: Idiot Cell Phone Talking A-Hole
Accord4Life 11-05-2005, 08:15 PM The Pictures Speak for themselves. My car is ruined.
As I drive down my street, my neighboor was on her cell phone, and she pulled straight out of her garage without looking and there I was...a Screech..and boom later this happened. My Side and Frnot bags deployed. I have a burn from the side bag. She was driving a 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 I hit her rear quarter panel but all of the side bags in her car deployed. The curtain, and the seat. My estimate was $8,965. And seeing as I already had my car roll down a hill before and cause $6,200 of damage, it's a total. A shame though, I am expecting to get 13,000 for it. But I will DEFINETLY be getting some money from my stupid ass neghibor for my medical visit, and allergy issues (Airbag powder that I inhaled). I am so frustrated it's not even funny, I worked my butt off for that car, and now its on it's way to the scrap pile...sigh... My ABS Never worked though, and this happened at about 40mph?
Well, al least I have my 96' and 89' accords to drive until I figure out if I am buying another Accord. But then again, I am 'Accord 4 Life'...
Oh and a note on the pics. They belong to the salvage yard, so don't copy and paste them anywhere.
SSMV6 11-05-2005, 09:08 PM At least you're ok. That's the best part about it. I would definately seek medical reimbursments. That looks like it hit your neighbor's car square on the side!
What happened the first time when your car rolled down the hill? I presume it's an MT.

Mhm. It's a Stick. I waited 6Months for them to find an EXL - 5spd. Moving on, I was one day out and about looking at real estate. And I finally found exactly what I was looking for, I sat in my car for about 5min and wrote down some info about the place. Then, I decided I'd go take a peek at the place. So I turned the car off, and seeing as it had been about 7min now, I guess I forgot that I was still in neautral. (Doh!) At this spoint I would say I was on pretty level ground, and on the edge of a very steep hill. I got out of the car and whilie I was walking around I heard the sound of rolling tires, and I then heard the sound of boom! I quickly when to see what it was and it was my baby, she slid right into an industrial sized dumpster, and then bounced off of it and hit a tree. Thankfully, after living in San Francisco, I have a habbit of 'Curbing' the wheels and they just kindof slid down the crub and the when a driveway came by they went up, or should I say 'down' the driveway, and into the dumpster. When that happened I basically had to have the WHOLE front clip done. The windsheild fenders hood bumper, everything. I guess my estimate is higer this time around because more things you can't see have been damaged. Thankfully I'm not.
SSMV6 11-06-2005, 06:44 AM Luckily you ran into the side of her car. If it was the other way around, then you may have been seriously injured. BTW, what happened to the other driver? Did she get any injuries?
edwilson13185 11-06-2005, 08:26 AM Considering that you were going 40 miles per hour, though, it looks like your Accord held up extremely well. Of course there's more damage than meets the eye, but it looks like the crush zone did its job perfectly.
Very glad you're ok, but also sorry to hear about your car. Insurance stuff can be a pain. :thumbsdow
psyshack 11-06-2005, 08:35 AM Thats horrible. I would get a lawyer on her soooo fast. That cell phone would cost her big time money when my shizter lawyer was done with her. I for the life me cant understand why they have become so bloody important to so many people. Mines setting on the kitchen table turned off. Bet I dont use it 60 mins a month if that. I wish thay would write felony class tickets to people that talk on phones and drive at the same time.
Saw a idiot friday in his benz all smug with his bluetooth fired up talking a cell that looked like a laptop >>> thing was huge. Had his ear peice with short boom mike on and was multitasking while on the turnpike driving 55 mph in the hammer lane in a area with a speed limit of 75 mph. I wanted to take that boom mic and cram it in his ear hole untill it stoped and then twist. :naughty:
Sad thing here even the stupid azz cops drive around talking on there cell phones. :(
Accord4Life 11-06-2005, 04:23 PM Luckily you ran into the side of her car. If it was the other way around, then you may have been seriously injured. BTW, what happened to the other driver? Did she get any injuries?
She is ok. Her Accord is still being evaluated. Although, she like me has burns from the way the Side airbag deploys. I don't know of any aches or pains though. But she is ok. Her Accord held up quite well too. I have a feeling they'll total it. Theres no doubt the frame and suspension are shot.
Well, heres my scenario. I got the check for my Accord from the insurance company. And well, I was slightly higher than my estimated price! $14,653.89.
The cents part was interesting. Well I need to figure out what it's getting replaced with, and soon. I am really looking at that 06; Accord Six Spd... But the TL and TSX are SO close in price. (After my accessories that I'd endup adding to the accord bring up the price that is.)
SSMV6 11-06-2005, 04:55 PM It's good that you got your car totaled and that the ins. company sent you the check already!
If you get a TSX or a TL, you'll get more grunt out of the engine than your EX, but you'll be using premium gas instead of regular. Everything would cost more and you'll probably still end up buying $3000 worth of accessories! If you get an Accord 6MT on the other hand, you'll get a great car with all the toys for about the same price as a TSX w/Navi.
anysia 11-06-2005, 05:01 PM i doubt they'll total hers. i'm thinking you were pretty lucky to get yours totalled! (see my thread from last november when i got rammed by a pickup truck on the highway totalling $9k in damages, frame and suspension problems included.... the car is not right now and will never be right, but there was no way they were going to total it... :bawl: )
sorry to hear about the accident no matter what!! :sorry:
ps~go for a tsx. my latest dream car. hoping to trade in my accord on one soon.

