: the Pilot/Ridgeline
princess 03-03-2006, 12:36 PM When I needed to move the Pilot form a parking spot to the loading area at Home Depot the booger refused to start!!!
We now have 32K on it & it looks like the immobilizer is starting to go out!! It just cranked & cranked. I stopped then tried again, nothing. When I took the key out & put it back in, it started.
I was upset, embarrassed, frustrated & ready to kick it!!!
I called my prince to whine about it. It's never done that for him! It saved it's misbehaving for me! Great!
He's kicking around the idea of a Ridgeline.....I'm thinking he might just get one now!! :lmao:
After hauling a half pallet of sod this morning I cleaned out the inside really well for him. The outside is still a mess, but I'm pooped.
I think IF we do decide on a Ridgeline I'd want a steel blue one. The red has the tan interior so it would only match the boat on the outside anyway. The lighter blue would look cleaner longer, which would be nice for him. No chrome accents though. Just tow package, foglights, Nav, camera, crossbars, step thing, & MAYBE the chrome rims.....
We're still talking about it...... :dunno:
samsonskeg 03-03-2006, 01:00 PM for some reason, i like the green color.
i say go for the green, but thats just me. You dont have to listen to me :)
princess 03-03-2006, 01:24 PM Nope not green.... I grew up with WAY TOO MUCH green!! My parents loved it!!
Avacado green house, camper, truck & boat!!! :puke:
I like the shade of blue....he's considering the silver. I guess I need to check to see what color the white has.... I like white. EASY to care for!!
samsonskeg 03-03-2006, 01:27 PM White doesnt seem bad at all
stevencrosbie 03-03-2006, 01:45 PM The steel blue is a great color....but then there is white :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
Soul Man 03-03-2006, 02:16 PM for some reason, i like the green color.
i say go for the green, but thats just me. You dont have to listen to me :)
i also love the green, i think it looks so bad a$$ in it, but personally stell blue just doesnt do it for me that much, i mean the truck has all this "tough" styling with it, and the steel blue is a bit iffeminite in my eyes, and completely contrasts with the "tough" look, i like the silver though, and i really like the red, but i agree it might be a bit of a b!tch to clean
benjamming 03-03-2006, 04:37 PM I wouldn't think the white would shine that much though. IMHO, black and white are the two hardest colors to keep clean. Black shows paint chips the worst though, but can shine better.
Accord4Life 03-03-2006, 05:59 PM I saw a white Ridgeline at the mall with chrome aftermarket wheels. She was a bute! I say white. And it does shine well in the sun IMO. Anyways. Hope you find what you're looking for. Although don't you ever need the Pilots 3rd row to haul the family around when they are visiting??? It's a shame the immobilizer is going. I suppose its not under warrantee anymore, as I suspect you got one as soon as they hit the show room! Unless you got the extended warrantee.
Keep us posted.
Mike
princess 03-03-2006, 07:41 PM Out of warranty  but hey, we waited a whole 2 months....we bought in August (5th) We looked the day before they actually hit the showrooms!!
White shines up VERY well!! Non metal flake shine nicely.....but I'm still leaning toward the blue :dunno:
The green is has too many bad memories for me.
I'd get black if I was going to be the main driver, but it'll be his commuter....road grime collects too quick.
We'll be kickin' this around a while....well, maybe a month or so. Then we'll either keep the Pilot that he really loves or go on to the Ridgeline.
If we get one, I wonder what we'd name her???
I wonder how silly I'd look driving it.... I don't fit the Pilot, it's big!
I like the Steel Blue too. I think the Blue looks good with silver/gray trim. Might I suggest the accessory grill? I think it looks sharp and completely changes the entire look of the front. I like it better than the microwave antenna thing Honda has been doing for the noses lately. :dunno:
One errant start . . . I wouldn't be too concerned about it yet. Sometimes when you have multiple keys on your chain with immobilizer chips, it can thwart the engine starting. If you had your Accord key on the ring, maybe this time the rolling security codes happened to be similar and it took a shuffle or two of the keys as you cranked it to straighten things out?? Just a thought. :)
Accord4Life 03-04-2006, 07:28 AM Princess - I was just out getting some coffee from starbucks, and I noticed that my Pilot had a hard time starting!? I inserted the key, turned and nothing, then I giggled it around and turned it and nothing, then I just took the key out put it back in and then she turned right over. I never drive it, as it's my wife's car. But it seems to be similar to your problem. I guess on monday I'll see if I can make an appointment. BTW - 2003 Honda Pilot EXL with 34.8k now.
Accord4Life 03-04-2006, 07:31 AM "One errant start . . . I wouldn't be too concerned about it yet. I forgot about that. But the Pilot is the only Honda we have at the moment with the Immobilizer. So Im clueless. :dunno:
princess 03-04-2006, 07:56 AM I had HIS keys....so it had the Pilot key, remote, & his toolbox key...no Accord key...he had mine. We don't have much on our keyrings.
The Pilot cranked & cranked & cranked...just like if the wire was off the cap on an older one.
The first thing he said was immobilizer....so I'm thinking he's seen it at work :dunno: I'm not in a panic....especially since I'm not the normal driver...it's HIS problem :naughty:
I just might tootle over to our local dealer & check out the Ridgeline colors in person. :dunno:
BenjiBoy650 03-04-2006, 10:33 AM My Accord has been experiencing delayed start too (immobilizer equipped). Turn the key...2-3 second delay...crank and fire.
I think white or silver for me on a Ridgeline
princess 03-04-2006, 11:31 AM Although I loved the '02 Accord in silver, I don't think I want it again...not in a truck. I'll have to see them up close & in person. I've seen all the colors on the road, but I want to REALLY see them before deciding. I was deteremined on the other Hondas we bought (new) to get a specific color. I'm trying to be open minded. It's hard....when it comes to color.... :paranoid:
When the Accord did it's "long crank" thing it was the fuel pressure thing. We haven't had it act up since it got replaced.
Accord6MT 03-04-2006, 11:41 AM Was at my dealer today having the lip spoiler installed on my accord....... The black ridgeline the dealer has looks gorgeous....
princess 03-04-2006, 02:44 PM Well, I did go out & look at them....no NAV ones there, so I didn't get to see the dash how we'd have it. The black one was swirled badly!!! I don't like the "beige" interior...it's weirdly 2-toned. A brownish not quite gray with tan middles... :dunno: So any of the colors with that interior rates low for me. They didn't have a blue one, but they did have the same blue on a Pilot, that I saw in the daylight. I still like it.
So I guess I need to see what color the white interior is.... :dunno: I haven't looked it up yet.
I'm not impressed by our local dealer's sales dept. We'll see how it goes later....I bet they won't be the ones selling us a Rigdgeline if we decide we want one!! :)
dragoncoach 03-04-2006, 02:53 PM I don't think I've read it mentioned in the Pilot forum. From the 2 posts with starting problems, the thing in common seems to be that they are '03s. Not sure if it has any bearing but I've never had a starting problem. As previously mentioned, it may be the chip in the key. We still love our Pilot.
princess 03-04-2006, 03:03 PM There's an article at the end of this service news
Maybe I was hurrying too much! :dunno: So I pushed too hard.
Accord4Life 03-04-2006, 03:36 PM Hm. This article is interesting. This morning I know I wasn't pushing hard, as all my muscles were still asleep. I decided to use the pilot today and this reoccored 2 times out of the 6 times I had to start it. The 2nd time it did it, I had what Princess had. The crank, crank, nothing. Then I once again took the key out and reinserted it. Worked fine. 3rd time was like this morning. It just didn't do anything. Tomorrow Im going to try and use the other key, maybe something is wrong with the main key??? It shows moderate wear. I think the 96' Accord is showing age on the tumbler. It gets stuck when you try to start it. Bad news too becuase then I'll have to have 2 different keys. One for the engine, and one for the doors. This happened to my friend Gina's 98 Ody. (Has the Immobilizer though). Anyway's I'll get an appointent for the Pilot, and let everyone know what was wrong and/or needed replacing. Overall I still love my Pilot! This IS however the 2nd thing to go bad on me during my month or so of ownership... :lmao: :lmao: . The last thing was the DVD player.
Mike
hermann 03-04-2006, 04:12 PM Today I saw a top-of-line 4wd Ridgeline in the Red color. Looked real nice, but it was at 5:30pm on a cloudy day.
princess 03-04-2006, 04:13 PM Well, I'm curious abut what happens with this.... ( the weird lack of starts)
On the Ridgeline front....the only ones without the beige are the silver & blue... :dunno: So if it's up to me.....well, I think the blue would be the one. But it's not going to be mine.....so I'm just the sidekick in this one! :lmao:
princess 03-04-2006, 04:14 PM It's the same red as our Pilot....I really LOVE the color!! I just like it better with the gray insides!
JWesG2 03-04-2006, 05:15 PM I really really really like the white Pilots-- My opinion probobly doesnt matter LOL--
Plus.. My friend.. and Honda salesman, john-- has a green Ridgeline-- hes 22 btw..
TRICKED out with honda accessories..
It is SO pimp-- I need to take a pic to show you-- U'd love it..
My chices would either be White/Silver
IMO-The steel blue is too sissy-- Its supposed to be a TRUCK (its already kinda a sissy truck compared to some others.. But i still love it)
Plus--u'd have 2 blue vehicles in the driveway-- wouldnt that be boring?
GO WHITE!!
princess 03-04-2006, 05:30 PM BUT THE WHITE HAS THAT YUCKY INSIDE!!!
Hey the blue isn't sissy!! They'd be completely different colors of blue! Plus different driveways.... :lmao:
I really do like the white outside, I just wish they'd put it with another interior. The choices are beige or green. Sorry, but neither has my vote. White should have black or gray inside or at least a solid color. That stripe down the center of the seat is icky!!
There's an article about how women are treated by dealers..& I can certainly confirm it. I was treated like a brainless ditz. I doubt if we'll buy from there.... they weren't willing to do any work to find the Pilot & they likely won't this time either. :dunno:
princess 03-05-2006, 10:46 AM I haven't been able to find any info on whether or not the Ridgeline's Nav has the trip computer.....anyone know???? It's not on the honda factory site.
Also what's zagat???? It seems to be some sort of rating system for businesses..... :dunno:
Soul Man 03-05-2006, 10:50 AM I haven't been able to find any info on whether or not the Ridgeline's Nav has the trip computer.....anyone know???? It's not on the honda factory site.
Also what's zagat???? It seems to be some sort of rating system for businesses..... :dunno:
zagats is a rating system for restauraunts from what i understand, i cant believe you dont know it, i mena i never really did myslef, but i thought everyone had sen that SNL skit where chris farley plays a woman who bought her husband zagats guide for his birthday...
"oh look hank, trish bought us zagats, we used to have one but hank...misplaced ours"
i know very off topic but i still miss chris farley, what a funny guy, shame he died so young, makes me wnat to go rent beverly hills ninja, which i think im goign to do
princess 03-05-2006, 11:31 AM We don't watch SNL..... :dunno:
It sounded like a food spot rating thing, but I'd really never heard of it. It's in the Ridgeline's PDI list.
I guess I'll have to find one on a lot that has Nav to see if they have the trip computer. I love having it in the Accord.... seeing the MPG going up & down as we're toodling along is cool!
psyshack 03-05-2006, 11:48 AM You sure you want a Ridgeline?
A guy at work bought a Silver one. On top of being ugly it busted my shins when I jumped in the passenger front seat with the seat all the way back. That lower passanger dash shelf or what ever it is needs to be taken out. I got out of it and went to lunch with another buddy that has a real truck. Not a UTE like the Ridge.
princess 03-05-2006, 12:00 PM If it's just the passengerside leg room.....it wouldn't be a problem. I'm the regular passenger & leg room has NEVER been a problem for me. ... :lmao:
stevencrosbie 03-05-2006, 08:27 PM I love having it in the Accord.... seeing the MPG going up & down as we're toodling along is cool!
Hahaha...in your case mostly down right? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
My parents have that in their car. I don't like to see it b/c I hate to see my mileage decrease :bawl:
princess 03-06-2006, 06:54 AM There's a radar thing in the RL that sounds a proximity alarm & will keep you at the spped of the car in front of you when on CC. If they change lanes, you will resumme your set speed.....kinda cool. As long as you can turn it off too!!
Yep, I watch my MPG go down....especially when he's filled it up then had a few freeway miles on it.... I can drop it from 28 to 18 in one morning!! :paranoid: The best (worse) I've done is dropping it from 32 to 15 in a full day of errands!! Sometimes after those long freeway trips I feel the need for taking the challenges at the lights!!! And when some of my errands make me go past the high school....... :dunno: it's not my fault!!! :lmao:
stevencrosbie 03-06-2006, 08:01 AM Just imagine the damage you could do in a Ridgeline? I bet you could get single digits :lmao:
Not to poke fun though, I bet you have the most fun out of all of us when you drive
princess 03-06-2006, 10:17 AM Roughly estimating I get about the same in the Pilot as he does aorund town... It has knobbier tires & only gets about the advertised & normally he does better than that.
I think it's fun to screw up his mileage though!! :lmao: Friday he'd left it with me with a full tank.....big mistake!!!
princess 03-06-2006, 04:59 PM Got my first online quote from a local dealer...for the RTL with moonroof & Nav: 31,714. That's nearly 3K under MSRP. Can't wait to see what the others have to say!! :)
BenjiBoy650 03-06-2006, 05:06 PM Got my first online quote from a local dealer...for the RTL with moonroof & Nav: 31,714. That's nearly 3K under MSRP. Can't wait to see what the others have to say!! :)
Holy begeezus almost 35K MSRP for a Honda pickup! No wonder the manufacturers love trucks, they must be cash cows!
princess 03-06-2006, 05:18 PM It was about the same for the Pilot & not much different than my Accord....when going the top of the line versions is costs more.
princess 03-07-2006, 07:58 AM This morning we went on to explore a ridgeline forum. It's set up kinda like this one.... they have a Service Bulletin area that really doesn't have any bulletins. There hasn't been much anyway....but they don't seem to understand what a bulletin is.
I suppose IF we do buy one, I'll join up..... but although the vibe isn't as crude as some....but not like home (here). If we do buy one I guess I could help out over there & post the "offical" info & see what happens. I bookmarked it, just in case..... :dunno:
HarlemV6Honda 03-07-2006, 10:52 AM I have to admit that I'm not a fan of the Ridgeline or pickups in general, but I do agree with Princess' comment about the need for a black or grey leather interior color paired with a Taffeta White exterior. There's nothing quite like that contrast, except maybe the Satin Silver Metallic with the Black leather interior. :notworthy Has anyone driven the Ridgeline? If so, how is the power of the V6 in the Ridgeline? The idea that it might be underpowered would concern me, especially when a few of its competitors offer V8s.
stiller fan 03-07-2006, 10:59 AM you know, i was reading the brochure on the ridgeline when they first came out....
it specifically said that it is not a real truck..... only used as a "sometimes" truck, so to speak.... they also stated that if you need heavy hauling capacity often, go elsewhere....
that truck is more suited for occasional hauling and the like, for instance if you're doing re-modeling in your home and need a bed for plywood, 2x4's, etc..... or maybe a picnic...
princess 03-07-2006, 11:36 AM It was AFTER driving some that my prince fell in love with them. The Pilot hauls our boat (3400 lb.) up & over a steep long local bridge easier than our Chevy Silverado with the 454 engine in it. And the Ridgeline has more HP than the Pilot & rated for a higher towing capacity.
I guess we're "sometimes" truck users.... we've hauled sheetrock, wood, cement & all sorts of things in & on the Pilot. The Ridgeline is wider & the bed a bit longer.... :dunno:
The white has a choice of beige or green interior...I think the green maybe in the cloth only....
I have a few more quotes now.
Lodi Honda says 30,200 for the RTL S/R Nav.
Elk Grove Honda says 30,214 for it
Tracy Honda can't seem to figure out what blue is vs. silver! (3 emails & they still don't get it!)
I haven't heard back from Concord Honda.
Walnut Creek said 31,714
No word from Dublin Honda yet.
I have also contacted a couple of those online quote things....so we'll see.
THEN it will be the selling price AND the trade in for the Pilot.... I don't want to GIVE it away! I know we won't get as much as we paid since it's the top model & you never do. KBB says 23K & change, but they don't even ask about the camera or many extras.
IF we do go for a Ridgeline we'll add speakers, foglights, camera, sideboards, rack, maybe iVes, side molding, brush garnish for the front bumper...... it's about 5-6K in parts. Like we did for the Pilot.
We're also kicking around the idea of adding the iVes to the Accord..... :dunno:
BenjiBoy650 03-07-2006, 03:28 PM I don't know how you guys manage to tow a friggin boat over that bridge...my car has trouble keeping speed on it! When I drove the Ridgeline it felt absolutely gutless...I like the Pilot better
princess 03-07-2006, 03:44 PM The Pilot doesn't even break out a sweat!! We go over it at 65 mph with the A/C on from the stop at the toll booth. It's a great place to test drive things!! The Antioch bridge is quite a doozie, huh??? :lmao:
The Chevy would do it....but it seemed to grunt some when it did. Now it IS heavier & louder.....
He's been enjoying driving those Ridgelines at the shop!!
BenjiBoy650 03-07-2006, 03:47 PM The Chevy would do it....but it seemed to grunt some when it did. Now it IS heavier & louder.....
Well they make nice low end torque but it's definitely not a revver, so overall power at higher RPM's you would need to climb the bridge probably is around the same as the Pilot, but with more weight to lug. VTEC > displacement...of course, displacement + VTEC is :naughty:
princess 03-07-2006, 05:54 PM Just heard from Concord Honda....their pricce is 30,374.... they had the best trade in for the '02 when we bought the '03 Accord..... :dunno:
Tracy Honda is still being stupid & trying to talk me into a silver one.
No word from Dublin yet.
I did find the list of all the steel blue trim levels in CA!! So I can pull that up again when/if we do decide to go for it.
I'm a shopper (professionally  ) so I'll have all this homework done...then if we decide a Ridgeline is what we're doing it should be just a matter of who gives me the the best trade-in & price combo!
We'll likely have one first day out! :D
stevencrosbie 03-07-2006, 07:33 PM I drove the Ridgeline twice before I bought my Accord. I know I wanted a manual, but that truck is hard to pass up. I thought it had plenty of power for a truck, but its acceleration at highway speeds left me with something to be desired. I really liked how it handled and how heavy it felt. It was a very stable drive.
I think its a great vehicle and would have one over the Pilot. The only thing that really worried me was gas mileage. I like to drive and didn't want to be averaging <20MPG. :headbash:
Its still a nice truck! Sometimes I wish I would have bought one...then I just into my car and shift away
princess 03-07-2006, 07:39 PM The mpg is about the same as the Pilot...so that wouldn't be such a shock....& I'll still have the Accord!
stevencrosbie 03-07-2006, 07:43 PM I think it is a great vehicle and since you have the Accord.....I'd def. get a Ridgeline if I could. I like the idea of having a truck. In your case, I think I read something every week where your hauling stuff for the yard or the home. No more cleaning the interior of the Pilot.
Just wash your car out! Just don't try to Zaino the bed :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

