View Full Version : Low Coolant?
Was just in the garage looking at my engine, and noticed that the coolant level in the overflow tank was below the min line.
I'll admit, I did not check this when I took delivery of the car, so I hope it was like that when I got it and it's not loosing coolant!
What level do you guys see on yours?
I will be taking a 4 hr trip tomorrow to the West coast and will stop by the dealer and have them top it off. Just wondering why it was low in the first place.

Same thing on mine. I added some a while back, but I'll check again tommorrow morning.
OK...
Just got back from the dealer. Met the actual service Mgr. and he took care of me personally! Very nice service! He filled the reserve tank up w/ Honda Coolant, and explained why it was probably low.
He said that w/ a new engine, it takes a bit of driving before the coolant levels itself out. Makes sense, because the engine is pulling coolant out of the reserve when needed, and putting it back when it's not. We both agreed that if it dropped again, there would be a problem, but I'm sure it is "normal", especially after your findings feferic.

the explanation as I was told....
The new engines don't have the "bleed valve" that the others did. A new or sometimes newly rebuilt engine will likely get a few air pockets in the cooling system or heater core. On the PID the level is normally filled to the line, where it belongs. After a few miles the air is worked out & it drops the level some in the overflow. Most of the time the owner or tech catches this on the first oil change. The level is normally not to a point of danger. So if you found it before you did good! If your's isn't low, then maybe the person doing the PID knew the adverage drop level & put a bit extra in to compensate.
Relax.......she's fine.......:grouphug:

I checked my level this weekend -- almost empty in the overflow. I filled it to the minimal line. I need to have my Accord serviced. I'll mention it when I take it in and let you know what they tell me.
Princess -- Thanks for the explanation.

feferic, you're welcome.
I'd like to add.... if you SMELL or SEE coolant, get it checked!!!! No matter the age of the car. Even new ones can have a faulty or loose part. :(
