Ever since a friend showed up last year with a fully loaded EX with leather
(no NAV) and said he had paid 23K, I have decided that cars are truly a dime a dozen. That said, I am eager to buy a 2006, V4, with NAV and trade in my very clean 1998 4 door Accord, manual. However, I want to pay no more than $20,000 period for the transaction. I've seen the sticker and costs for the 2006 with NAV. I'd like to get a $2,000 trade in value for the 1998 which has 110,000 miles on it. I simply do not believe that the NAV is worth what they're charging. I am willing to wait out this buy until I get what I want, whether its on 12/31/2005 or some other cold winter night when nothing is going on in the local Boston area dealerships. Am I dreaming?? Does anyone think I'll be able to get this deal done for net price of 20K? I can't stand the thought of having to pay so much for the NAV option.

Dreaming, by far. Wait until Oct 2006. Since cars are dime a dozen, you won't worry about color, which is good, since you won't have a choice if you're looking for $20K out the door. Your trade will be worth 1500 by then too.

fork over the money for the Navi, I have had it for almost 3 days now and love it...She is great and talks to me when i am alone, she's not always the best listener though..She doesn't always catch what I say. :dunno: It's not just a navi, it's almost everything in the car. love it, love it, love it. :notworthy

First time Forum user here Ben
Ouch! Guess you think I'm dreaming.
I just think its lousy that they get $1,500-$2,000 for an option which admittedly I'd like.. Isn't this like all technology?--Poised to go down in price the longer one waits?

Navi's already come down quite a bit though. I don't see it getting MUCH lower, maybe another 500 bucks. I think that the price is fair, especially when you have voice integration and all the other cool stuff.
Be happy you're not buying a Toyota. They used to (think they still do) group the NAV with other options. IIRC on the Sienna, you have to have an XLE ($30K), then add an option package with DVD/etc, $8,295 = $38K. I'll pass thanks. Lexus is similar, GS/LS Nav used to be grouped with Mark Levinson audio $6-8K option.
(BTW there are no "V4" engines on cars - only motorcycles. We use I4's :) )
EDIT
Just noticed your Accord is a 1998, not an '88...that changes things. Yes I think maybe it'll work but still a long shot. You'd need to get them to really give you a lot on the trade (at least 4K or better, definitely should be doable) and bring them down to about 2k below invoice...probably might go over 20K by a LITTTLE bit. At worst go sell your '98 yourself. I imagine it should be worth at least 5500...they're going for like 6500 in SF.

where are you from seabass? go to www.collegehillshonda.com dealer in ohio you can name your price and see if they accept it...I am sure they won't though. or. www.autofair.com dealer in NH with fairly low prices....or www.openroadhonda.com dealer in NJ that will give you a price quote online that's usually very low.

15 miles west of Boston in the burbs. I'll give some of those links a shot. I love the way the new Accord looks. I figure the longer I wait, at least these dealerships will have some inventory on the lots so that they might think about being aggressive with their prices. I am super loyal to this brand.
I agree with Ben that the fact that they don't bundle these options is a real plus. This whole process may get the better of me since given that I am going to keep this car for many year, like the 98, I plan on loading up this car.

Hate to say it, but thats a long shot. I suggest that you either wait until the honda year end clearence of 06' OR drop the navi, get an LX SE add leather (most dealers will install it for you. Mine did on my 96' LX), and some acessories. This should bring you in RIGHT at or above the 20k mark. If you saying 20k plus your trade then thats another story...

According to edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/honda/accord/100640407/prices.html?action=1) the dealer cost is $24,803 (plus tax, title, etc). I bought my '04 last November and took advantage of the maufacturer to dealer incentive which was about $2,000. If the same incentive program is in effect, the price would be $22,803 (plus tax etc). I think the sales tax in MA is 5%, so about $1,100 sales tax makes it $23,903 (plus title etc). I'm not sure if tax is calculated on the $23,900 or the net figure after subtracting your trade-in. Either way, it's only a difference of $200-$300. If the dealer gives you just shy of $4,000, you should have your deal.

Just for reference, I just picked up my new 06 TW Accord EX sedan (non-leather) with manual transmission for $20,260 (not including TTL). That price is basically $500 under invoice and it included destination. I then added a rear deckild spolier for a little over $400 and also a HondaCare 7 year/80,000 mile extended warranty for $595 (and I made them throw in 5 oil filters).
Because of the color and manual tranny, I had to special order this car back in early November. Also, despite there being 5 Honda dealerships in Twin Cities area (MN), I had to travel 4.5 hours to Milwaukee, WI to get this deal. A great deal still....

It's funny, that navi can understand my non-American accent better than many peoples' American accents.
I just find that mildly amusing.

My Japanese friends (and new Japanese GF) think they should be able to talk Japanese to my navi :lmao: Since the car is a Honda....I had to explain the Navi is Alpine
