Greetings,

I'm new to the board, this is my first post. Just got an Ex Accord last week and was shocked to find that there was virtually no tranny fluid, low coolant level, and low oil. I know the dealer will fix the issue, but is there any action I can take against the dealer? Look forward to being a member of this board. Happy New Year!

Peace,

btwracing

Action? Like what? Maybe a free keychain?

Was this a certified pre-owned car that you just got or a brand new car?
How low were the levels?

It's a brand new '06 accord; two weeks old. There's virtually no tranny fluid, oil level not high, coolant at half.

Surely not new. Either way, did you get a pre-delivery checklist? If so, I'm wondering if that piece of paper would cover the dealer if a fight ensued?

"Taking action against the dealer" might be the last card you want to play. First, give the dealer the opportunity to do the right thing. He may be very appreciative and eager to satisfy you. Exactly what is it that you want? Do you no longer want the car (Is there a 3-day cooling off period in your state?) Do you want a warranty, if available?

How many miles was the car driven before you discovered the problem?

If topped off, does the level of these fluids remain constant or is the car losing fluid?

Time is not on your side. Go to the dealer immediately. If necessary escalate (calmly) to the general manager and/or American Honda.

Looks like our posts crossed - - so it IS new. Have you looked at the pre-delivery checklist? Do you know what you want?

How low was the ATF - - any on the dipstick?
You seem to be waffling on the engine oil - - "low" or "not high"?
Coolant half - - half of what? The radiator or the overflow reservoir?

Was the car on level ground when you checked?

Oil doesn't have to be at max, coolant should be fine at half. Are you reading this stuff right?

Did you use these procedures for checking the fluids?

Coolant should be at Minimum in the overflow tank when cold, maximum when hot.

Oil should be checked with the car on a level surface, engine off, and not run for about 15 minutes. Pull the stick, wipe it off, reinsert, remove and read. If the level is between the two dots you are okay. New engines DO use some oil, be aware of this.

Transmission and engine should be completely warmed up with engine running on a level surface. Pull the stick, wipe it off. Put the stick back in, remove it, and read the fluid level.

I understand how a new car is, but if you knew all of that, better off just topping it off or replace those fluids yourself. I've heard of dealers putting in "used" oil and coolants in other people's car, so unless I know people at the dealer personally, I wouldn't go to them for a quick fix - anymore.