Your opinions please?
OwAce 11-06-2005, 07:24 PM not to mess up this thread but would you be interested in an 04 6spd with nav with under 15k miles? I might be leaving the country and I may need to sell the car really really quick.. :boohoo:
EXLNavi 11-06-2005, 07:34 PM Sorry to hear about it.
Had this been NY or NJ she'd have gotten a violation in addition to being liable for your accident.
Driving and talking on the cell phone without a handsfree is illegal here.

As tempting as it sounds. I REALLY need 4 Doors. Thanks for the offer though.
Accord4Life 11-06-2005, 07:45 PM Owace, what country are you moving to?
OwAce 11-07-2005, 08:43 AM im from pakistan, over here in the US on a work permit (H-1B visa). i may be getting laid off, and if i dont find another job, i have to leave the country. i.e move back to pakistan. i am not looking forward to that. i love this country way to much.
:bawling:
anysia 11-07-2005, 09:00 AM sorry to hear that owace!!! :sorry: so i guess you're looking for a job now to hopefully beat them to laying you off??
hope you can work things out and stick around!!

Ah, sorry to hear that.
I know a few people (well knew, they went back to India now...) who were in your situation.
Good luck but I am not holding out much hope. The H-1B cap is back down to pre-dotcom levels and no one is really interested in transferring H-1's anymore.
But still have hope. What sort of work do you do? I'm right to assume it's I.T., right? What type of I.T. job? If there's anything I come across that you may be interested in I'll pass it along.
Trust me I know the hassles of the INS and it's not easy. I'm glad that chapter of my life is mostly behind my back and I do not envy you...
OwAce 11-07-2005, 10:53 AM I am actually a finance guy. Im a fixed income credit research analyst. so pretty much a wall street guy, cept my dumbass went into the Buy-side straight out of college instead of the sell side. Sell side (investment banking) maybe 90 hour work weeks but you also get paid 125k plus and you get a solid foundation..
lets hope something works out. anysia you want my car? ill do a good price for it. :)
EXLNavi 11-07-2005, 11:02 AM Oh okay, I just saw pakistan and H-1B I figured it had to be I.T....
Oh well best of luck then. I don't think my company hires that many H-1's for finance positions. I know in my division I don't see many of them being direct hires for I.T. (many contractors are H-1's though)
OwAce 11-07-2005, 12:05 PM Oh okay, I just saw pakistan and H-1B I figured it had to be I.T....
LOL...hahaa youd be surprised at the number of pakis/indians on wallstreet/finance jobs these days. :D
would appreciate any help you can get me from your company. :salue:
