This week I started to notice the smell of gas when I would back into my driveway. I also realized that I no longer had a positive pressure on the gas tank when I would open up the filler. I use to get a fair amount of "swish" when I would remove the cap (I believe it was pressure, but it could have been vacuum), regardless, it's gone.
Any ideas why. Could there be a problem with the charcoal canister? How does the tank get pressurized/vacuum drawn on it anyway. Thanks.

Gas caps can and do wear out over time, you can just grab a new one at an auto parts store if the seal on your old one has worn out. I would also check the non-fuel lines heading to the tank.

You've likely got the issue you mention...else a faulty gas cap. There is ALSO a recall action on the Gen Three gastanks...due to ventilation pipe corrosion that can occur in areas that involve highly-salted Winter roads.

Hmmm, seems this cap has no vent or spring loaded seal. Seems more like an old radiator cap than a gas cap. I haven't inspected the condition of the rubber seal, perhaps it's OD'd:thumbsup: Seemed to go from a lot to NOTHING. Again I'm still not sure if it's pressure or vacuum because I don't know how it's generated.

Did I mention probable cause, because I'm with out a clue. Oh well, do you think I would be able to see the corrosion on the vent pipe from below the vehicle? I'm not hip on off gassing explosive gases, not to mention it's down right expensive:paranoid:

My 87 Accord rusted out the fill pipe twice in the 17 years I had it. Repaired by Honda both times- no charge. It was difficult to see other than the rust stains where the pipe connected to the white quarter panel. If the rust gets real bad water starts getting in the tank.

Hmmm, so should I drop by the Honda dealer and tell them I think it's rusted out and see what they do? That would be awesome. It certainly would sway my next new car purchase! I just love my Accord. It's old, has personality, is paid for, unbelievably CHEAP insurance, 35mpg, everything works, 4 people can ride, decent trunk... Opps, off soap box.
It's funny, two people have offered to buy it because it's so old and they believe I'd like an upgrade... That's always a fun conversation, when I'm done they're prepared to double their offer:lmao:, doesn't matter... it's not for sale!
