We're helping get tires for the old Chevy truck ('78 Silverado) & the only tires made seem to be at Firestone.... I checked every brand on Tire Rack... Any suggestions? It has the stock rims & I really don't want to buy new ones.... :dunno:
Is there a compatible size?

What do the numbers correspond to? I know the 16.5 is rim height, 9.5 should be tire width? 16.5" tires are mostly LT or off road tires. What is the 50?

:dunno: It has LT's on it..9.5 & 16.5 are on them... The ones I found say 9.550R16.5E I think that's the height, like the 225 or whatever on tires now.

If I use 1980 instead the right rim size kicks up!!
I found three:
Firestone
Transforce HT
Blackwall
Size:9.50RR16.5
Load Rating: E
Kumho
Road Venture HT
Blackwall
Size:9.50QR16.5
Kumho
Road Venture AT 825
Blackwall
Size:9.50QR16.5
Load Rating: D
Both Kumho's are $91 & the Firestones are $119 at tire rack. I wish there was a load rating on the second one. Is there a big difference between a D & E?

The old "bumpity" truck is at the tire shop..... they had some Coopers in stock, so I went with them. They have the same ratings as the Firestones I found & I didn't have to wait a week!
The tire guy took one look & said "woa!"..... I've been saying the weather cracks were as deep as the tread!! It's BAD!!!
Jacob had a little trouble getting it to start because of how long it's sat. The ol' rodchester carb will leak down after a few days..... I could always get it to start though, I likes me best!!! :D
If it had a bath & shined up, it would look pretty good. It still has those original white rims with a "moon" middle. Being non-metalflake paint she always shined up easy.
Now he needs a shell...............
craigslist here we come........

Jacob went on a feildtrip with the boys to see "The Nutcracker"...so the old truck is parked in front of my house today....so I thought I share.
I has no major dents or anything... the "wonderful" GM paint is now peeling off a front fender. I think it has about 114K on it now. I'm tempted to wash it up & shine it....but it's only 40 degrees outside & I just came in a little while ago after cleaning yards. I'm still trying to thaw out!!!
The cousin we'd given it to for sobering up got it taken away for falling off the wagon, so the uncle gave it Jacob. Jacob was told the 400 he handed over for registration made it up to date.... WRONG! yesterday's trip to DMV cost over 600 just for the truck!! It hadn't been paid in 2 years, plus this year & a bunch of late fees!!
So the cousin pocketed the money...gee, what a surprise!