tracy honda sounds like some honda places i've talked with in the past... they all want to sell you xx color regardless of what you say. hey, same goes for transmission. (i'v ehad them try to talk me into an automatic more times than i can count! :lmao: )

That's why I'm not picky with color! Give me the one that comes with the best price (except black...not owning another black car after the ML).
princess 03-08-2006, 04:10 PM I think it's too big of an investment to not be "in love" with the looks.... color inside & out.
Don't get me wrong....I still think the Ridgeline in one ugly truck....but so are the rest of 'em. :dunno:
Yeah, we haul lots of stuff! I'd love to not worry quite as much about it. I've cleaned sheetrock dust out of nooks & crannies in the Pilot so many times it's pitiful!! We like to have clean vehicles & yet we do use them.... so the mud, sawdust, sheetrock dust, sand, cement, you name it has been cleaned out every time.
stevencrosbie 03-08-2006, 05:51 PM We like to have clean vehicles & yet we do use them.... so the mud, sawdust, sheetrock dust, sand, cement, you name it has been cleaned out every time.
I agree! I seem to be always cleaning my car. I also agree that you should pick a color that you love. You are spending over 30k for the truck. I like the Ridgeline b/c it looks unique. Sometimes you just like to have something different!
Yeah for the RED V6 emblem
BenjiBoy650 03-08-2006, 05:54 PM Yeah for the RED V6 emblem
Hey ricer those emblems cost me money, if they didn't put emblems on the car they might lower the price by like, 2 bucks! :lmao: Seriously a lot of people debadge the car anyway...
stevencrosbie 03-08-2006, 06:00 PM I'm am def. not a ricer. My car comes standard w/ that emblem.

debadging, an "art form" i'll never understand..... looks like someone has ripped off your emblems. does it make it cool that the car looks like something was stolen from it or something?? or does it reduce friction and increase horsepower by 10??? :lmao:

also reminds me of this punk in highschool who had a prelude and got it "custom painted" a magenta color, changed out the wipers to only have one large one, debadged the entire car, removed the door handles, and some other really screwed up stuff.... i would've loved to push that car and him off a cliff. the poor car didn't deserve that kind of torture.....

actually i think at one point he ended up with an arrest warrant. an old friend of mine had been in "love" with him at one point and always heard the updates on what he was doing lately. :lmao:
SSMV6 03-09-2006, 12:58 PM People debadge because it's a cheap way to make your car look a little different than all the other cars on the road... My reason for it is simply because I didn't want to advertise for the car dealerships and car manufacturers for free... I got no problem with debadging.. The other stuff such as custom painting and shaving door handles, Lambo-doors, spinners, flip top trunk  on the other hand... :screwy:  :deal:
stevencrosbie 03-09-2006, 01:00 PM I'm proud of my Honda. I just leave the badges on....
Maybe I'm just lazy though.

i would never advertise for a dealership, those stickers better not be on my car in the first place.
but hey, everyone knows a honda is a honda, a toyota is a toyota, etc.... badges or not, doesn't change the appearance except to say, hey, who stole the badges from your car?
SSMV6 03-09-2006, 01:12 PM I also didn't want everyone on the streets to know that my car is an EX V6... I like to keep them guessing. :naughty:

stevencrosbie 03-09-2006, 01:23 PM Don't shoot me, but I think the new Sonata is a pretty decent car. In no way is it better than a Honda, but I think its pretty good. Their reliablility has improved and their customer relations are pretty good. My dad has a TL and my mom has a Sonata. They both love it and they got it with every option for 20k out the door.
Not bad....

eh, as long as they luck out without problems..... know one person in particular that that was not the case for.... ironically had compared an accord dx and a sonata when she got it. (accord lost due to lack of features/cost-she didn't talk to me, i would've explained something to her....)anyway...... a few months down the road, not happy at all with her purchase. making a long story much much shorter there.....

stiller fan 03-09-2006, 01:34 PM will be sold on possibly getting one if it holds up long-term......
til then, will drive either my current car, or a newer honda.....
princess 03-09-2006, 02:37 PM In the PHX paper I saw a 2-toned ridgeline....red & black... they wanted 47K for it. UM, NO!!
I'll keep Honda 'badges" on....but here, we don't usually have to worry about dealer ones....they don't use them. Just plate frames. IF they did put stickers or badges on, they'd be coming off as soon as it came home!
I like the Pilot..... I'm not quite sold on the idea of the Ridgeline yet. I like being able to stop by & get the big stuff THEN the little stuff. Like loading up the plasma TV before stopping by to get milk on the way home. In a pick-up I'd feel the need to babysit the stuff in the back...... :dunno:
I've given him till the end of March to talk me into it.....
I like the Ridgeline as far as pick-ups go.....I'm just not sure I want a pick-up at this point.
Being able to haul 8 butts....
Closing the back up.....
Tows fine.....
Matches the boat.....
Vs.
A few more bells & whistles.....
Voice Nav.....
A few more horses....
Hauling bigger stuff....
:dunno:

Better yet (to me, at least -- there are some substantial differences between the two that other folks might prefer one way over the other) is the new....
2006.5 Kia Optima. (http://optima.kia.com/)
I like the styling, I think the dash is tons better than the new Sonata, and (I'm sorry, folks), but the thing isn't screwed together by American workers. The new Optima is made in Korea. Again, I'm sorry, but my ultra-ultra-rattly rattletrap Ohio-built Accord coupe is that way either by "Honda design" or "ultra-crappy assembly" -- take your pick. After a half-dozen trips to the dealer over two months for interior issues, I've fallen back into full-blown "I'm gonna drive this ultra-rattly rattletrap off a cliff and into the ocean" mode right now. Crimony, let me try to figure out what DOESN'T rattle, buzz, jiggle, or otherwise add to the overall misery of driving this thing every mile I go. All I can say is that anything that's not "made in America" is catching my interest these days, and this looks to be a contender....

find a japanese built accord or civic or tsx.... you'll be much happier than korea built kia hunk of junk sheet metal that will have many more major issues than a simple rattle to drive you nuts....
or heck, move on over to toyota. maybe their rattles will bug you less than honda's. but for the love of whoever you want to worship, run, don't walk, away from the hyundai/kia lineup.
anysia 03-10-2006, 07:06 AM Was it one of the new 2006 models? The old ones were boring junk.
i believe it was an 05, maybe 04.5 ore some random crud like that. anyway, into the models that everyone was highly praising for such hugely improved reliability and all that crud.
ever wonder why hyundai continuously comes out with new models? the last one was a piece of junk... i give the "new and improved" another eh, year and a half before hyundai decides to redesign it and rip of some more styles from other car co's...... :lmao:

There IS a tail gate thing.... on some a part isn't lined up just right & it won't work in "swing" mode.

