The other day while out & about when I was leaving a parking lot there were some "kids" in a little black CRX eyeing my new car. The attention was mainly because she happened to be parked next another '03 Accord in the same color. A different model, LX, I think.
The kids had taken a different route out of the lot & we ended up both being first at a light. They had a manual were revving loudly. Well, I have a VERY hard time resisting a challenge. I hesitated slightly when the light turned green to make sure they really were making a challenge. They definately were!!
This old lady passed them as if they were just checking out the scenery! They ended up slowing down & did "who me? I wasn't even trying...." thing.
I turned & at another light was a Civic. Really pretty! They'd put a lot of time into it's looks. He music was thumping & he was revving. ( Now mind you I'm listening to Disney stuff on my CD & trying really hard to ignore the fact that this stuff makes the heart pitter patter.)
The light changed, & he was squealing away leaving a small cloud of smoke from the burning rubber on the road. I never even looked at him. I just PUNCHED IT. Gone. I went passed & never looked back.
I love my 240 HP!!
This isn't how I normally run my errands, but when someone is so blantantly asking to see what she can do..... well, who can resist??
Ok, now you know why I can't get good gas mileage!!! (hey, I've never had her over 115 mph.)
Now tell me a recent story of yours. Keep 'em true!

Sorry no good car story from me, but I did blowaway a Porche Boxster on my Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R and we punched it when we were already doing 110. Granted my power to weight ratio was a lot higher than his and mine will do 185. OK, maybe it's a little crazy as an "adult" parent of a grown kid, but like you said, I couldn't resist. :D

See, "the need for speed" is just there! I like that I can pass without any sweat at normal (75mph) freeway speeds. It just goes.......
I bet there's more out there......
My daughter's ex HAD (he wrapped it around a tree) BMW 325 series. He was always telling my grandson it was faster than my '02. When I got the '03 the kid asked if it was faster than daddy's BMW. "No competition!" The car is part of it, but the driving is another & what I couldn't say to the grandson is that his daddy is an idiot driver. Then he proved it by having a single car accident due to being under the influence...

My favorite story is the time I beat a Corvette in my '95 Accord. Granted it was a Corvette (Late 80's??) that needed some TLC, it definitely was not pushing all the horsepower it should have been (obvious since I beat it in my Accord). Anyway, we pulled up to a light and this 'vette next to us was reving and looking at us like they wanted to race. I knew I would lose but didn't have anyone in the car that I cared about impressing so decided to take the challenge. The 'vette pulled off the line quicker, but by the time we were across the 4 lane intersection I was already gaining. My engine was roaring with the intake and all, and the 'vette was even louder, you could tell the guy was giving it all he had. I end up blowing him away by several car lengths by the end of the next block. He pulls up to the next light, and while his girl in the seat next to him is looking at us like -- WHOA -- he refuses to look at us and ends up sitting at the light after it turns green for a bit, not that I was going to race again anyway. You could tell he was really imbarrased that his girl had seen. I felt like a champ, and almost every time I talk to the friend I was with he brings it up, he was pretty impressed.

See sometimes it's not who or what is doing the challenging, just the fact they are!
Living in the bay area.....way east..... there's all kinds here. Some rich kids with more money than brains, some kids that are really into speed, some are after a car that will just look nice. In my years I've learned the ugly cars can be the fastest. The owner often puts money into the speed & not so much into the looks.
Either way it's sure fun to be the winner!
We have 2 places nearby that you can actually LEGALLY drag race. I've never gone though.
One of these days........:p

A couple of months ago my prince had to go to a nearby college in a town about 20 miles away. He drove his Pilot. The road between here & there has a nice curvy stretch that goes around a lake. He was pleased with the way the Pilot handled.
One of the nights he decided to take my '02 Accord. He said the drive even more fun in it. The lower body made it funner in the turns.
Then when we bought the '03 we decided to explore a little reservor in that same town. The trip home was made on that same road he'd been driving for school. He didn't think he could be more pleased than he was in his Pilot until he drove the '02, & thought that was great. The '03 took the same corners with much better handling. Since then he TRIES to lay claim to MY car! He really LOVES his Pilot, but the Accord is funner to drive!

This morning I was just driving along to a nearby town. At a light that's got 2 left turn lanes that put you on a street that goes WAY UP HILL! (The place most locals do their test drives) I was honestly planning on just tootling along. Well.... beside me was a brand new silver Passat. The woman driving was being encouraged by her son (about 10) to "step on it". I lagged back for the straight away. I could see the kid's hands moving, still trying to get mom to GO. She did. I still stayed in the other lane, a couple of lengths behind. On the uphill she was definately trying. So I finally used my gas pedal. On the other side we were again side by side at a light & "mom" didn't look happy, but the kid gave me a thumbs up. (Yes, I'm sure it was his thumb!)
Now I don't know VW's so I have no idea what model(trim) this may have been. I do know that she was struggling to get to 85 mph on that grade.
I love my car!!!

