I have an 89 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder. My friend referred me to Seafoam and so I used it through my PCV valve. Nothing really happened after I had done it (no black smoke) but I had noticed later that night that when I got out of the car it smelled like something was burning. I just figured it had something to do with the Seafoam. Soon the car would randomly idle at high speeds (usually when the engine was cold) and sometimes the car would not slow down without hitting the brake. The smell continued and soon I noticed that white smoke would come out from under the hood while the car was running and when it was just turned off. I also think the car is eating a little more gas than usual.
I had a mechanic look at it and he said he thought the problem was a lean misfire where the fuel was not correctly being administered to the engine. He was not sure what the cause of the lean misfire was though. I am curious if the Seafoam could have caused this problem and I would also appreciate it if anyone had any comments on how I might be able to fix the problem. Thanks.
