It did give an error a couple of times, come to think of it, but not today nor yesterday.

It looks like an intermittent problem.

The server only seems to barf at large files/high quality jpegs.

Try opening the file in photoshop, and then "save for web" and reduce the quality to about 5. If you don't have photoshop, use MS photo editor and save as a jpeg and reduce the quality to about 50 (you'll see that when you press the "more >> " button.

Probably has to do with some limit set in the database itself that vBulletin isn't aware of... I am not sure what wards is using as a backend (mysql?) so I can't say for sure.

That's my best guess.

I was getting the same error for about a month....but haven't had it much lately. Sometimes If I kept trying I could get what I was posting to go on....sometimes it never would.... shrinking, renaming, changing it's format... nothing worked. :dunno: Now it's been rare.

It sure made it hard to put some info on!!!

I get this error all the time when I'm simply surfing the forums. It's never been a major problem. When it happens, normally it will be like that for a day or a few hours, but if I try from another comp or go out and come back, it'll work again. IMO uploading pics using the forum software isn't worth the hassle. I like using separate hosts better...I upload on the forums when I know a picture works (like the worn 6th gen steering wheel).

The specific problem with posting pics has to do with file size. Above a certain file size, you get that error, consistently.

One possible reason could be the script timing out while uploading the pic to the database thinking that the database connection is dead.

Another reason could be a limit set in the database that the forum software doesn't know about.

It only gives that error with high quality JPEGs, even if they meet the resolution requirement (i.e. no more than 800 pixels wide or was it 640?). So the solution is to reduce the quality and hence the filesize of the jpegs you want to post.

I attach pics because it saves on my bandwidth (and right now my server is down b/c I am moving and it needs a new power supply).