Let's see, you're from California, anywhere near Pasadena? Was there a 60's song written about you? You know, the one about "shuttin em down".:)

Sorry I'm a northerner. ;)
My kids loved that song though, (when they finally head it) Not "the little ol' lady from Pasadena".....although I do go to Disneyland about every 7 weeks or so!
I used to tell everyone that when I was a teenager I was debating between 2 careers: social worker with "under priviledged" kids or a race car driver.
Thanks to my own bunch I got to do both! I had to race them to school, a 10 minute drive in 3 minutes. And ask any of them, they certainly THOUGHT they were under priviledged!

The day after Xmas, when coming home from Fresno.......
We were at a light in Lodi. A silver S2000 pulled up beside us. My Prince was driving. When the S2000 was revving I figured we'd just be passed & follow it becasue the 2 lanes were going into one. Prince isn't as challenged by revving as me. But NO. My head was bopped back as he stepped on the gas & squeaked as he lurched us ahead!
The S2000 stayed back at the next light!
You do need to keep in mind before you start in on the disbelief.... I don't know how old the S2000 was. If new it's the same HP as the Accord has now, but older ones had less. It was likely an older one, but it sure perked me up after a long drive!
Have I told you lately how much I love my car???:D

princess, in no way am i trying to disrepect your highness :) but i would like to point out that even the "older" s2000's have the same HP as our cars which is 240hp.... on the other hand the 2004 s2000's have a bigger displacement of 2.2 liters which also puts out 240 ponies BUT with increased torque :)

Hey now, you took away his excuse!!!!
hahaha sorry... but yea s2000's have crappy low end torque... people call it the "torqueless wonder" i believe it has almost the same amount of torque that a civic has before the s2000 hit's vtec :) oh yes... and i forgot to mention in the other post the new s2000's are a little faster due to the increased torque :) so you were half correct

Yeah, after I saw what you said, I looked it up. I had assumed it was a HP difference, but it was torque. The older ones had to be at about 8300 rpm to get their best HP. The newer ones aren't quite as bad. It was still fun to leave 'im behind! I do view some of these Civic's that have been modified as more of a challenge. But an experienced driver can blow that too!

I've had my 02 Accord V6 EX Sedan 135 mph on the interstate. Not racing anyone just trying it out like I do on all my cars. It took forever to go from 120 to 135. It stayed at 135 for an eternity & that's it - no governor. Is this the top speed? Those 1 mile exits were going by pretty quick.

There's been talk of a top speed of 128 & 132. but you went beyond that. See, you can't believe all the rumors! Are you still happy with the "out of the hole" your car has? That's my favorite part. Well, that & how she handles the curves. And the comfort.
I still don't like the headrests. I tried putting them in backwards & that didn't help. So I put them in right again. They just don't feel right for me!

I just noticed there was a thread asking about top speed. Sorry!
I am very happy with the get-up-and-go and creature comforts of my EX V6. I guess it depends on a person's perspective. I am driving my wife's old 94 Poncho Grand Am GT. It rattles & the seats are anything but comfortable. Guess who drives the Honda now? I drove 225 miles/day to work for 7 months & started having back problems b/c of the seats. Suffice it to say the Accord is awesome. It's my 1st new car. I am very happy with the decision we made.

A few weeks ago I was coming froma 30mph zone into a 55mpf zone next to a mid 90s corvette. Now I know under most circumstances the Vette would spank me, but we were in a mid range power situation, a 30mph roll, which my 03V6 coupe shines at. My car is an automatic, so I manually put into 2, so as to keep the revs up a bit to help get a jump once we hit the 55 zone. I was directly next to the vette, and as soon as we hit the 55 zone, I saw the back of the vette squat a little and I knew he was running me. I punched it, started to pull on him and then all of a sudden I feel this thump thump thump. I look at the tach, and I had forgotten i put it into 2 and I was hitting the rev limiter!!! That engine is so smooth and quiet, I didnt even realize it was beyond the redline. Thank god for the rev limiter. I was impressed that I started to pull on him though. I thing I could have pulled him up to about 75mph, then he would have started to walk away, but from 30 to 55, he never gained an inch :)
It was fun anyways.

kewl!
I've never bothered shifting....so far it seems they have enough humf without it out of the hole. My prince has done the already moving "leave them in the dust", but I can't recall if he shifted.
I love my car!
i got spanked by am M3 today... one of the newer ones 01-04 body style i think... i gunned it and i guess he decided to put me in my place which was in his rear view mirror hahaha....

eeewwww.... I have an ATTITUDE about BMW's. Nothing to do with the cars....I've known some owners that this planet could do without!
300 HP would likely "spank" most of our Accords!!
I am VERY respectful of some of the OLD muscle cars. I got thoughly beat by a '67 Chevy SS. I don't know what he had in it, but I might as well have been walking!
:)
yup... 343hp RWD monster... i will be receiving one from my parents as a college graduation gift hopefully

As for the seats in the Accord, I don't find them very comfortable. I loved the seats in the old '86 Accord and the '97 Camry, but the '99 Accord man it's crap to me. I thought it was just me being 6'2" but then my mom mentioned it the other day and shes only 5'6" so it can't just be me.
An M3 for a college grad gift? SPOILED BRAT! lol j/k

raff, your parents don't like you or something??
I'm sure we all have a car that's the one we'd feel "spoiled" owning.... I feel that way about my Accord. It's what I wanted!!:)
