View Full Version : Traditional Car Bra........
Kingfrog 10-30-2009, 05:55 PM I know there is a clear bra thread but i was wondering if anyone is using a traditional Bra. The reason I ask is I am not sold on the clear bra as a protectant against anything more than a sandblasting.
I only out on about 500 miles a month on a car and Im thinking of getting a good traditional car bra and install it only for long trips where I would be traveling on a freeway.
So far I have not found many choices for a quality bra for the Accord Coupe.
Having a black car the normal black Car bra should not affect the look all that much although that is the least of my concerns on a long trip following a dump truck or flatbed...
honeygee2 10-30-2009, 06:16 PM Do not put a traditional bra on the car. I had one on my accord and when it was taken off the paint under it was scuffed. It will hold water and grime under it. When you wash the car the soap stays under there and you cant wash it all out without taking it off. The bra I had was made by honda specifically for the car I owned a 2008 accord. At 70 mph the front hood piece would flop up and down in the airflow. A bra is a good idea for a short period of time like love bug season in Florida.
just02 10-30-2009, 06:43 PM Use a clearbra and put painters tape over it? haha I'm just kidding, sort of.
Traditional bras do more damage then good for the most part. Don't even bother with one.
my08accord 10-30-2009, 06:55 PM +1 to theses guy don't do it!!!
wizputer 10-30-2009, 07:10 PM The previous owner have my car had the half nose mask.. the paint has scuffs/scratches from it :(
Kingfrog 10-30-2009, 07:21 PM YEah Thanks... I was only going to use it for long trips.....But yeah putting something ugly on a car to keep it from getting ugly and then becoming ugly anyway makes little sense.........
I will just live with the few chips that will ultimately appear....The first one hurts the most...
This is one reason i usually buy used. Someone else already suffered the first door ding or rock hit........:lmao:
Stephen83 10-30-2009, 07:21 PM Kingfrog, I failed to understand what your point was on the first post...?
Was your intent to:
1. want us to to convince and get you to be sold on why the clear bra is superior?
2. give you reasons not to use a traditional bra?
3. help you look for a quality traditional bra?
Have you looked at the factory accessory?? This is straight from the Honda website:

Im sorry for not being clear... I have decided not to go with a clear bra as I don;t have confidence in the people that do that kind of work here and I don't drive enough to need permanent protection as the roads are pretty benign around here as far as trucks and rocks go. I do make long trips on occasion though and I though putting one on temporarily for the trip might be a good option.
I was wondering if anyone was using one and what the pluses and minuses were. Are there things to look for when selecting one that will make a difference? Is it even a viable solution or dies it create more problems..
That's pretty much it..
Seems the consensus is they cause more damage then they protect...
next_milenium 10-30-2009, 07:38 PM +1 on NOT using a traditional bra. It does more harm than good.
If you are concerned about getting chips long road trips, try to not follow other cars too close, especially larger cars and trucks. I've practiced that and after over a year, I have virtually no chips in front of my car.

That is true.
But given YOUR driving conditions as described, it MAY be a good choice to go for traditional as long as you take it off immediately and then wash the front end and the bra before putting it back on. If you're gonna get traditional, get the one from Honda cuz it was designed to fit perfectly.
Before everyone bashes my recommendation, it is only ok for Kingfrog's description of his driving circumstances. Otherwise for every other person, I stress clear bra!
This is coming from a guy that had clear bra, me.

I'm sure there is a support group for this type of stuff on
the internet in this day and age :D
You set it up.....:naughty:
]-[ien 10-30-2009, 08:31 PM Clear bra is by no means permanent protection, it can easily be removed.

And thats exactly what I had on my accord. It scuffed the paint underneath and its a PIA to get on and off.