Hehehehe. Finding a Japanese-built Accord is pretty difficult these days, especially in the kind of EX-L / automatic configuration I'd be looking for.
What bugs me about Toyota is how anything less than a full-boat Camry has a truly awful seat/driving position combination -- just abominable, but they seem to have decided to stick with it. Which is really frustrating, because I've been driving Toyotas for about 30 years, during which I've been quite pleased with their driver seats and how I fit in them.
So, what on earth is it that you or folks you know have experienced from Hyundai/Kia that has been so awful? Enquiring minds would like to know!
stevencrosbie 03-10-2006, 11:36 AM My parents love their 2006 LX Sonata.
I would have purchased the Azera....but I wanted a manual....
The new Korean cars are nice and are great values.
princess 03-10-2006, 12:11 PM The Sonata we drove as a rental was gutless.... :dunno: Less room than I'm used to also....even in the trunk. :)
SSMV6 03-10-2006, 12:18 PM The last Hyundai I drove was an elantra or something or another with around 60k on the ODO... Brakes were bad, it was gutless, seats were horrible, ride was horrible and the engine sounded like it was going to fall out from under the car at any moment... I'm sure it's gotten better, but I'm not about to be the guinea pig.
princess 03-10-2006, 12:25 PM Since we're SUPPOSED to get snow....I teased about keeping the Pilot this morning...... :lmao:
stevencrosbie 03-10-2006, 12:36 PM The new Sonata's trunk is 2 cubic feet bigger than the Accord.
Other than that, I still love my Accord and would not go back.
Accord scored a lot of points when the manual was introduced. I am still really turned off of automatics after the last one.
stiller fan 03-10-2006, 02:45 PM Since we're SUPPOSED to get snow....I teased about keeping the Pilot this morning...... :lmao:
if you have a good set of all-season tires, you'll be able to get by with those.... i know that you don't almost ever get snow, correct?
one suggestion tho: start in d2 when there's snow on the roads, and drop it down to 1 (first gear) when coming to stop, to help to slow down car, and to keep from ABS working overtime.....
^^^ from resident weather geek / snow lover
princess 03-10-2006, 03:07 PM My Accord still has the OEM's on it..... I've been doing my part ot wear them out!!
There was a little black ice on the bridges this morning. They say we'll get some tomorrow too!! The Antioch bridge is one of the few that's actually been closed from ice!
BenjiBoy650 03-10-2006, 06:10 PM Forecasts say Antioch is supposed to receive snow overnight, and many areas are also getting flakes down to sea level, with local peaks with 2" at 1000ft and 3-6" at 3000+ :notworthy
stiller fan 03-10-2006, 06:15 PM enjoy it, it probably won't last long....
hey ben, when was the last time that you seen, or driven in, snow??? :)
BenjiBoy650 03-10-2006, 06:42 PM Bout a year ago, ran through the biggest storm of the year in Tahoe. I only got thru about 6 miles in four hours because of chain controls. After I got through chain controls, headed up Donner pass...maybe 10 miles? 20 miles? After I got through they closed the pass overnight due to white out conditions with 130MPH gusts.
princess 03-10-2006, 06:44 PM It snowed & stuck in Brentwood today!!!
Accord4Life 03-18-2006, 10:59 AM Ahh crud.
I just got a call from my wife, Karen, and she told me the Pilot isn't turning over. And now Im kicking myself in the head for not making that appointment before I left for Italy! I called a tow truck, and Honda Road Side Assistance. Apparently they are to bring her a rental car??? Or reimburse her for one. She's at the grocery store right now, so I guess I'll head over there and pick her up. Tow truck won't be there for another 45minutes...
Frustration...

Accord4Life 03-18-2006, 01:45 PM You're a funny one Josh...
Ok I went to the Grocery Store where Karen was, and I try to start the bugger, and I get a ticking (just 3 ticks then no more). It gave me the sound I get from my 96' Accord when I accidentaly set the alarm when Im inside of it and try to start it, but the engine kill won't let me. So I guess the Fuel Pump? Anyways the Pilot got towed to the dealer. I was offered reimbursement for a rental car until the Dealer opens up on monday and they can give me a loaner, but I said no for right now becuase I can just drive my 89' Accord and let Karen drive the 96'. Although we might need the Pilot since we signed up to drive the kids' soccer team to a game on Tues.
SO TIRED OF CAR ISSUES!
Weird thing is, the Pilot was fine yesterday. I had it in with our regular Honda Specialists for a trnsmission fluid change, and they check eveverything before a customer picks up their car as part of their 250pt inspection.
I await the call from the Honda dealer on monday!
BenjiBoy650 03-18-2006, 01:47 PM Sounds a lot like a dead battery to me?
SSMV6 03-18-2006, 01:52 PM Did you try jumping the car? A fast ticking sound when you're trying to crank usually means the battery is dead.
princess 03-18-2006, 01:59 PM Well, 3 years is common for the battery life.... :thumbsdow I've kinda been expecting to get woke up one morning by the announcment...."I'm taking the Accord...so you have no car today. I'll bring a battery home."
Now THAT would be a RUDE awakening!! :lmao:
When our Pilot was "moody" she did the "nanananananana", without starting. AND the booger has been fine since!!! She just wanted to embarrass me!! :D
Accord4Life 03-18-2006, 02:00 PM No, I really didn't try jumping it to be honest. But the inspection the shop performed yesterday says right on the recipt that it includes a 'Battery Voltage, and charge Test' and it says pass. So Im not sure! Hm. I might just go over to that dealer again and pop the hood and try to jump it. Although the battery in there looks really new. Only things I know were replaced when the car was certified when traded in, were the tires, and brakes. Some Recalls were also performed. Anyways I guess Im gonna go over there and try to jump it. Really didn't seem like a dead battery though...
Mike

Ha! If only. It could possibly have been their fault really. Idk how thorough that inspection is but it could be that.
SSMV6 03-18-2006, 02:08 PM If you have a multimeter, bring that with you and check the voltage on the battery... Anything less than 11.6v and it would mean your battery needs a jump. A fully charged battery is about 12.4v. If it's not dead, then don't jump it and let the shop handle it... ;)

You could just turn on the lights and stereo and roll down the windows
Theoretically...it should be 13.2V (2.2V/cell x 6 cell) but I don't think I've seen a battery that high. I think even my 6 year old AC Delco battery that came from the factory in my Honda (440CCA, size 35) had 12.6V.
princess 03-18-2006, 02:17 PM Anyone can leave something loose....so YEP, I'd say the inspection COULD cause it.... driving it coulda jiggled it looser. :dunno: Mistakes happen!

it just all depends on how many the girl has had tho... :lmao: :drink: :salue:
SSMV6 03-18-2006, 02:27 PM Could be a problem with the alternator if the battery checks out fine..
(unhooked, loose connection, loose belt, or dead alternator)
Ben, I gotta leave the simple solutions to someone else. :D I could always think of 15 steps to do a job that 2 steps could accomplish! :lmao:
ItsaHonda 03-18-2006, 02:28 PM The original Delco battery in my 96 lasted 7 years before it finally died. It had just enough juice for the engine to (barely) crank over so I could get her down to the parts store. The battery survived two Michigan winters and Florida summers during its final two years. I was lucky to get 2 good years out of the Delco batteries in my GM vehicles... :dunno:
stiller fan 03-18-2006, 02:29 PM if it was a problem with the alternator tho (not charging battery), the light would have been on yesterday, correct??? :dunno:
ItsaHonda 03-18-2006, 02:31 PM Being that it's a Delphi alternator, I wouldn't be at all surprised!

Accord4Life 03-18-2006, 02:39 PM Ok well since everyone has brought up all these somewhat 'scary' things like altenators, and loose wires :lmao: , I've decided to let them handle it. It has a 7yr 100k warrantee anyways...
Mike!
P.S. - Everyone is very helpful here, and for that I am blessed. Im glad that we are becoming a family that helps one another again, and so quickly at that.
Cheers!

I need to go out & wash my poor Accord.....OH the BUGS!!!!!
SSMV6 03-22-2006, 02:10 PM Why do you need price quotes from other dealerships? Prince doesn't get a discount for working for Honda?? Does the dealer discount only apply to salesmen? :dunno:
princess 03-22-2006, 04:26 PM :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: um, NO!!
We bought all 3 other new Hondas at different dealerships. In fact, the '02 I was quoted 500 less than HE was as an employee!! We bought it somewhere else. I don't have any loyality to a dealership since they don't have a loyality to us. Just like anyone else!!
I did hear form Walnut Creek Honda again, They have come down to 30,214 & will give us 20,500...sight unseen for the Pilot! Best offer so far!!
samsonskeg 03-22-2006, 04:36 PM hehee your dealerships ****s then :P
Our honda dealership is awesome :P Random greeting phone calls, everyone always remembers you etc. They always let me test drive new cars without questions :)

The Ody's blue is "ocean" & slightly different...so you can't judge by those you see....
princess 03-23-2006, 01:00 PM Well, it looks like the winner is Walnut Creek Honda..... they may have one for us tomorrow. I think we'll wait & pick it up after school on Monday. It would break Nicholas' little heart if he wasn't part of it all!!
CA05LXDriver 03-23-2006, 01:29 PM Ya know after considering getting an F150 supercrew for $22K, the Ridgeline looks good if I can get one for $25k~ish. I never really looked at the Ridgeline until I saw this thread, but it definitely beats the F150 in many ways.....
Edit: I just looked and I can indeed get the RT for $24K +T&L... not bad if you consider it has AWD! I wonder if I can chisel them any lower!? :naughty:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm... let us know how you like yours

If his dealer wont give you a good deal on the rig and find it for you.. I'd start loading my tool box's and tell them the _uck off. When your good at what you do jobs are a dime a dozen. They should sell him that truck at the truthful private cost. Not the so called invoice price.
I just sold a buddy of mine a $28k dollar boiler package for cost at $10,920.00. I told the owner he was a life long buddy of mine. No reason to profit off him. I thanked the owner and we did the deal.
And hes been there how long? I would quit them on princple.

