EXLNavi 11-16-2005, 05:50 PM Do you have Jack FM where you live?
Do you like it?
We have it here on WCBS 101.1 FM which was an oldies station but went Jack a few months ago. I kinda like their format of "playing what WE want" meaning that they just play everything, a random mix of the old and new, kinda like an MP3 player on shuffle. When I went to Nashville in July I also liked listening to Jack (96.3 FM) since I didn't have XM... It was pretty much all I listened to.
got Jack?
Peniole 11-16-2005, 06:20 PM I've seen their ads on TV here in Utah. I'll give them a try, I usually just listen to CD's since I get a headache from all the ads (unbelievaly annoying). They have a lot of ads?

To me they have fewer ads than other stations. They don't have DJ chit chat which is nice. Just music, the jack guy making fun of other radio stations' playlists and some commercials.
RTexasF 11-17-2005, 03:58 AM Here it's BOB fm. Upbeat varied music, anything goes.
hermann 11-17-2005, 04:01 AM We have a Jack FM in Kansas City area 105.1. Pretty good unless they start playing near country music.. They play a good mix of 70's and 80's music, but little hard rock. :thumbsdow

Deific 11-17-2005, 04:29 AM Stern had a whole thing making fun of Jack FM and their ads. Yeah, were Jack FM, we don't care what you want, this is what we are going to play. I might be a little biased but it sounds like they are trying to pretend like they don't care. I personally have given up on terrestrial radio, we have one station here 106.9 WCCC that I listen to. They are non corporate and have a no repeat work day from 10-6 they don't repeat 1 song. I have moved over to books on CD. Yeah I know, I am a dork. I just listened to the Runaway Jury in one work day. I figure I spend so much time driving I might as well get a few chapters of a book in.

Oh boy, Howard Stern...
Stern is only doing that because Infinity is rumored to be switching over some stations to Jack to replace HIM after he jumps over to Sirius satellite radio.
Stern has a problem with that because one of his motives for moving to sat radio was to screw over infinity, clear channel and all of the terrestrial stations that carry him. He's a shock jock. He does this kind of thing for attention and to boost his ego. And anything that threatens his ego is automatically an all out target for him.
Personally I think stern stopped being funny years ago, and his ego is WAY too large. :lmao:
I agree about terrestrial radio being crap nowadays (I have XM and now XM is on DirecTV too :D :D ). However, Jack is a welcome change.

I don't think the jack target audience is hard rock though. It's more adult contemporary but more varied.

Maybe I am a sicko but I want to see how far he is willing to go and some of the ideas he has over on Sirius. But I can't stand radio here, especially seeing I heard Hartford is the Reggie Tone capital of the world or something. Nothing worse than hearing the same Reggie tone song ever 20 minutes, and most of these clear channel stations just have this 10-20 song list and thats all they play.

I agree. Stern was funny and cool when the FCC would be banging down his door every week. Now that he's cooled it down I just don't see the point.
On sat radio it just won't be the same because people know that you can curse and talk sex how much you want so the thrill and danger of the FCC coming down with heavy fines won't bring any excitement.
As for smutty satellite radio, we saw how well playboy radio on XM fared...
Clear channel stations playing the same song over and over... You can set your clock by them! It's disgusting how they do it and people still listen. That's why jack is a welcome change - they vary the playlist a lot.
Deific 11-17-2005, 05:22 AM I agree, stern won't have the same appeal over there when you can do anything. Its alright, I will enjoy the variety of everything and while he is a motivation to switch he isn't the only reason as I know what else I will find over there.
Right now on stern, all these porn chicks are going to vomit on jeff the vomit guy. Now thats not the funny part for me, its listening to all the show members gag and almost vomit just listening to it. Like this one time they had this person who had a ... change and they looked at it. It was disturbing, but what was funny was listening to howard cross his line. He was like "oh no, stop, thats it, stop put it away." Artie was like, your just not the same after you see that.
Btw, I went to the Artie Lange comedy show in hartford, and it was so bad, all he did was mc and didn't even do his own thing.
