I have been looking into this for a bit and cant find it. might be I am not wording it right in the searches.:dunno:

car has 177000 miles on the speedo and clean as a whistle. no leaks and spotless under the oil cap. no buildup or varnish. I live in the Shenandoah valley in Va. planning on M-1 but don't know if I should do 5w-30 or 20.

I know '99 and newer J30A1's are all approved for 5w20. There was a note in some service news issue I read regarding the engines that could take it.

My oil filler cap and Owner's Manual states "5W-20." I'm packing exclusively Mobil One 5W-20, year round. My "J30A1" runs quiet as a mouse. Spotlessly clean inside. ZERO oil consumption. :)

kinda different when you live around here and see it everyday. the hills get on your nerves after a few years. but its an area I say is great to visit but not to live.

Using 5W-30 is fine. 5W-20 is conducive to somewhat lower cranking resistance (particularly in extreme cold) and PERHAPS slightly-improved fuel economy. I have also found 5W-20 generally less expensive than 5W-30, especially in the case of Mobil One...which is what I exclusively use, for over 16 (sixteen) years.
