:thumbsup:For anyone who wants to DIY adding the OEM rear trunklid spoiler I have the Honda trunklid spring removal/replacement tool. A heavier duty spring (included in the parts) is needed to have the trunk open properly once the spoiler is installed.

I offer the tool to anyone with the forum needing it and ask only my shipping cost be reimbursed. Similarly, I would ask that once finished to please offer it to others with the forum in the same manner.

The job is not for the faint of heart but can be accomplished professionally by studying the instructions carefully, checking and rechecking at each step, and studying closely the College Hills video for this job several times which shows the installation process in a Honda dealership shop. It will save you a bunch of cash DIY. Check the instructions closely to be sure you have the necessary tools especially the drill bits. I had to convert the US size to Metric and while not being exact it was within 1-2 mm and worked fine.

While others like using and had great success using the 3M tape process, I chose to bolt my spoiler onto the vehicle knowing it cannot come off. Just my preference for peace of mind.

Since we now have he '08, '09, and now the '10 models perhaps there are some who wish to take on this job. It is quite satisfying once completed. Just go slow and methodical and you will have a professional job.

I bought the OEM Honda sedan deck lid as well and only the OEM package comes with trunk spring, and there is no way that you can mount the deck lid with 3M tape because the bolts are molded in and can't be twisted out like the coupe.

I installed mine myself, but still can't figure out the swap of trunk spring without the tool. Having the JDM inspire reflectors now, the trunk almost dont raise and stay put when I hit the keyless entry.

I might be interested in the tool also, where did you get it?

There is a lot of discussion about mounting with 3M tape which perhaps is aimed mainly at the coupe. I realize the bolts are molded in but you cut them off easily and grind down the nub. Not something I would suggest doing but as I said a lot of discussion has been made.

Suggest you get into the trunk lying down on your back flat looking up at the spring set-up. It is a little awkward to do but not hard. Sugget you study the set up and then go to College Hills Honda website and find the spoiler installation video and study (back and forth) the part of the video where the tech does the removal of the stock and installs the heavy duty spring. Getting the stock one off is pretty easy but the heavy duty one takes some muscle to twist it into the mount. The tool he uses is the one I have which is pretty essential to the job.

Hope this helps.

Got it from Bernardi (Bernardiparts.com).

Just let me know. It makes installing the heavy duty spring a lot easier but it does take some muscle to twist it into the mount correctly. Don't know how to do it otherwise so bit the bullit and bought the tool. Worth the $30.

Can I ask if the spring tool is currently 'available' to borrow, or will it be in about 2 weeks? Thanks!

Glenn, thanks for the use of the trunk spring tool! I may have been able to remove the old spring without it (with a lot of fighting) but I never would've gotten the new one back on.

Whoever needs the spring removal tool next, please post here and/or shoot me a PM and I'll get it sent out.

I could of used that tool when i installed my deck lid spoiler.. Taking off the old spring and placing the new was the hardest part, without that tool.

Is the heavy duty spring ideal for the Inspire trunk garnish mod?

It would help make the trunk pop up since the Inspire trunk is heavier than the spoiler. Maybe not as high as if it's just the spoiler.

I recommend getting the spring from the wing spoiler as that spring should be firmer than the deck lid spring.

The USDM pedestal spoiler (referred to as "Wing spoiler" in the install manual) comes with both right and left heavy duty replacement springs.

The USDM lip spoiler (referred to as "Low spoiler") comes with only one heavy duty spring, for the right side.

The right is marked with red, the left with yellow. The part numbers are not listed in the install literature, but members here have been able to order it from the CHH parts department.

Also, there are additional rubber bumpers to stick on near the two already on there. I don't know if they are the same as OEM or different.
