The trianglular black plastic at the base of the mirror assembly on the outside is no longer a deep black. Is it just black plastic or is it painted? The reason I'm asking is I want to restore the shine. I wanted to use Son of a Gun viny/rubber/plastic protectant. It works wonders on any dashboard I've used, nice shine (or not depends on how you like it and how you apply) and it resisted fading and cracking. The catch is that they warn not to use on or near paint.
Anyone know how to restore the shine on that part?

Wow 46 views and no answers?
Well decided to do some snooping to see if it's just me or is this a common problem. I found several Accords around with the same problem and an Accord coupe with horrible side mirrors. The strange thing about this is that the base seems to fade but the plastic around the mirror itself is as black as you got it from the showroom :dunno:
Anyway found a nice product that delivers what it promises to do...
Mothers Back to Black. Will work on plastic, rubber, and flat paint. Basically any outside trim (although I don't know if I'd use it on the polycarbonate trim on the coupes).
Excellent results.
On a side note PlastX works wonderfully on the headlights and taillights. They sparkle better than the day I got the car.

When I used the WetPaint product on my car last night I noticed a nice shine from all of the plastic (to include the headlights).
Looks like you found a jewel to use as well

Maybe you're getting wax on it?

Nope I'm anal about waxing, and it was too uniform to be wax. The whole piece was discoloured :dunno: like it aged prematurely (both sides) and on more than one Accord I saw today.

Do you have any AIO? If you apply and wipe off immediately, it should help protect it. I saw a retailer try it on his Tundra mirror for me and yeah it actually didn't leave white spots, was amazing. :lmao:

AIO? excuse my ignorance :dunno:
EDIT: never mind I found it :D looks like a nice alternative to wax.