Haahah pretty soon they'll be at 455 ;). Every so often I think of buying one of those... awesome cars.
princess 03-24-2006, 07:15 AM He's put WAY too many years in at the dealer he's at to walk away now....after all there IS a mortgage to pay!! They don't treat anyone very well....so he's not so different. There's been a handful of people that know just the right ones that get treated nicely....but the norm is the feeling that techs are a "dime a dozen". Of course, trained ones may cost "2 bits"... :lmao:
Anyway, he's not surprised. We bought the '02 in Pittsburg, they gave ME the best deal. We bought the Pilot in Corona because they had the color & model we wanted. We bought the '03 Accord in Concord because they gave a great trade-in for the '02 & they found the '03 I wanted & had it trucked up from Santa Maria!
Blue Ridgelines with Nav aren't very common....wouldn't you know! (that was the same thing with my Accord) If they can't find one that hasn't had a bunch added to it already, we'll have them find one the first week of April when the next load comes in.
We do free things for friends & family all the time.... but a jobs a jobs... :dunno: everyone kinda wants to see more on those paychecks, even the salespeople. There should be a set rule for employees when car buying though. They have one for parts.
princess 03-24-2006, 07:20 AM The 442 had a 400 engine in it & it could pass anything but a gas station!! :lmao:
His buddy bought a '71 442 with a 455 in it & it wasn't as quick as the '67 with the 400. (shorter stroke) Last night his sister was disappointed that we don't still have it. Shows how much attention she pays...we sold it BEFORE they moved to MD!! :)
I used to happen to look at the clock every day at 4:42 when he was working till 5. It was weird. I wouldn't even think about it....then just look up & there it was! :D
princess 03-24-2006, 07:43 AM Ya know after considering getting an F150 supercrew for $22K, the Ridgeline looks good if I can get one for $25k~ish. I never really looked at the Ridgeline until I saw this thread, but it definitely beats the F150 in many ways.....
According to the Chevy commercials the Ford 150 doesn't have duel climate control.... the Ridgeline does!!! :D
We really don't need more pull power, the Pilot has done wonderfully in that area. I think he just misses having a Pick-up sometimes. There's more brick work I want done in the back yard.... getting the pellets in the Winter for the fireplace would be easier.... :dunno:
I still wish we could give the Pilot to the kids..... but he wants to not pay so much cash for the Ridgeline or finance any of it.... He also can't deal with them neglecting it, which the one I understand the most!!
stevencrosbie 03-24-2006, 09:26 AM Even I'm anxious to see your new blue Ridgeline. I really like that truck......but I didn't want it to be my only vehicle.
Its my single most regret with the Accord. I still toy with the idea of a having a Ridgeline.....but I love having my car and its great gas mileage.
stiller fan 03-24-2006, 09:31 AM if i had the money, i still would not get a ridge..... no knee room for me.... :(
OTOH tho, i would get a loaded accord tho... :D
princess 03-24-2006, 10:36 AM He's thinking about putting iVes in the Accord....I'm not sure now. I wanted the headrest screens, but they're not as easy to find as 2 years ago. If we do the ceiling kind, I'd insist on Honda so it's intergrated with the Nav.
I think the mpg will be about the same as the Pilot. SO commuting in the Ridgeline should make any real difference there.
I don't think it a bad ONLY vehicle since it holds the same amount of people as the Accord. But the only thing I'll ever give up my Accord for is a newer one or an RL. :D I really love my car!!!

I'm the same way. I could never give up the car. A truck would have to be an additional vehicle. Oh man...the new RL or the M35x....those are sweet cars.
andysinnh 03-24-2006, 03:33 PM Princess - As you can see in the very tiny picture :D my '06 Pilot is steel blue. First, make sure you check the paint job to make sure you don't have blotchiness like my hood/roof do. Working with the district rep to see what they'll do. I may opt for "accessories" vs a repaint, but we'll see. But the non-blotchy areas (90% of the truck) is a great color. In the sunlight the metallic pops like crazy and you get a pretty nice blue color. When cloudy, the paint sort of gets grey-ish. I'm colorblind, so can't see any "green" when I look at it, but there could be. The thing about this color is that it isn't flashy but you can still tell it's blue, and it doesn't show dirt too badly (which was my goal with getting the color).
fyi - the cheap internet sites up here give a price of $30,600 for the one you're looking at - but they don't have any blue. :thumbsdow
have fun shopping!
andy
princess 03-24-2006, 04:00 PM Um, cool! Another for the "no green' catagory!! :D
When he gets it, I'm going to be teased for years about it looking green to him!! That's probably why he wants the color.....the torment factor! :lmao:
He called at lunch yesterday to get my driver's license number....I know his, but neither one of know mine. The guy filling out the paperwork was cracking up at our bantering. That's us!
I think he's going to put the front grill on that only has chrome on the H & the edges. I think that's the non stock one.
I see them so easy going down the road....it's llike a BIG "H" coming at me!!
The Pilot seems big & I'm having a hard time imagining driving the Ridgeline!! This will be fun!!
If we notice a blotchy anything after the fact we won't have it repainted. I just don't like non factory paint. I don't trust them to match it well or do the clear coat right. So we'll have to check & double check before we take possession!! Thanks for the heads up!! My silver Accord had a small amount of blotchy to the sides...made it look like clouds. The shine was the same, but it was like the color paint was thinner in some spots. We picked it up at night...so we had signed everything, then saw it the next day! The Ridgeline will be looked at in the daytime. We learned our lesson!! It's hard to remember when you're excited about a new vehicle though!! :paranoid:
psyshack 03-24-2006, 04:18 PM Im going to take my Ranger to the Casino tonight!!! And haul some money.
15K new and its paided for. And has more leg room than a Ridgeline. I dont bust my shins in it when drunk and the wife drives me home. If I had a Ridgeline and the wife drove us home cause of my partying ways I would bust that stupid lower tray right out of the dash on the passenger side. I still have have tender spots on my shins from when i jumped in the one that a guy at work owns.
I love my Ranger. It ,,, just today showed up the shin busting Ridgeline at work. Dude that owns it wanted to deliver a pump in it. A 50hp B&G 1510 series end suction pump. Got it in there barely with that sort of bed. And then had to put a peice of plywood over the trap door trunk to boot. It set the Ridgeline way way low. He made the block and came back. he didnt want to haul that in his suburban cross over truck. So I put it in the back of my Ranger with the fork lift and drove off in my little 4 banger no problems at all. made my wages plus .40 a mile from the company and $1.00 a mile for del. fee.
Funny thing is,,, he traded a Ranger in to get the Ridgeline. That was the second time the Ranger out hauled the Honda. And the second time he felt like a fool for buying the Ridge.....
They are not a truck!!!
This is a little truck with a big heart.

