For a long time I was curious about the Purolator vs. Mobile 1 filter. I took two and cut them open this weekend. Based on what I see, I think Purolator may be better. Mobile 1 has 52 pleats and Purolator has 59 pleats and is taller which translate to more surface area. i can not say anything about the filter media itself.

If you change oil regularly the difference probably isn't noticeable but I have been using Purolator PureOne since I've been doing my own changes. Wouldn't use anything else.

Purolator has more less quality media.

I will take the M1 and probable better flow.

The media in the Mobile 1 is stiffer.

I think a PureOne vs Mobil 1 would be a more "apples-to-apples" comparison as opposed to a Classic vs M1.

From a cost perspective, a P1 would more than suffice for the average OCI of 5000-7500 miles.

P1 at Kmart is around $6.
M1 is around $10-$12

I agree with ya my friend. Pureone FTW 10 bucks + free shipping on amazon FTW. I run the filter with redline syn since it has diester. Good stuff

I don't like the standard Purolator, but I do like the Purolator Pure One.

The Purolator classic may have more pleats, but it has a much lower quality media element than the Mobil 1.

For those that aren't using Mobil 1 filters because of their price, just wait for a sale at Autozone. You can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter for $30, or 5 quarts of Mobil 1 EP and a Mobil 1 filter for $35.

I've been using Purolators since 1998. Regular Purolators are the best mainstream bang for your buck filter. P1's are the best filtering filter. I use P1's in my Accord and Wife's civic. M1 filters are good, but way overpriced for what you're getting. K&N's are overpriced and geared more for race cars with high pressure pumps and lots of flow; not daily drivers. Wix/Napa gold/Carquest are good also, but very expensive and on smaller filters sacrafise filtering media due to the bypass design. Wix Silvers are Ok, but for the price you can get a White purolator which is better IMO. Fram/"fill in blank of quickie oil lube" filter **** totally. Never use a orange or quick lube filter. White or gold Purolator and call it a day. I've been round and round this on many many cars since '98 and always come back to the white or gold Purolators. However if you have a cartridge filter, like in a 6.0 Diesel ford, or 2.4L GM, use the OEM filter. IE Ford, AC delco. normally those cartridge filters have to be spot on and only the OEM's have the rights or whatever.
