Just curious which one everyone uses. Lately my firefox has been acting up on my old XP laptop. Used speedy fox and cleaned some stuff up and it helped.

My newer laptop (Sony) using Vista, uses IE and its dam fast, the load up by far kills Firefox.

Whats your preference? :)

FYI, Thunderbird isn't a browser, it's e-mail software. Mozilla's answer to Outlook.

I prefer Firefox as a web browser (and Thunderbird for my e-mail). At work, I'm forced to use MSIE and Outlook. I'm really coming to hate Microsoft products. They have a bad habit of completely revising their user interface in one fell swoop, so that one upgrade brings with it a learning curve even for the most accustomed users. Bad enough they did it with IE all the time, but I just upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 and I can't even figure out how to print a document anymore. It's a wonder Microsoft has any business left the way they like to do this, because seems to me anytime you make someone have to learn software all over again, they might be tempted to just go ahead and learn your competitors' products instead.

Yep, yep, yeppers.

For now, I'm keeping my Office 2003 + IE 8. The damn things work reasonably well, and I actually know how to USE them! :lmao:

But if MicroSoft ever gets pi**y with me, I'll install and fire up Open Office. It's a FREEBIE clone from Sun MicroSystems. :D

:lmao: I just realized that afterwards, ah well, anyway my firefox is def my preferred just lately its been loading very very slowly, recently hooked my older laptop to my LCD via VGA and i am wondering if its bc its tucked away its over heating thus the slow down,

Either way sometimes i like using IE just to change it up alittle, both have my bookmark icons under the search bar which is a cool feature, driveaccord being one of them of course!

Safari blows, Firefox and IE is a toss up. For me, it depends on the machine I'm on, for whatever reason they behave differently. But both have their shortcomings.
I do agree with nolefan32, nothing ****s more than upgrading and then feeling like an 80 year old trying to use an all-in-on remote with button descriptions in ancient arameic.

I've been using Firefox forever. I've heard that Chrome is a lot faster than Firefox, but Chome lacks the massive addon database that Firefox has. I'd rather keep Adblock Plus and NoScript on Firefox than go to Chrome with nothing.

You are correct. I'd use Firefox, but I don't need all the add-ons and the extra speed is a bonus.

Agree re Firefox and Microsoft products.

Going from one version of a MS product is like going from a Chevy to a Saab: same company, products do the same things (like break down), everything's there, but not where it used to be. Firefox has a more consistent look and feel from generation to generation.

I made the move to Firefox when it was supposedly more secure than IE. I think they're pretty even now, but I just liked Firefox better. I like the Firefox add-ons as well.

For all you Smartphone users, the Opera browser is pretty darn good on that platform. Definitely worth a try.

I've never been able to look at the folks from Redmond in the same way since a co-worker told me "Microsoft" was her nickname for her first husband.

Plus, for now, buying MS Word is problematic:

FYI IE and Safari have the most holes of them all. I'll sacrifice a little speed for a cleaner comp.

I like the way Firefox neatly places your main bookmarks across the top of the screen and a secondary set of bookmarks in the sidebar. I have the main bookmarks abbreviated so I can squeeze the maximum number of bookmarks across the top of the screen (e.g., "DA" for the driveaccord home page, "imdb" for my Internet Movie Database profile, "Doppler" for the regional doppler radar, etc.)

Jeff

Don't forget the bookmark keywords in Firefox. Like for this site, I have "da" as the keyword, so all I have to type in the address bar is "da" and it'll take me straight here. :D

Funny you mention that, that's exactly what I'm going through as well. Since I updated my Firefox to 3.5+ this past summer on my MS XP desktop, my Google/Yahoo take forever to load if I search for something (screen freezes for a long time), and I can't even go from one tab to another while the search is taking place. It's just like the screen is literally frozen. Though, navigating other sites is w/o issue or complaint.

Any ideas, anyone? Bueller, Bueller... Bueller?!? :D

I'll try "speedy fox", hopefully that'll do something about the search-engine freeze. . .

i've found myself using FF a lot more than IE recently. and this is simply because IE8 uses up way more resources than FF does. if i have the option between IE7 and any version of FF, i'll take IE7.

resource hogging aside, i do prefer the layout of IE7/8 significantly better than that of FF. also, i find that many more websites work better in IE7/8 as opposed to FF. I like how IE has that little star across the top for your book marks much better instead of clicking "bookmarks" in the menu bar for FF.

if anybody can tell me a way to make FF look more like IE, tell me please!

To All:

The "Kicker" part about this thread/poll is that it is NON-scientific, purely subjective. At the end of the day, Mr. Gates & Company still run the show, on the world stage. While MS dominance won't last forever, they DO have a suite of products that WORK, extremely well, in the meantime. You just have to choose and tune them, very carefully.

tell that to everybody who's using linux and other open source software.

i know that the military contract company northrop grumman uses mostly open source software according to my insider sources of the company...

I had an HP Pavilion notebook back in 2008, and it was the worst piece of technology I think I've ever owned. With IE, Firefox, and Chrome, it wouldn't open up the browser or load a page before I lost my patience. Now, I've got a Macbook, using Safari, and haven't had any problems for almost a year now.

Go with Safari.

Speaking of nonscientific, remember this next time your hear any polling data:

Latest figures say something like 22% of American households do not have landlines. People are going wireless.

How are polls taken? By phone. By landline.

Item: In 1936, polls had Alf Landon beating FDR. Polls were taken by phone. How many households had phones in a country with roughly 20% unemployment? How did that election turn out?

IE7 on four, IE8 on one. Tried FF some years ago and didn't like it, too many problems. Certainly it has improved over the years.

Duno what it is but lately IE8 has been running very fast (probably due to the newer computer and less programs taking up space) but either way I have it set up now just like firefox and I kinda am diggin it better at this point based on the speed of it alone!

I think it has alot to do with the processing of the browser, if your computer is already loaded up its going to take that much longer to load it, another example is trying to load itunes on my dell (same computer that loads firefox slow) trying to load itunes is also painfully slow, and ive done everything possile to clean and speed things up on that particular machine ... guess its getting old and why shouldn't it be its nearly 8yrs old but still holding its own!

i say you MSCONFIG this laptop of yours and disable all unnecessary start-up programs. also uninstall any unwanted crap such as "view point media player" and browser toolbars which are pointless IMO. if you are more advanced windows user, then disable any unnecessary services through "services.msc".

stuff like this will speed up your computer on an overall level.

Google Chrome all the way, it runs great and is more secure than firefox and IE8. Safari is terrible, Opera...no. Chrome is really customizeable and looks great. I put it on all my comps.

I just got a new laptop and I am using for the first time in years and years Internet Explorer and not Mozilla anymore. I think the latest Internet Explorer is excellent. For some strange reasons, Mozilla wouldnt hold my passwords and log in for sites no matter what I tried. I tried Opera also but that browser is just complicated with way too many features.

What is your favorite browser?

Firefox all day! I've been using Firefox for all my computers since 2006 and haven't touched IE since! I hate it! Well, I was a Netscape nut initially and when Pheonix Tech started concentrating more on Mozilla Firefox and come out with 1.5, I've been using it since. But I became addicted with 2.0 when they introduced tabbed browsing. The browser runs circles around IE.

I have started using Chrome more often, sort of utilitarian for now, but has some pretty decent features...like the interface of Safari but eh, I'll stick with my Firefox. :)

i don't understand FF fanboys. personally, i feel that FF is just as slow as IE is after v3.5.
