: Oil Filter change & Oil change
Cleankill 02-01-2010, 12:54 PM Who follows Honda Recommendation?
How often do you change the oil filter (every oil change/every other oil change/milage/time)
How often do you change the oil? (by time/by milage/by oil life monitor)
Who uses synthetic/dino?
I do not follow Honda recommendation on filter change every other oil change!
I put on a new filter on every oil change
I change the oil following the oil life monitor (15-30% before)
I have used both synthetic and dino
The Poll above is about the oil filter change interval!
Stay synthetic.I change filter and oil at same time.If it is over kill oh well i can afford the filter my pockets and deep.lmfao
CYANiDE 02-01-2010, 04:26 PM Every oil change. I just switched to synthetic so I'm changing it out every 6k miles or so. Filter should definitely be changed by them. I don't trust Honda's MM because I did for my first oil change and while it said 30% the oil was PITCH black.
tebow 02-01-2010, 04:33 PM i use synthetic and I change my oil and filter every 5k miles
Jecht 02-01-2010, 04:45 PM I change it every time i do my oil. never know when the filter is in bypass mode. cheaper than an engine rebuild.

FYI, you can do longer OCI's than 5K-6K with synthetic. It's a waste to be changing it out so early, but it's your money.
tebow 02-01-2010, 06:06 PM I might do longer intervals depending how black the oil is, last time I used synthetic made by quaker and the oil was really black so I changed it out
namegoeshere 02-01-2010, 06:22 PM How dark the oil is won't tell you the full story. You should do an oil analysis.

I was planning to do one. It's just I drive A LOT of city miles in HEAVY traffic so I feel that 6k miles is an good time to change them.

But unless you to the analysis. There's no reason to go longer on drain durations. As you don't know when the oil is doing more harm than good. The most I push on my Dakota is 8,000 miles and feel that's pushing it. As I don't get my oil tested. I use M-1 5w-30. I may can go longer but why risk it.
After all do you use a pencil up to the eraser or do you toss it when it gets short and hard to hold?:dunno:

ok you use all the lead in that? thats a good one and was thinking watch someone say mechanical pencil
Bruce Hawkins 02-12-2010, 06:41 PM 8-9K miles on 5w-20 synthetic oil. Amsoil filter Eo filter? I keep it for two times (its rated for 25K), and I do OA to check for signs of any problems, and none so far...
Fredsvt 02-13-2010, 04:45 PM Every 5k change, they're cheap. Leaving that much old oil in doesn't make sense.
I use Motorcraft 5w20. I'm waiting to see when Honda comes out with their "job aid" concerning 0w20 and possibly 0w10. If I want to change or not.
If however I was on an extended OCI, with an oil that's ACEA rated for extended intervals, I'd probably change the filter at 5k and top off. The oil, probably 10k max for my type of use.
1) I change filter every time I change oil.
2) I follow Maintenance Minder. Oil is changed once it hits 15-10%, around 7500 miles every time
3) Mobil 1 0W20 w/ M110 filter
