View Full Version : Honda HFP Suspension or Tien Basics?

Conundrum

I've purchased a new 06 Accord CM81 (2 Door V6 6spd) and am waiting to take delivery in about another 4 weeks.

I originally purchased the sports supsension along with the car cause I wanted to reduce the ride height and limit the amount of body roll in the car. Since I put down the downpayment, I have been thinking over if I should call them and tell them I don't want the HFP suspension anymore and just get Tien Basics and install them myself. However I do have a few questions that maybe some ppl on the board know the answers to already:

1. If I go the aftermarket Tien route, do the coilovers come preassembled so all I have to do is bolt them on essentially, or do I have to install the springs on the shocks myself? How hard is it to install one of these coilover kits?

2. If I go for the Tien's, how easy is it to modify the ride height of the vehicle...I ask because I live in Canada and would like to raise the car to stock in the winter then lower it back to how I like it in the wamer months when I don't have to worry about plowed vs unplowed streets.

3. If I go aftermarket, will I just void the warranty on the suspension, and maybe the brakes/rotors, or do I void a lot more than that?

4. If anyone has either the HFP suspension or Tien Basics could you let me know why you chose what you chose and if you are happy with them/have ran into any problems with them. Honda wants 1400+tax for theirs and I can get the Tien's for 1000+tax.

5. If I get the Tien's I figure I need to adjust the camber to correct for the lowered suspension. Do I need anything extra (figure I need a camber kit for the front and rear), and how much does it cost to have it all realigned or can I do it myself in my garage.

I know this is a lot and sorry if some of this has already been covered (I saw some posts about HFP already but no real direct comparisions or installation details).

Thanks in advance.

what? 1400 for hfp? i can get it for you for 400 shipped and then you can do the install yourself.

urmm ok, anyway. here is what i suggest you get. the neuspeed cup kit, attach the threaded sleeves and presto a great coilover kit.

I live in Canada so the price for the parts is more than what handa-accessories.com posts it for. 1400 is also the cost listed on the Canadian Honda site when you spec out the car (but that is having them install it though).

Another question too actually....are Tien SS' that much better than Tien Basics...I'm not taking the Accord to the track I just want firmer suspension closer to what the Type-S has...

tein ss allows rebound damping adjustment. rebound adjustment will allow you to increase damping.

i would recommend not going with teins. go with the neuspeed cup kit.

"3. If I go aftermarket, will I just void the warranty on the suspension, and maybe the brakes/rotors, or do I void a lot more than that?"

No, you will never void the warrenty unless you have a problem with the car that is caused by the aftermarket parts. If Honda cant prove that it was the aftermarket part, then your all set.

If you fight with a multimillion dollar corporation and go in thinking that you're going to win because you just got mad skill...I got news for you...

I have mad skills... And do very good with them!! Of course i have no problems useing my fist either. When it comes to money I dont mind a trip to the jail house to make my point. I will make a point not to bail out if Im right in the crux of the matter to start with. Or i like to use small claims court. I can cost somebody money more times than not that they really dont wish to talk about. Weapons baby,,, weapons,,, its all about the truth and weapons.. Matters to me not if somebodys face hurts for two weeks when they shave. I will be out of jail faster than the jaw stops hurting. Or if i spend 37 bucks to drag them into court.... :)

As for the lowering. I would go with hondas stuff in your case. It would seem you need to get your prioritys straight. Sure its nice to get low. But you have weather concerns. So why go anymore than the 1" Honda offers. The cost there quating you is absurd. But if its dealer installed at time of purchase you have the good warrenty.

Im looking at Tein basics to come out for my Civic. Ebachs have a boat look. They do this to keep weight distro good under load.

Take my new Civic it has much tighter wheel wells than the Accord. So a .5" to .75" drop will tighten up the look and at such a slight drop no camber kits are needed. I can already corner it so hard Ive had it on the tire sidewalls. The Accord Im not going to screw with. The AT has ruined that car. Plus its the wifes sled.

With your concerns,,, go conservitive and do the Honda stuff and move on. If your worried about snow clearance.... then junk the common stuff and do hydraulics or air... Slam it for cool and jack it up for the white stuff.

Thers no easy way to get to perfect!!!