I truly hope the Ridgeline works out Princess and the one you all want is found at a steller price....
andysinnh 03-24-2006, 04:51 PM If we notice a blotchy anything after the fact we won't have it repainted. I just don't like non factory paint. In our case, when I first looked at the Pilot, it had the plastic covering on the hood/roof. When we took delivery, it was bright and sunny in mid-december, so besides shivering a bit :D it looked real good at delivery. It was after I had it for a while and happened to see my wife drive out of the garage (our bedroom is over the garage) I noticed the blotchiness on the hood and roof. Looks like one of the paint guns wasn't spraying as smooth as it could. Anyway, the only time you see it is on a cloudy day, and you have to really look to see it. I may opt to get a factory bug deflector and have Honda pay for it and not get it repainted. Like you, I don't really like aftermarket paint, and the matching of the metallic "shade" and the overall color is always a crap shoot - so the devil you know....
Overall I love the 06 Pilot - the engine and tranny "changes" since the wife's 04 make it much more fun to drive - and it's put together really well.
Let us know what happens!
andy
princess 03-25-2006, 12:27 PM They found us a Ridgeline!!! It still has the plastic, so no add-ons or miles on it!!! We'll take possession on Monday.
Sunday we'll wash & clear out the Pilot. He didn't leave it for me since there wasn't any point since they didn't have one yet.
Monday after school we'll take Nicholas over there so he can think he helped pick it out! It'll make his day!!
We don't really need a pick-up for putting stuff in the bed part... just pellets mostly, which we've done in the Pilot just fine. It's just a few blocks & so that ton comes home gently, but does come home in it just fine.
We'll be pulling with it more than filling the bed. The lid for the bed trunk can hold lots of weight, so I'm not worried about that on those Home Depot runs. It's usually lumber anyway.
If by chance we need a "real" truck, there's always the '78 Chevy here. That old 454 hasn't ever had a problem with the load. It just takes time to use it since Jacob uses it for work & the back has a shell & the bed is FULL of his crap. Ladders & many, many boxes of stuff....tools & the other things an electrician needs.
I'll share pictures as our changes get made to it....
Now if I can get him to stop calling it GREEN!!!!!! :lmao:
andysinnh 03-25-2006, 03:11 PM Princess - congrats in advance! I'm sure you'll love it. We took my '06 today up north to a high school band concert event, so it got a good hour drive both ways - I do love the '06 much better than the '04 - much more of a "hot rod" - not sure if it's the drive-by-wire, the change in the gearing, or something else - but it's great!
Oh, and tell the prince that even a color-blind guy like me, who things everything has a green or brown tint, can't see any green in the steel blue metallic color. Hey - if he wants green, tell him to look at the Amazon green - now THAT'S green (and I'm not sure I'd like it after a few years - real "trendy" looking.... :lmao:
show us some pics!
andy
princess 03-25-2006, 03:23 PM He just knows how I feel about green...... so he went around asking the guys in the shop....he says they claim it's green...so now I get tormented!! :lmao:
Our daughter had a '94 "sage blue" Accord. Since it had a green interior, it was a minty green to me with a greenish gray interior. Most called it light blue. :dunno: Why would they put a green inside on a blue outside????
No, amazon green for him...... :D Nicholas would want it painted all cammo!! :lmao:
princess 03-25-2006, 03:25 PM I think the Pilot's feel different 'cuz of the DBW.... much the way of my '02 V6 vs. the '03 V6!!! But I don't have proof....just my experience. :dunno:
Accord4Life 03-25-2006, 06:56 PM UPDATE!
Sorry everyone, I forgot to post what happened with my 03' Pilot Starting issue. They problem was an Ignition switch, so now I have new keys. I actually had to argue with the dealer to get them to replace all the doors (Drivers door, tailgate) with matching keys. I was extremely ticked off about this, but thankfully they finally gave in (Im a lawyer, so I raised hell of course :lmao: ). All is well now though! It all works.
So Princess, maybe you need a new Ignition Switch???
Mike
princess 03-25-2006, 07:37 PM Looks like now it may be the next owner's problem :lmao: :dunno: If we KNEW what it was, it would be fixed before trade in.... I think it would be MEAN to let it going if we had that knowledge.
Accord4Life 03-26-2006, 05:33 AM I guess on my Pilot I was the next owner and it was my problem :lmao: . Hows the Ridgline idea working out. If the Mid cycle refresh is more inspiring to me on the front, I might just get one over an Accord (In 08' thast is), but I really do love Accords just because of the practicality/fun to drive factor.
princess 03-26-2006, 08:20 AM He ordered new speakers for the Ridge.....
INFBASSLINK | Infinity BassLink Enclosed Subw... | 1
INFKAPPA637I | Infinity Kappa 63.7i 3-Way Spea... | 2
And you should see his list for accessories!!!! :lmao: He printed out EVERYTHING Honda offers...then high-lighted what he's getting...this is gonna take months!!!! So I won't be seeing him on weekends for a while!!!
I ordered a new Eeyore decal for the back window.... you know with it's color, I'm thinking this truck's name just might end up being Eeyore. I guess I'll have make sure the voice is on male! :)
princess 03-26-2006, 02:01 PM Well, Belle got her last bath by us.....*sniff* Took off the window decals....*sniff*
princess 03-26-2006, 02:03 PM All the work she's done for us & the stuff she's hauled...& the back is still in great shape!!
*sniff*
princess 03-26-2006, 02:04 PM All the stuff is out of the glove bxes & cubbies
princess 03-26-2006, 02:04 PM So empty.............*sniff*
princess 03-26-2006, 02:12 PM I hadn't dried the engine off yet here....but she never had it dirty, has only ever needed a "dusting"....... *sniff*
I'm going to miss her a lot!! After she was all cleaned up we went to Home depot for lumber for my birthday present... he's making me a pedalstool (sp???) for the bed. So I'll have 4 more DEEP drawers for my stuff!! I forgot to take a few shots of her as our family workhorse for the last time!!!
:bawling: :boohoo: :bawling: :sorry: *sniff*
I'm gonna miss her!!!!
I love the way the red glistens in the sun when she's clean.
I love having butt space for extras.
I love how versatile she's been.
I love how she drives.
Oh, well, hopefully she'll get a good home...... :dunno:
b'bye Belle!!! :wavebye:
psyshack 03-26-2006, 02:20 PM Bye Bye SUV
Hello UTE
Why you clean it up so much? They arent going to give you a nickle more for your effort. Now the lot boy is just going to swirl up the paint.
princess 03-26-2006, 02:30 PM Yeah, I know....it's just a pride thing.... I'm one of those people that makes the bed & straightens up in hotels before the housekeeper comes in..... :lmao: :dunno:
princess 03-26-2006, 04:41 PM I just joined the ridgeline owners forum.... :dunno: I wonder how I'll be welcomed?? :paranoid: They don't let you have enough space to post bulletins.... oh well, their loss. That's one of many things that makes this one so wonderful!!
CA05LXDriver 03-27-2006, 11:58 AM Hey princess, I think you saved me. I cam very close to getting an F150 supercrew and there wasn't any vehicle in my mind that compared... until I read your post. As long as you don't post about it bursting into flames, there's a good chance I'll get one in June.
Reviews...Reviews... can't wait!
princess 03-27-2006, 05:48 PM The evening didn't go as planned....Nicholas was TOO quiet..... found out later why.... he didn't want to say goodbye to the Pilot either! He was nearly in tears (as was I).
princess 03-27-2006, 05:50 PM There was Ridgelines in white, red, silver & black...then ours. This is them "picking out" his favorite...luckily he wanted the blue one too!!! WHEW!!!
princess 03-27-2006, 05:51 PM We went ahead & got what we could of the accessories....some stuff won't be in for about a week.....
princess 03-27-2006, 05:55 PM THIS is the offical BEFORE picture....before all the stuff is added.....
He loves the way it feels.....I'm going to be going out in it in a few minutes by myself....
It was raining pretty hard for the "shopping", but in our garage we aren't finding paint flaws, except on tiny corner scratch on the bumper..... :dunno: Maybe the sun will be out tomorrow & we'll get a better look at it.
It fits in the garage!!!!! (barely) :paranoid: There's just enough room to walk in front of it to take out the trash.
BenjiBoy650 03-27-2006, 05:55 PM Niceeee...I only wish you kept the plate from the Pilot...good #'s!
psyshack 03-27-2006, 06:00 PM Looks great!!
Accord4Life 03-27-2006, 06:04 PM Congrats on the ridge! Now do me a favor and change the wheels!!! I hate what honda chose for the wheels. They not only look underisized, but they're kinda boring. What all in acessories did ya order?
princess 03-27-2006, 06:08 PM We got 3 Honda hats for the boys....one in blue, red & yellow.....2 plate frames, a Honda mug & 2 key rings (ridgeline ones, of course).
I NEED to go out & drive the thing, I still haven't!!!
Thanks, psy!! I really thik this will blend into our family nicely. We're only weekend "truckers".... so it's mosly his commute vehicle. I REALLY like that trunk in the back!! I'll share more about it tomorrow!!
Ben, maybe we'll get some more 8's next time..... :dunno: Isn't that what was good about the Pilot's plates?
princess 03-27-2006, 06:14 PM Accessories:
DVD system (iVes)
rear view camera (just one for now. he may want another for behind the boat...)
foglights
carpeted floor mats. he likes the rubber ones it came with, I don't.
under seat cargo tray
in bed trunk dividers
towing package
roof rack
bruch guard for front bumper
front grille (we like the other one better)
running boards
body side protectors (color matched)
hood deflector
it came with mud flaps, door & wheel edge gaurds, & wheel locks. (he doesn't like wheel locks. The edge guards aren't quite the right blue. We may remove them & put black ones on)
Spades 03-27-2006, 06:22 PM Your Pilot was in great shape! I bet it was a sad drive to the dealer. I really like that picture of your new Ridgeline with all of the accessories already loaded -- I found that amusing for some reason.
Congrats!
BenjiBoy650 03-27-2006, 06:24 PM Ben, maybe we'll get some more 8's next time..... :dunno: Isn't that what was good about the Pilot's plates?
Yuppp
You guys must have spent a fortune on accessories.
Accord4Life 03-27-2006, 06:27 PM Hopefully they got it financed with the Ridgeline.
andysinnh 03-27-2006, 06:29 PM Nice color! Congrats.
The place where I noticed my paint was on a cloudy day outside. If you can go up high (like a second story, or on a porch, or even a ladder) look down on the up-facing surfaces. If you notice light/dark gradual blotchiness, then you have what mine has. If not, then you're all set. Real tough to see just looking close at it (especially if it's got water on it).
Regardless, I'm sure you'll love it.

