i have an at and when i start the car after sitting over night it makes a loud grinding noise that has happened for a bit and honda never did anything about it. now when i am driving it is grinding in like 1st n 2nd switching gears. what is going on? and how long til my car because a 28,000 brick that doesnt work?

You have to be that squeaky wheel, else they'll happily let the warranty run out on you.

Go to the dealership and complain, make sure your complaint is documented even if they just put down No Fault Found, it's documentation you will need in the future to make your case.

dealerships will avoid n dodge tranny issues because its time consuming and expensive. tske that ****er in.

It's funny that you mention having a grinding issue with your I4/AT because I've noticed a few instances of clunking/grinding with mine, as well. The first time I heard an odd noise from mine was the morning after I had shifted the transmission from P to N and back to P while the car was off (I needed to roll my car forward a few feet and didn't want to start it just to do that, so I rolled it in Neutral). When I cranked the car the next time the following morning, it made a loud, nasty clunk. It sounded like the transmission fell out of the car. That was with about 1000 miles on the odo, and was the first time I ever heard any of my cars do that. I used to roll my 6th gen V6 like that all of the time and I never heard it clunk at startup, and that car had the worst transmission in Honda history (next to the 5-speed auto in the Acura TL/CL, of course). It did, however, have that loud bang sound when shifting out of Park that was common on the 6th gen V6. Still, I never had a problem with that car's tranny in the 30k miles I drove it.

But I digress...

Months later, my car made the same loud clunk as it did before, only this time I didn't roll it or anything beforehand. I simply put it in Park and left it for 10 hours, and when I came back and started it...BANG! Once again, it sounded like the tranny fell out. That was at 5000 miles. And just the other day, I manually shifted from Drive to 1 while at a complete stop and on the way down to 1, the shifter got snagged at 2 for a second, and when it did, I heard a nasty grinding sound come from the tranny. That was at 5200 miles.

I'm starting to believe that my transmission may not even make it 10k miles before it needs to be replaced. That's pretty sad considering that I baby this car more than any other that I've owned. I drove my 6th gen like I stole it, and it performed without a hitch for 30k miles. I would say the same for my 7th gen, but right before I got rid of it, it developed a nasty clunk when shifting into 3rd at WOT. I'm not too fond of the idea of getting the transmission replaced so early in this car's life, especially considering that Honda won't replace it with new transmission, only a refurbished one. I don't like that idea at all.

I'm going to keep an ear out for any more strange noises, and if anything else happens I'm going to (reluctantly) take it to the dealer.
