Great forum...lots of expertise from what I've read.

I hope I'm flogged for posting a topic on 96 accord in the 97 forum :dunno:

I have a 96 accord ex that I'm replacing the rear brakes and rotors on. I got down to compressing the calipers and they felt firm and wouldn't budge with my BIG C-clamp. I was reading another topic and it mentioned that the caliper piston needed to be turned with a screw driver. Would this apply to my 96?

Cheers,

Jeffmo

:smilemad: Stop with the clamp. You can not replace the rear by just pressing in the piston. Like most cars with rear disc brakes, you will have to turn the caliper piston in to refit new discs as well as new pads. This is how your parking brakes auto adjust.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy the tool kit for this job. The tool kit number is Item 40732 (See the picture). Any other auto store should have something like this. Mine was on sale for $19.95.

 You should be able to get hold of a Haynes Manual to help. Good luck.

Very well. I thank you for the quick response and info on caliper.
What is the name of the tool? Caliper piston compressor?

Thanks again,

Jeffmo

Yes, I believe so. However, Harbor Freight can pull up the part number.

I know that this is an old thread, but just in case you don't have this tool, I have always used a pair of needle nose plyers to just slowly turn and push in on the caliper piston.
