My friends accord just started acting weird. After its started it idles fine, but will top off at 3500rpms like it hitting a rev limiter. I was going to pull codes, but cant remember where its at and what color the connector is you have to jump. I remember my 95 4 banger was under the glove box and I think was brown. Any help would be great, he had to drive his camaro in our whoppin 3rd day of actual snow and isnt too fond of driving a rwd in the snow.

Try resetting the ECU first. Probably won't do anything but worth a try at least.

His car has OBD II and the connector is behind the ashtray. Take it into autozone and pull the code. Sounds like an Idle sensor.

It's in default. (limp home mode) Without the code it could be anything!!!
Clearing the code will make it rev higher again, but won't fix the problem. It will come back when the check engine light comes back on.
So get us the code & we'll see what's on the "most likely list". :D

Thats what I am trying to find out. Where do I read the codes from? Can it be jumpered like my 95 was able to do. Its not driveable so I cant go anywhere to get codes pulled, and he knows codes can be pulled without spending the money on a reader.

Hmm. Somewhere on this site there are instructions on putting the OBD II system in OBD I mode. Your old Accord has OBD I which was a less advanced system of engine management, but this also made it easier to self diagnose.
Princess, do you have something on this issue??? Im going to go search the forum for it

Hate to mention this. But do the Automatic gear shifter lights on the gauge cluster blink when in gear? Sounds kinda like a trannie issue. These 5th Gen V6's had some issues, while not many with AT's.

He said he doesnt recall if they blink, but his tranny is a little jacked up. Long shifts and such.

It won't let me put it on here....I've been having problems putting larger things on. :dunno:
PM your email & I'll send it to you. :D It's a troubleshooting chart & instructions on where to test from for a 96 V6.

The codes can definitely be read with a paperclip, because mine can do that. After a little searching on my old hangout spots...

Additional piece of info I found, if you get a CODE 10...the wire is not inserted fully and the circuit isn't complete.
