The speedo in my wife's 96 accord ex, 4-cyl w/at has been failing to indicate speed every time it's driven. It's constantly comming on and going off while goin' down the road.

I'm assuming that it's electronic & that a sensor may be located on trans??

Cheers,

Jeff

Any problem with the tach or dash lights? It sounds like the vehicle speed sensor to me, but I'm not a mechanic.

Try your cruise control, if that doesn't work... it's most likely the speed sensor. Very common on the 5th gens.

Everything else works fine. Just a speedo problem at this time :paranoid:

Where's the location of the sensor?

I'm hoping that I don't have to go back to the auto store to use their Chiltons to find location. They didn't like tha fact that I removed the plastic wrap to refer to another problem I was having at the time. I can see that threr's enough expertise in this forum to point me to the correct location  ?

Sounds like the speed sensor on the tranny to me.... When they're starting to fail, they dont know how fast the car is going, so the speedometer doesn't pick up a speed.

 You can also check www.hondahookup.com/manuals. They have a pdf manual for the 5th gen that has been very helpful to me. I believe you have to sign up on the forum to view the manuals, however. Although, like most forums, it doesn't cost. Just download the CD7/CD9 manual and you can download the 96 update as well  Hope this helps :D

I have the Chiltons manual for my car, but that one ^^^ was much more helpful, I thought. Especially since it has a search function :D

Yep, happened to my '95. But I foolishly didn't follow that advice - the speed sensor drives the cruise, so if your cruise works, it's the gauge. For a 10-year old car, you should be able to find one at a junk yard.

If the cruise doesn't work, the speed sensor is on the trans. Not a difficult job, as long as you have a decent socket set (with a flexable adapter).

PM me if your cruise doesn't work. I still have the sensor I replaced, which should be fine. It's yours for the price of shipping.
