Whistler 1730. It just lets you know if you're going to get a ticket, rather than preventing one. :lmao:
It's pretty lame but, I've avoided any tickets or warnings with it so far.
I've had better ones in the past, but found that outrunning the cops worked pretty well too. My record is 5/6 successes, but haven't done that since the 70's. The one time I was caught they used 2 cars and radio, and the officer admitted that he almost lost me. End up getting cited with "too fast for conditions".

If your going to get a ticket nothing will fully protect you. I had a whistler, and now I have a valentine and I love it.

I use some RadioShack Brand. It alerts you of traffic problems ahead of time, Emergency Vehicles, and will tell you when radar is being used. The only Ticket I've gotten so far was when the Honda Dealership took off my fron lic. plate to install my bra, and never gave it back to me! They paid for it though...

hmmm, got pulled over in va using my detector (whistler).... they used laser...... but, they never did search my car cause i would not let them; they would need reasonable cause, right?????

ya im pretty sure they do, one late night i got pulled over for like not signaling ( i live in a college town) so they probably thought i was drunk or something. so the officer asked to check my car and i said no.... well the officer took like an hour and a half trying to get a warrent or whatever and i had nothing in there..... haha dont you just love it when you know you have nothing to lose!!!
but on the other hand i think i might drop some money and get that valentine 1 all ive read is that its the best.

the guy that pulled me over looked young; as he was giving me my ticket for speeding, he kept insisting on seaerching my car for "guns, bombs, and hand grenades"...... needless to say, i'm sure that he was never in the military, case the bases would never let you in with that kind of stuff in your ar to begin with... :lmao:
i know what he wanted to look for: my detector....... :paranoid:

It's the European Ku band I believe. Bel and others believe it's coming to the U.S. The RX-65 picks it up.
The range on this thing is phenomenal! I'm very pleased with it.

Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector on the market today.

"This year, the measurement of the radar and laser detection abilities of each of the over $200 units gives the Valentine One ($400) a small edge over the competing BEL Vector 995 ($260) and Escort Passport 8500 X50 ($300 with red display or $340 with a blue display) units."
V1 is the best in laser detection:
http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=4213&highlight=
V1 has the best rear radar detection because it is the only detector with 2 antennas to locate radar:
http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=4214&highlight=
V1 is the least detectable detector by RDD's or Radar Detector Detectors in states where radar detectors are illegal. The Spectre III is the most used RDD in the world and it can only pick up the Valentine One if it is 166 feet or closer which is better than the X50 which can be detected 954 feet away.
http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=4383&highlight=
The Valentine One which accounts for only .6% of radar detector sales wins every poll when it comes to being the favorite detector. The X50 doesn't even get an approval rating as high as George Bush's worst rating.

Radar Roy from Radarbusters.com said this about the Valentine One, "Just spoke with Carl Fors from SML, his website will be going online tonight with the 2005 results. He has declared the V895, 8500 and the Valentine One as the top performers. Motortrend, who was also at the test, will be declaring the Valentine One as the top detector based upon its detection of laser.
http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=4696&start=90
Radar Roy said, "There were results that they (Guys of Lidar) got during the test that I was not exactly pleased with, such as the discovery of the Blinder not having Stealth Mode installed and the Valentine beating out the Escort and Bel in the range tests. Even though I don’t sell the Valentine, it does have slightly better range than both the RX65 and the 8500 and I also show this same fact on my site. Would love it to be the other way around."

The Bel also tracks multiple targets but no directional arrows. Also consider I paid $235 shipped with a three year exchange warranty. It's not worth another $200 to me for arrows!

Radar Roy does not sell the V1 so it wouldn't make sense for him to choose it as the best detector he ever tested.

I chose the V1, in addition to the arrows & multiple counter that others couldn't do at the time I purchased several years ago, b/c it can be upgraded for ~$50 such as for the POP3 mode detection.

Fellas I've no arguement about the superiority of the V1. In most areas it is the best and has been for a long time. I chose the Bel due to the tests I read, where it won, and cost. It's as simple as that.
They are both top notch pieces of equipment which none of us can deny.

Valentine One
I've had mine since 1998 without an upgrade! It's like an old friend that I know every little beep and pop on my daily commute. I don't drive fast on the freeway anymore. I primarily use my V1 around town. I swap this unit from car to car and even travel with it. Remember, with any detector, you need to get to know it's warning signs and the area you travel. What I love about the V1 is it can pick up multiple signals, so when a cop is hidding in an area when you get false alarms, I can still route him out!

i like my v1 one a lot. a friend of mine has a rx65 and it failed to catch a couple of unmarked cruisers (behind) who hit us on a (popular road for souped up cars) on the berlin turnpike with lidar.
his didnt catch a thing, mine went bonkers. (placed at the same point of our cars above center dash)
ive also found my v1 to be excellent in detecting radar from all sort of angles. my only beef with it is the annoying sensitivity.

I wouldn't worry about cops using a RDD (Radar Detector Detector) in VA to detect your V1 because it is one of the least detectable by the cops.

Beltronics just released the brand new STi Driver that is supposedly undetectable by RDD's but it will cost you more than the Valentine One.

um, none of the above. i have one ticket in oh, i don't know how many miles of driving..... never used a radar detector, never will. i use the good old look for the cops and make sure you're not the fastest on the road.
now if someone could invent some spikes that protrude from my car when another vehicle gets too darn close, that i'd buy. i think i have a need for something like that.

wouldnt work for my style of driving, i hate driving in traffic so prefer to drive post 7-8pm for long distance trips. as a result i am often 10 over the limit so would like to have radar protection.

No tickets here either, but I commute 35 miles each way and the NJ state troopers hide all over the place, especially in the bushes or on offramps. I consider my V1 to be cheap insurance. I have a scanner in my vehicle too (perfectly legal for me, I have a radio license) so I listen out for them. Some PD's are going digital though so it's becoming more difficult to listen in.
And they don't always pull over the fastest on the road either - it's totally random.