You sure that's not just uneven wax?
katin 03-27-2006, 07:01 PM You joining the ROC now Princess? We sure could use your expertise with all the inside info!
princess 03-27-2006, 08:27 PM We didn't finance the Ridgeline. After trading in the Pilot it was only 13K with taxes & fees. :D
We didn't finance the stuff either... he gets things for our own vehicles at cost plus 10%....I made sure they remembered that!! I was a snot about it too! (it's cost plus 25% for other people's we buy for) But yeah, it was a small fortune. He wanted it though & I'm not going to argue about it since he's the one that brings home the "bacon"!! :lmao: Of course, it may mean I'll be making a trip or two to the mall!!
ALL metal flake is a little "blotchy" from above & it shows on the lighter ones. It's just how the flakes work. We painted 3 cars before, one was metal flake....NEVER AGAIN!!! It's impossible to not have ANY uneveness. Most of the time it's not visable though. I haven't stood on the house to see it yet though. :dunno: I plan to check it out better tomorrow.
Driving it was fun!! It has the same difference from the Pilot as going from the '02 V6 to the '03 V6. I did behave though since it only had 44 miles on it when we picked it up!! They trucked it up from Fresno! I was so afraid they'd driven it! I want to be in control of the break-in!
I'll post the all apart pictures as they come.... the squeamish probably shouldn't look!! :lmao: It's going to be hard for me to see the headliner out, the dorrs part, the holes in the brand new bumper..... :paranoid: First will be the running boards.... they'll help with road rash on the sides.
I joined the Ridgeline Owners Club forum. I kept my name. They seem friendly over there, but I can't post bulletins since they limit the size too much.
Right now he's reading the manual.
Nifty things we discovered:
There's a switch in the glovebox that will also lock the bed trunk & doesn't work with the valet key.
You can program the door locks to unlock & lock depending on speed, park or the key moved.
The lumbar adjustment in the driver's seat is power! But like the Pilot the passenger seat has NO power.
The rear sliding window is power.
All the windows will go UP with the key in the lock, but like the Accord, not from the buttons on the remote. It's a safety thing. It's so you don't accidently roll them up when you can't see a kid sticking out (another stupid proof)
The wipers are heated below freezing.
The outside temp. gauge is adjustable to 5 degrees either way. I guess they got tired of the complaints!!
Those are things we've found out so far that we had no idea of when we signed the papers. Learning it is fun. The Nav is different than mine.
Oh yeah, the brakes learn your habits. If you're a light braker it will apply more force in an emergency thinking you may not have the strength or something.... :dunno:
jermy4 03-28-2006, 05:42 AM Nice truck!!!
stevencrosbie 03-28-2006, 07:09 AM I love your new truck. I think Blue is the best color
We want some interior shots.
More Pics!
SSMV6 03-28-2006, 07:19 AM Nice, princess! That's a great color, too!
princess 03-28-2006, 07:52 AM Thank you thank you thank!!! :D
I'll add interior shots in a while. It's raining now....AGAIN!! And he's outside now so my birthday project can be worked on.....

I could definitely imagine that center console rattling like crazy :lmao:

Spades 03-28-2006, 09:48 AM Hey, Princess -- if you don't mind me asking, what made you (or him) want to ditch that very nice Pilot you had for the Ridgeline?
Sorry if you had already explained this earlier in the thread -- I just don't have the time to read 191 posts :D
princess 03-28-2006, 10:07 AM Getting the Ridgeline was HIS idea.... the Nav is closer to what the Accord has, which he likes better... a few more bells & whistles, a pinch more HP, a little bit more utility in the back (can haul taller stuff)
The only thing we gave up was the butt spaces. Well, & the fact it doesn't match the boat..... :dunno:
I'm impressed so far with how quiet it is.... time will tell, of course. So far it feels & sounds like a car, not a truck. The remote in the center won't be there...it's now programmed for our garage & alarm. There's all sorts of places to put things.... BUT I think there's only 4 cupholders. Just the door ones in the back. I may have missed some. I'm still exploring. :)
The knobby tires on the Pilot were NOISY!!!! This one has quieter tires!! I can't believe they're mud & snow tires! I'll report as I learn more.... both good & bad.
katin 03-28-2006, 03:05 PM I could never imagine getting used to the dash design or the flat seats.
I could definitely imagine that center console rattling like crazy :lmao:
ROC on Princess!! Aparently BenjiBoy can afford anything newer than a 99 Accord.
BenjiBoy650 03-28-2006, 03:18 PM ROC on Princess!! Aparently BenjiBoy can afford anything newer than a 99 Accord.
Ok....? :dunno:
Spades 03-28-2006, 04:07 PM I wish I had flat seats. I think it would be better for the leather in the long run.
princess 03-28-2006, 04:56 PM I think the dash is BUTT UGLY!!!!! :lmao: He's gonna be teased for quite a while on that one!!
The front seats are comfy enough...we haven't done a road trip yet. The plan is to take it to DL the first week of May. So I'll be able to tell you then. Each one of the 4 Hondas since '01 have been so different in how they feel on the backside. I've liked the passenger seat of the the '02 the best & it's a toss up on the driver's seat.
That ugly dash is part of why I just couldn't get a red one....the browns of the interior just needs the metal & gray to at least let it pretend to be more ulitity looking.
I haven't bought a vehicle for it's looks since the '86! :D That will always be my favorite of the Honda bodies.
Let's see words to NOT describe the Ridgeline: pretty, refined, sleek..... but it's a truck, so that's OK with me. I think it gives it a masculine look. :dunno:
The flatness of the front, hood & dash remind me of the old trucks my daddy had. This one is quiet though. Even if it does remind me a bit of an international scout!!! :lmao:
CA05LXDriver 03-28-2006, 08:22 PM Test drove the ridgeline today... love it! I think you actually get more bang for the buck with the ridgeline than the pilot.
andysinnh 03-29-2006, 05:31 AM Test drove the ridgeline today... love it! I think you actually get more bang for the buck with the ridgeline than the pilot.
I agree - I drove both before I got our second Pilot and really liked the RL. But the need to have an enclosed space to haul my son's upright bass swayed the jury in the direction of the Pilot. Oh, well - 3000 miles later and I can say I like the '06 Pilot much better than either my '05 Accord or my wife's '04 Pilot. In short, it's a hot rod. Could be damaging to my wallet if I don't watch myself.. :paranoid:
andy
princess 03-29-2006, 06:46 AM The Pilot is much more versitile.... It's hard to imagine life without it!
princess 03-29-2006, 08:28 AM I just got a text from my prince saying "I love my truck!"
I think he's happy!!
BenjiBoy650 03-29-2006, 08:37 AM I just got a text from my prince saying "I love my truck!"
I'm still not really sure how to use text messaging...you guys are light years ahead of me  :lmao:
SSMV6 03-29-2006, 08:50 AM I'm still not really sure how to use text messaging...you guys are light years ahead of me  :lmao:
Me neither! :lmao: My cell phone could do internet, SMS, and AIM, etc, but I only use it like a regular household phone. :lmao:
princess 03-29-2006, 08:51 AM To text on the cellphone, you just to go text & write & send.... We can take & send pictures too!! :D
Ben, does your phone have text?
BenjiBoy650 03-29-2006, 08:53 AM Yeah my Razr has text...somewhere hidden that I don't know about...
I know how to receive messages :lmao: I ask my friends for help when I send them and then they laugh at me
andysinnh 03-29-2006, 09:09 AM Yeah my Razr has text...somewhere hidden that I don't know about...
I know how to receive messages :lmao: I ask my friends for help when I send them and then they laugh at me
Ben - of all people, I'd figure YOU would know how to TXT. Isn't much different than AIM - except you have to know how to type words in thru the phone keypad. :lmao: I learned from watching my 2 older sons do it - they can type faster on the phone than I can on my keyboard!
andy
PS - how do you like your Razr? We're ready to upgrade phones and the wife is interested in getting one. Is it pretty durable, etc?
stiller fan 03-29-2006, 10:19 AM ^^^ yeah, what he said..... :dunno: :screwy:
i am shocked to know that you don't know how to txt people..... :lmao:
ItsaHonda 03-29-2006, 01:16 PM My cell phone could do internet, SMS, and AIM, etc, but I only use it like a regular household phone.>>>
Ditto. In fact, I've even got a dinosaur of a cell phone that was free when I signed up for my service several years ago. I believe it can send text messages, but I'm not sure about anything else. It sends and receives calls just fine, and if I drop it and it breaks into a million pieces... it's no big deal.
princess 03-29-2006, 01:17 PM It just took me about a half hour to remove the Pilot & add the Ridgeline to our insurance!! It kept taking me in circles!! I'll find out in a day or two what price difference there is. If I'd done it by phone I could've known instantly.
I like it better online.....no people to try & talk me into stuff!! I did add a bit more for extra equiptment since it'll have the iVes.
I pooh, I just remembered I need to renew my driver's license this year!! I do need a new picture, it's 15 years old or so. I probably won't have to take the test though.
princess 03-29-2006, 01:38 PM a toy of his toy.....it's even in blue!!
princess 03-29-2006, 01:38 PM the clock of his toy......hey, we don't do stuff half way!!!! :lmao:
CA05LXDriver 03-29-2006, 03:52 PM Kidding about the hats, model, and wall clock, right?
Otherwise :naughty:
BenjiBoy650 03-29-2006, 04:01 PM My phone is used just as a phone. I use it as a camera too sometimes but it's such a super wide angle lens...it's ridiculous :lmao: I wouldn't have gotten the Razr if it wasn't such a good deal...V551 (the blue/silver one) was free and the Razr (in June 05) was $28.71 + free car charger. Otherwise I liked the V600 but nobody was offering it since it was probably 3-4 years old already.
princess 03-29-2006, 04:34 PM kidding??? :dunno: The toy is a hotwheels size radio control car. The hats & mug are Honda, not Ridgeline....only because they didn't have any. The keyrings & plate frame are Ridgeline.
The clock was bought on ebay & arrived yesterday. It's going to be above his stall at work.
Inspector1 03-29-2006, 04:58 PM Wow that RL looks really nice P
I'm quite sure Prince is proud as can be with his new ride
I1
CA05LXDriver 03-30-2006, 07:36 AM kidding??? :dunno: The toy is a hotwheels size radio control car. The hats & mug are Honda, not Ridgeline....only because they didn't have any. The keyrings & plate frame are Ridgeline.
The clock was bought on ebay & arrived yesterday. It's going to be above his stall at work.
Hehehehehe just razzing ya'.
princess 03-30-2006, 08:40 AM He picked up most of the rest of the accessories yesterday... the only thing we're waiting on is the hitch now!! It's comin' from Ohio! Hey I1, wanna bring it over??? :lmao:
His clock went to work with him today! He hadn't put a battery in it, so I did. It's keeping the right time, so far. We have an Eeyore one that gets out of whack sometimes. :dunno: The Mickey one in the boys room is fine.
I think the reason the hitch is coming from Ohio is thast they had to update them. The wires had 7 connectors & 6 wires.... no reverse light or something. So they added the 7th one. I think our trailer only needs 6 though. It has brakes, which he disconnects by putting in a pin when backing uphill. It keeps trying to stop. :dunno:
He's a very happy camper....all the guys at work had to drool on it yesterday!! :D His boss loves it & is now thinking about getting his own.
princess 03-31-2006, 11:33 AM All the speakers arrived today. He ordered them from cardomain. 4 Kappa series & an enclosed bass. I wonder when they'll be put in??? :dunno:
jermy4 03-31-2006, 12:09 PM All the speakers arrived today. He ordered them from cardomain. 4 Kappa series & an enclosed bass. I wonder when they'll be put in??? :dunno:
I see that you like Infinity Kappas ... do you usually amp them or run them off the stock stereo? I really thought you needed an amp to do them any justice :dunno:
princess 03-31-2006, 12:34 PM We've used the stock head unit (because the Nav) & no amp..... they've sounded nice. I wasn't as impressed with the reference series we had in the Pilot. Maybe the NEEDED to be boosted. I'm hoping we absolutely LOVE them in the Ridgeline!!
CA05LXDriver 04-05-2006, 01:52 PM Hey, so sorry to bring back memories :D , but how easy was the pilot for converting to work usage (i.e. hauling 4x8 drywall, plywood, or other stuff). Did the seats break down like a minivan, or is the pilot less apt than a mini-van in that regard?
princess 04-05-2006, 02:39 PM With the headrests off in the 3rd row... we never even used them (they were still in the plastic when we traded it in!) the back simply folds down flat. The 2nd row folds down the same way, but not quite flat. Both rows are 40/60 split, which is why we didn't buy an MDX...on those one row is 40/60 & the other is 50/50. Silly to me!
So if you normally just use the 2nd row, to haul plywood or sheetrock means open the back doors, put the seatback down, go to the rear & load. 10 seconds. (He could do it from the back with a long reach, but I'm too short)The seats aren't the removable kind. We always kept a "neat sheet" in the far back cubby for protecting the leather on the 2nd row seat tops. Worked out wonderful!! We also kept a container of bungy cords of various sizes in there for securing stuff on top. We almost never even used the 3rd row. Which is why buying a Ridgeline made sense to him. We used the cargo tray. It's rubber stuff with a lip alll the way around for spills!! If it got too yucky to just vacuum, I'd take it out & hose it off.
You would've loved the Pilot we had. It was set up wonderfully!!
I haven't really got to know the Ridgeline yet. :dunno: I will though. We stillplan to take it to DL the first part of May.
BenjiBoy650 04-05-2006, 08:39 PM Princess, the MDX is 50/50 in the rear because it's a 2 passenger seat (7 pass total capacity). The Pilot is 60/40 because it's a 3 passenger seat (8 pass total capacity). It's different!
stevencrosbie 04-05-2006, 08:52 PM Princess, the MDX is 50/50 in the rear because it's a 2 passenger seat (7 pass total capacity). The Pilot is 60/40 because it's a 3 passenger seat (8 pass total capacity). It's different!
Its also about 10k different in price..... :paranoid: :paranoid:
BenjiBoy650 04-05-2006, 09:03 PM Well I can't account for that, I just know why the seats are different
princess 04-06-2006, 08:04 AM We only NEEDED a 7 passenger, & if they'd had both 50/50 or both 60/40, I probably would've gone with one then. I thought the Pilot had a more sturdy look to it, but I did like the bells & whistels the MDX offered. The back seats were the final deciding factor.
When we have a kid with us on a Home Depot run, it's nice to have just that 40 side! :D Then you have quite a bit of space & it's not interupted by a seat abck offside.
It was a big enough factor for us to give up bells & whistles!! :paranoid:
stevencrosbie 04-06-2006, 12:20 PM Now, look at all of the money you saved by buying the Honda instead of the Acura...
Save the Acura purchase for that new TL or RL in the future :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
princess 04-06-2006, 01:51 PM RL....more bells & whistles!!
andysinnh 04-06-2006, 04:48 PM RL....more bells & whistles!!
Gee - I can see your prince with a Honda RL and you with an acura RL - both with AWD. Sounds like a great fit!
andy
princess 04-06-2006, 06:41 PM  My turns next....but I'm still not ready.... maybe when the Accord feels old to me..... :dunno:
We're on schedule for him to start on all those accessories on Sunday!! So I'll just park my car in his spot & when he comes home from work Sat. he can put his in the garage. So whenever he's ready....there it is!!
AkkoRdRaceR 04-06-2006, 08:56 PM New Pilot owner!!! The Accord was sent in early of lease and this week we welcomed home a Steel Blue 06 Pilot EX. Truck is great and drives smoother then I ever thought a truck could drive, and its pretty quick. Too bad the Pilot will be my dad's daily driver while I am stuck with a Subaru OUtback for a year. O well, gives me time to save for an EVO!!!
andysinnh 04-07-2006, 07:17 AM So I came upon a new Steel Blue RL this morning, and I'll be darned if the tailgate had the same blotchy look that my hood has. go figure - guess Honda is having some issues with this paint color now. At least on mine, you can't really see it since it's facing upwards.....
andy
princess 04-07-2006, 09:15 AM Congratualtions on your family's new Pilot, AkkoRdRaceR! They really are nice!! Great color choice!! The red one was so pretty when clean, but such a pain to keep that way!!
Andy, I don't recall EVER seeing a metal flake pearl with some silver in it that had absolutely no blotchy going on. I think it's part of the pearl effect. You look at it one way & it makes lights & shadows. That's what I like about the pearl colors is that they have that effect. Its what makes them different than "just" metal flake.
Some colors do it better than others... I'm sure you've seen cars on the road that's edges look darker than the rest.... kinda candied, but candied is actually layered. The pearl whites often have a gold or even purple tint on the edges. Sometimes they can look like a completely diferent color...like some of the saturn paint. One looks green & plum, another gold & purple.
My Accord's dark blue takes on different colors in the different lighting. In the sunshine it's more of a royal blue, in the shade a deep, almost black/midnight blue, under florescent lights a pinch of purple will show up.
The satin silver 02 would look amathyst under the garage lights. It did have some blotchy cloudy parts on the car. It gave it character!! :D It could look like a cloudy sky....so if it flew no one could see it..... :lmao:
princess 04-08-2006, 07:41 AM He decided to have "blue flu".... :lmao: called in sick to start on the Ridgeline!!
He's out in the garage tearing it apart..... I'll post pictures later. Today he's starting with the iVes, & camera (he's adding a bed camera too, to watch the load when hauling stuff. I think that means it'll have 5 total since he already talked about one for behind the boat trailer.) Both require lots of the same stuff removed.
He found a flaw in the instructions already! :thumbsdow That's not good!

