ordered my touch up paint for my accord last weekend and they said it would be here tomorrow (monday) I think when i put the car in the parking lot, an attendant chipped my paint on the edge of my door. :thumbsdow ). So now I have to touch it up (its right on the edge of the door) anyone have specific tips on this type of "chip"? and also some other scratches on the car that are on the surface. Any tips on those kinds of scratches? Just wanna do it the best way possible without leaving bloches of paint and make it look as close as possible to when it was new. Once i fix the chipped edge... door edge guards are goin right over it. thanks in advance!

If you have bare metal, apply primer.

Make sure the surface is CLEAN and you do it in broad daylight, not when it's cold and excessively humid or dark.

Apply several thin coats over the course of a few days, let it dry thoroughly. Bring it up to the level of the scratch and apply clearcoat (you got a clearcoat pen too, right?)

Then when it dries it should be barely noticeable.

It will be noticeable without clearcoat so just make sure you do that last important step.

I remember I1 had used the langka blob eliminator kit with good results too, you may want to look at that.

I bought a set of pens (paint, primer, clear coat) from paintscratch.

For the blob eliminator, do a search for "langka" and I'm sure I1's posts will come up.

the langka bloib eliminator kit is great!! i1 let em purchase and try before he bought. :lmao: when i bought it, i could only find it on langka's site. i noticed it on some broader detailing sites the other day though when i was surfing for some more car care products.

it was pretty easy to use and makes a normal touch up job look 110% better than just old conventional methods. i REALLY have to search to find the few spots i've done, and that says ALOT. ;)

If you're planning on putting an edge guard over the chip anyway, why are you stressing over the chip.. Just clean and cover it up with enough paint so there's no bare metal visible, then put the door edge guard over it... Edges are one of the hardest areas of a car to make a touch-up look just right... I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. If you are getting paint chips on the hood or other areas, then that's a different story.... :)

John, you misunderstood me.. I'm not telling you to leave it alone and just put the edge guard over it.. I'm trying to say it's going to be covered anyway, so I wouldn't spend too much time trying to make the touch up paint smooth and blended in with the rest of the door. :) You should paint the chip no matter what. :)
