View Full Version : Moonroof visor noise

Had my moonroof visor installed a couple weeks ago.

On my trip to Tampa last weekend, I noticed that right around 75-80 mph, I could hear a rattle in the car. Initially, it seemed to be coming from the back seat area. But when i slid open the shade to the moonroof, it was louder and appeared to be coming from the visor or moonroof. The shade obviously muffled the sound and made it sound like it was further back on the car than it really was.

Anyways, the visor seems to be installed correctly. I even made sure that they used the protective tape on the metal before they installed the clips for the visor. And I couldn't move it much w/ my hand, so it seems to be pretty tight.

I did notice that the way the visor is designed, each side has a piece that extends about 3-4 inches from the last clip (there are 4 clips total) and the very end of these sides are a bit loose. I'd have to guess that the noise is coming from the wind moving those sides.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
Anyone else have the visor and willing to test it out ~75-80 mph?

Thanks!

Here's what they had to say about visor noise on the '03's.....

"Check for excessive clearance between the glass weatherstrip and the roof panel."

I'd ask the dealer for help. Although I don't have one now, I have before & there wasn't any wind noise from it. I would find that unacceptable! If enough people complain they will find a fix! They can't know there's a problem unless we tell them!!

I think that is dealing primarily w/ noise coming from the moonroof alone, i.e. moonroofs w/o the visors.
I think I have a diff. noise.

That's what I found. That's why I suggested talking to the dealer. Sometimes the techs start hearling about things before Honda figures it out.

If the '03's haven't had it, then I wonder if the the XM box up there is causing some sort of turbulence?? They may end up having to add clips all the way to the end. Just a thought.....

The thought did cross my mind.

The fact that we got it for free from the dealer makes it an even easier decision, if we decide to take it off.

Maybe some sort of non permenate adhesive would solve the problem. If you used some sort of double sided tape and the noise went away, then maybe you could consider a more permenate adhesive. I could see that 3-4 inches after the last clip could start to vibrate at highway speed.

Bean:

I have had the same problem with my '03 EX-V6 Sedan and I do not have a visor.

In my case the sound appears to be coming from the rear drain channel that slides back and forth with the operation of the sunroof. I have a set of factory service manuals and they have been very helpful in understanding hoe the parts relate.

Anyway, I found that when I pulled down slightly on the front of the drain channel (it has a rubber edge and is just behind the front edge of the sunshade) that the noise went away. I pulled down a little harder on the drain channel to bend it ever so slightly and the noise has disappeared 99% of the time. The only time I still hear it is over a very harsh bump. I think the top of the channel was hitting either the underside of the roof or the glass panel itself. It was a light (i.e. thin) metallic sound.

Hope this helps!