White looks white all of the time unless its dirty (which is all of the time :lmao: )
princess 04-08-2006, 09:01 AM WAY back when we used to buy OLD Hondas & restore them & sell them.... I'd always prefer non metal flake paint. You an reshine white, yellow & red up really nicely!!
The pictures I take of the "guts" of this truck will be when it's dirty..... the outside is a mess now!! :paranoid:
princess 04-08-2006, 09:19 AM Hang on to your hats & glasses guys.....it has begun!!! :paranoid:
princess 04-08-2006, 09:20 AM The first hole!!
princess 04-08-2006, 09:21 AM Now it has NO Nav!!
stiller fan 04-08-2006, 09:30 AM it's brand new..... :bawling: :boohoo:
but i guess it's worth it.....
princess 04-08-2006, 10:04 AM We have th e DVD player in!!!!
princess 04-08-2006, 10:05 AM and it works!!!
stiller fan 04-08-2006, 10:18 AM that looks alot better than a hole in the fabric.... :D
princess 04-08-2006, 10:23 AM Of course, he can't just be happy it works.... now he's trying to make sure he can ADD more screens!!
While everything was out I got smart! I wrote down all the serial numbers in the owner's manual!! I know, I know...you can pull them up on the screen for the audio system.....but what if THAT'S what gone out!?? :dunno:
The stock speakers don't sound too bad if you're in the backseat...but that's not where I ride! So speakers WILL be replaced. They're in one of the bizillion boxes we've collected for this project!! :D
I think next is cameras..... :dunno: That means a hole in the tailgate!! :paranoid:
princess 04-08-2006, 10:34 AM uh-oh.....he's got out one of the oscilliscopes!!! :paranoid:
Pilot4Life 04-08-2006, 04:24 PM We have th e DVD player in!!!!
Just thought I'd throw a picture of our Pilot's iVes out there for comparison.

princess 04-08-2006, 04:32 PM The Ridgeline's player isn't in the top....it's in the center console. Just the monitor is on top. :dunno:
