grease is no good for rubber, that it can deteriorate it over time.
Please shed some light on this :)
ry05coupe 03-12-2010, 03:46 PM This is actually the fix that Honda gave us for creaky windows/doors.
