First, what is your car?? year, model?
May be as simple as clearing the codes stored in the computer, if the problem you fixed was the reason for the light in the first place.

Hi Bean!
Grinf,
The most common cause for the Antilock Brake light to come on is people that accidently drive with their emergency brake on. After nearly any problem is fixed the computer needs to be reset. A shop would have the "tester" tool to reset it. While your light is on the computer has overridden the system & you DO NOT have anti lock brakes, just regular ones. Hope this helps!

first, thax to all that will try to hellp me, i m owner of
honda accord ex 2.0i 4walb from 1988 with 12 valve and 140hp engine (with 160.000 miles on counter)GREAT CAR,still working as a swiss clock
another thing, i m living in europe country, and we still dont have an honda diler or service, and all people that own honda are forced to colaborate and manage to repair their hondas on different ways.
so i see that i should answer on some questions here:
first, my alb is working corectly as i said becouse i do know how alb(or abs) system is acting when it is activated, second there is no one here that can properly reset hondas computer, only way is that i can disconect it from power suply...so i m asking you if you can tell me what other reasons can be that my alb lamp is still on?
i do not have any leaking from system , and i know only one thing, front breakpads are on half way from new one, and my rear are new(could that be a problem??)
and at the end i m sorry for my bad english its not my native
I M WERRY THANXFULL TO ALL OF YOU,AND FOR YOUR

One way to make sure your antilock brakes are working is to take it to a empty area, like a parking lot. Drive it at a medium speed, about 35-50 mph, then stomp on the brakes. If your skid mark is a dotted line, the system is working. If the skid mark is a long solid line then only the regular brakes are working.
I have no idea how to reset the code without the proper tools. If I find out, I'll pass on the information.
If the car was driven with the emergency brake set, the light will come on and not go back out until it's reset. I don't think the fact your front brakes are just half gone will do it.
If you have a fuse out the light can come on, so check ALL your fuses. In the car & under the hood.

my abs light came on and I looked under the hood and found the brake fluid container to be way low. Is this supposed to happen when you service your car regularly? I filled the container w/ brake fluid and the light went off. Just wondering if it's an issue I should be concerned with. I know barely anything about car maintenance. I was impressed that I "fixed" the problem for the first time, however;)
Also, princess, thank you for those bulletins....b/c I have never fixed a car and have no tools, how would you recommend I find a mechanic that won't rip me off like all other ones I've come in contact with? I've been trying to search these accord forums to see if I can somehow get referred to a good mechanic...but i've been unsuccessful thus far.
repairs needed: EGR valve (check engine light on and dealer diagnosed), rotor resurfacing, actuator door lock, oil seal (top)
I appreciate all the advice you have! knowledge is power and you've sure got it!:)

grinf, if your car is an 1988 it doesn't have antilock lock brakes. The light on the dash is not the same as an ALB light. The 2 most common reasons for that year range to light up that indicator are low fluid & it can be just a corroded bulb. I had an '86 that would do that a lot. Check & clean all the brake light bulbs. The metal parts that plug in can be sanded with sand paper lightly. I guess before you do that, you should make sure all 4 bulbs are lighting up with your foot on the brake.
kristen, unfortunately I think the latest findings were only a 25% chance of finding an honest shop. Ususally the dishonesty comes in the diagnosis, not the repair. Since you already know WHAT you need you can call shops for the best price. (Remember the people on the phone aren't normally the ones touching your car.) Ask friends that own Hondas. Maybe some knows of a place that has a better reputation. If your oil leak is the valve cover gasket, & it wasn't replaced at your last intermediate or major service.... you may need to complain to them.
Now I am speaking in generalities here: if your services are done at the proper intervals at a dealer you have a recourse when things aren't right. Say you had a major service done 5K ago & now your valve cover gasket leaks.... since they should have adjusted the valves & replaced the gasket, you have a right to complain.
We should keep good records of what was done & when. Then we know what to complain about later.
Have your services been done at a dealer?
If sometime in a parking lot you see an exceptionally well maintined looking older Honda & the owner is present, ask them where they have their car repair done at. This may sound weird to some, being from CA it's not. We talk to anyone!
Most parts can be replaced with 8-14 mm sockets & wrenches. Maybe that's something to ask Santa for!:D

You never know if his car has ABS because it's an Euro model. It could have it, he (she?) already said it's been tested. Grinf, personally I think if the light bothers you a lot, cover it with some black tape. If the car still stops and there's no leak then forget about it. Pull the fuse, put tape over the light and don't lose sleep over it. It seems like it's really hard for you to get it fixed but you already said it's working. If it were my car I'd just forget it :) The ABS in my dads '86 300E hasn't been working for like 5 years already and it's still doing okay :)

You r not listening to me, inside of my car is worning panel that is made for warning me about bulb problems, and i m not so unfamiliar with cars, only thing is that i newer drive any of japan made cars , only european models such as vw golf, daimler-benc,opel, peugeot, saab, and ofcourse yugo,so u must consider that i check all wheickle befor i bought it, and i did all tests eg.fuses, bulbs, oil, belts, and etc. and if i m saying that my car does alb it realy does, on rear side of car is mark that said 4wALB with discbreaks on all 4 weels i allso checked with few honda accord drivers that own similar models buth with less powerfull engines (110hp) and they dont have either rear disck brakes nor ALB, mine is diferrent. I only trying to ask is it posible after all that warning ligh is on becouse that my handbreak is not funcioning at all ??? maybe i should give to u nombers from engine and carshell so u can check model of my car:blush:

It is relatively simple to check if vehicle has ABS system...
Open hood, find brake master cylinder on firewall located opposite driver compartment..... were you add fluid.. Follow brake lines from master to ABS unit should have 2 lines going in and 4 lines coming out to each wheel plus electric wiring for power and control.... If you have this then yes you have ABS ....
As far as hand/parking brake operation affecting ABS system that is possible but unlikely... If parking brake cable, lever at one of your rear wheels has broken and damaged a wheel sensor or wiring then yes it can be connected to the light coming on...
But then it may be coincidental that something within ABS system has failed........
Are your rear brake pads OK???
Hope this helps
